Melia Caribe is a beautiful property. The interior design of the lobby, restaurants, bars and buffet gives you luxurious vibes. The rooms are nice and spacious. They have a large kids water area that my toddler enjoyed. Beach was terrible with loads of red seaweed. We didn’t not see the crystal clear turquoise waters. Compliments to housekeeping with always going above and beyond to tidy our room and for our concierge, Anny Liriano for her hospitality. Overall I don’t recommend this resort for 3 reasons: 1) locals came on the weekend and it appears resort overbooks as food and towels were out 2) check in was a nightmare in which we were charged extra for our toddler but the hotel couldn’t prove that the hotel system showed she was booked as an infant rather than a 3 yo. We were able to get refunded by Orbitz, but it’s clear they try to rip you off. 3) Good quality and variety was mediocre. First and last time in Dominican Republic.

The resort is a small resort on the section of the 7 mile beach. It is still going through renovations, which according to the owner should be done by the end of the year. The rooms were nice, unique, roomy and clean. Because of the renovations, it's not as pretty as it will hopefully be by the time it's completed. The staff was amazing and friendly. The one thing about the trip I did not like was how the owner treated her staff. I don't know why she treated them as if they were not worthy of respect. They all were very hospitable to guests and customers who were not staying at the hotel. I was very disappointed to see this. The owner seemed to bend over backwards and gave preferential treatment to those she knew personally and guests she related with. Other than the interactions with the owner and staff and the owner's tasteless actions, it was a nice resort. I personally would not return because of the owner. The area around the resort can be overwhelming with individuals constantly trying to offer substances or get you to buy their products or go on excursions with them. If going off the resort (not the beach side) be sure to use transportation provided or coordinated through the hotel. The beach area itself is very beautiful and you have multiple resorts along the beach to eat at. Lilly's was our favorite. Great food and service. It's only a half mile down from the resort. You got great food and great portions for reasonable prices.

I think overall the property was nice. The pools were amazing and so was the private beach section. However we didn’t have a working tv at all the entire stay. I informed guest services on day one and they sent a maintenance guy to check it out. he said that it was a service provider issue and they will call them and get everything fixed. however, on the second day, still nothing, I brought it back up to guest services.They didn’t seem to care at all. Plus the air conditioner stopped working in the middle of the night unbeknownst to me. So when I got up to wash my face I almost bust my butt cause the floor was soaked from condensation. I told guest services about this as well. Nothing was done. No apology or anything. The food was highly disappointing. I’m in Jamaica. Expect to have Jamaican delicacies. Same bland nasty food daily at the buffet. You guys advertise that it’s unlimited snacks all day long but there’s not even a single vending machine in the area for us to purchase anything. So you basically starve the rest of the day once that buffet is closed. I didn’t think it would be fancy because of the price point but I did expect descent food. The flies all over the food area was out of control.
