The hotel environment is clean and tidy; chaotic when the music is blasting in the pool area for entertainment time, the whole hotel premises is very loud including when you are inside your room trying to rest. The food is good. We liked the specialty Italian. Buffet area has limited choices but enough to fill for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Beach is small, there is only a small portion to swim because it's next to the docking/loading area of the ferry to Xcaret excursion. The pool is one huge big thing in the middle of the hotel. Not bad for an affordable vacation as long as you don't expect luxury.

Pros: We stayed in one of the beachfront bungalows and had our own private beach access, lounge chairs, even hammocks. THUMP THUMP THUMP My spouse is AFAB non-binary, post-chest surgery and was able to lie in the sun without a top -- something hard to do in a lot of beach spaces. The room looked nice and the bed was comfortable; toilet was separate from sinks and shower, which always helps with 2 people. THUMP THUMP THUMP
Cons: The hotel next door plays really loud music from mid-afternoon until midnight or 2am, depending on the night. It's not Maya's fault, but the sound carries over the beach. We chose to go to Tulum because we heard it was quieter than Cancun, but this is unfortunately in the party district. THUMP THUMP THUMP I was able to tune out the music with ear plugs, but this meant that there was no falling asleep to the sound of the waves. My spouse had a harder time with it and had to take sleep aids because the THUMP THUMP THUMP was driving them insane.
The lighting in the room is very ambient and relaxing at night, but there is almost no light by the bathroom mirror. THUMP THUMP THUMP If you want to put on makeup or shave, leave the room and find one of the random mirrors gracing the grounds around the hotel. At night, forget it. The restaurant turned us away at 5pm when they close at 6, told us to come back at 8. When we got food at 9 it was cold and underwhelming.
If the THUMP THUMP THUMP in this review drives you nuts, look for a different hotel.

My husband and I had a great time! So much to love about this place: the lovely treehouse-style accommodations nestled amongst the beautiful foliage, the illusive hummingbirds and tree frogs, the delicious buffet and The Chef's Table dining experience, 7-Mile Beach, the design motif throughout the resort, and the professional and friendly staff. Staff was a amazing during my stay. Hurricane Melissa hit and the staff didnt miss a beat. They kept us fed and entertained in such a tragedy for the country. I have nothing but praises for the Riu Palace AQUARELLE in Jamaica what an amazing job they did for the people during the Hurricane and aftermath, enough cant be said I applaud them and recommend this Riu AQUARELLE once everything is back up amd running

Clean room, location, staff and amenities were great. Food is delicious. I enjoy how quiet the hotel is during the week. Weekends can be busy and noisy with the pool party and drag brunch, but I just walk into town to get away during those times.

Amazing Staff , amazing property . Super clean , and stylish . Staff was really welcoming and accommodating . Best experience . It’s off the Main Street so you don’t get the city noise but it’s a 3 min walk to get right back to it .
