Do I need car rental insurance?
Yes. Before you go ahead and book a rental car, you will need to check with your personal car insurance provider and/or credit card provider what sort of coverage you may already have. It may be the case that you’re already covered, meaning you won’t need to purchase additional coverage when you rent a car.
However, it is recommended that you add collision protection to your booking, regardless if you are already covered. Not only does this provide cover for accidents, theft, and vandalism, it also provides primary coverage. This means that you will not need to claim through your personal car insurance provider if something should happen to the car during your rental.
How old do I need to be to rent a car?
The minimum age you can rent a car in most US states is 21. However, if you are under the age of 25, this can mean paying above average prices – this is usually referred to as a young driver’s fee or young person’s surcharge. It’s worth noting that people over the age of 70 may also be subject to a surcharge. Check with your car rental company, as particulars can vary.
