Is fantastic and the grounds and amenities are pretty good. The staff is friendly and works really really hard. The events and activities for ferret best. The food was mediocre and the fancy restaurants were hard to get into. The regular and reservation restaurants are also very best. The biggest disappointment was that my entire family had food poisoning has did everyone we met. We all violently threw up and missed very expensive excursions that we had paid for. They also had Extremely Loud Music going into the early morning which made it very difficult to sleep especially when sick. Overall this is a really nice place and they try hard however they need to fix their food issue and they need to turn down the music which is really quite annoying. The people that we meant we're great and the beach is quite nice too. We did see a lot of people with bug bites however we were okay and didn't get any. My entire family did get severe rash all over the entire body from the food poisoning which still has not gone away now that we are home. Apparently this is quite common. Also as others have mentioned, do not book it excursions inside the hotel or get cash as they devalue the dollar when they apply their own exchange rate.

Nice hotel but it didn't meet all my expectations. It's smaller and the buffet isn't the best, 101 ways to cook telopia if you are looking for seafood. Pools are good, beach not so much. It's small and not comfortable to lay on due to the sloop. Evening entertainment is better than other all inclusive we've stayed at. Massage place recommended by Suzy on the beach is the best.

This was my first trip to an all inclusive and it exceeded my expectations. The pools were warm, the staff was extremely friendly and super accommodating and hard-working. The room was nice, nothing too fancy but not terrible. Just right. The buffet had so much great food and was replenished often! Try the French toast! Its the best French toast ever! Right on the beach in a small bay to ourselves. I would go back in a heartbeat!

First timer for all inclusive resorts and this one was perfect. Buffet had a variety to choose from, the "snack" bar was delicious and basically a fourth meal, and the restaurants were great, too. The staff was excellent and went over and beyond to make sure you had everything you needed at all times. The pools were huge with and the swim up bar was awesome! Rooms were beautiful and complete with an amazing view no matter where your room was! While there we walked to the zoo and also went on an excursion booked through the hotel. $20 60 min massages on the beach HIGHLY recommended! Overall great stay, would go back.

We were scheduled to stay five nights in an oceanfront suite premium level. The suite was not available the front desk told us they would move us the following morning at 9 AM we never heard from them. we had dinner at one restaurant that was absolutely terrible. We checked out after one night and had to find a new hotel.

The hotel is located in a great location with natural landscape that is constantly maintained and looks beautiful. The staff from top to bottom are all accommodating with great attitude.

Doesn't 5 nights and loved it! The only downside was the food wasn't anything to write home about.

Some of the lady's at the check-in/check-out desk need an attitude adjustment. My wife and I both felt some kind of biased treatment for a certain ethnicity in comparison to others. For example, on several occasions I would walk up to an empty bar and be totally ignored for like 30 seconds but when someone of similar Hispanic heritage joins the bar, the bartenders drop everything to serve them first (like I was wearing some kind of invisibility cloak - which is hard to do with a 6'3 240lb black guy with a huge beard). On another occasion we were seated at the buffet and no waiter came to our table to take our drink order. We ate our entire meal while every waiter just walked right by our table (as if we were invisible, again). The dinner reservation girl for the a la carte restaurants was also very unaccommodating. For example, we went around 10am to book dinner reservations. All of their restaurants were booked and all reservations are set in stone and she had no availability anywhere. She didn't even try to help our situation. We ended up going to one of the restaurants around 9pm and there were empty tables everywhere! We pointed out the empty tables and they realized they couldn't bulls**** us and gave us a table. (Scam Alert: Every 2 nights earns you one meal at their a la carte restaurants. So make sure you don't book here! Go to a real all inclusive like Dreams in Punta Cana or Iberostar in Puerto Plata or Lux in Mauritius.) Also, the food is terrible!!!!

Many years ago, I viewed this hotel as a must-visit destination. Unfortunately, I think its past its prime. Upon check-in, there is no true organization. You have people checking in while current guests swarm the front desk. Then, other employees cut through the line to ask front desk employees questions. In addition, the front desk employee was also manning the phones while checking us in which caused several interruptions. This probably caused him to forget placing our room keys and towel cards into the envelope ---causing us two unnecessary trips back to said desk. Such an inconvenience. To make matters worse, we were overcharged for additional guests despite being quoted a different price. The room, while clean was dated. Housekeeping and employees tending the pool were great except that they ran out of umbrellas. IF you want to stay in a place where: 80% of the seats are saved with towels hours in advance, this is the place for you. If you want a pool area that smells like smoke and grease from the adjacent grill, be my guest. If you want to be surrounded by rude clientele who treat buffets like it's their last meal on earth, please stay here. If you want to be surrounded by: boogie boards, floaties, and inner tubes at the pool, Barcelo is for you. Why 3 stars you ask? The employees really do work hard to make your stay enjoyable. Although it's not mandatory, I recommend all visitors to tip them something. From the bell hop to the housekeepers, muchas gracias!

This hotel is located about 40 minutes south of the airport and about 20 minutes south of the boardwalk and downtown. The view from the hotel is awesome, on one side you have a dense, lush jungle and on the other the ocean. The hotel staff was very friendly. The food was good. I only ate at the buffet, snack bar and club lounge. The buffet and snack bar both face the ocean. They also have other resturants but you need to make reservations and they have a dress code; not my thing while on vacation. The rooms are kept very clean and completely quiet. Not one time did i hear my neighbors unless i was on the balcony. The televisions have HBO and Cinemax which is nice. The pool was very nice. I believe they have three pools and a pool for kids. The main pool has a water fall. Another has a volleyball court. Overall i enjoyed this hotel and would consider it in other locations. Some conplaints woukd be the size of the beach. It is oretty small but mostly because of the location. Then in the mornings around 7 am they have a guy who goes around spraying some type of insectide. Then the mosquitos, make sure to take some bug spray because there are tons of insects but you sre in the jungle.

I went on a sister trip and we chose the Barcelo and we chose the all inclusive package (Not premium). At first we were apprehensive, because the resort is further south of downtown PV (it's in Mismaloya), but that quickly subsided. From the time we arrived at the airport to the time we were dropped off at the airport the service the Barcelo staff provided was some of the best I Have ever received traveling. Prior to arrival, I contacted their service desk(ask for Adelina. She was THE BEST!) that handles transportation and excursions. We communicated via email and Adelina had our airport transportation set up for round trip in addition to booking our excursions directly through the hotel (they use Vallarta Adventures. also highly recommend). Check in was very smooth, the room was very clean and had great ammenties. The Bars were open all day and they took care of you very well. A few different pools (And a kiddie pool), one with a swim up bar- the bartenders were always having fun and making sure you were well taken car of. The food was fresh and DELICIOUS. Authentic mexican food (fresh made tortillas) and a WIDE variety of options. Every night at the buffet (open to everyone) was a different theme, so it never felt too monotonous. Staff always came to check on you for drink orders, which was an unexpected delight when you imagine a buffet. We were able to eat at two of the restaurants (included with our inclusive package) and they were good too. Overall- highly recommend

We stayed over the Christmas holiday. We had club premium which was worth it for the room, room service & dinner reservations. The club premium check in is a joke, one person to check in & out, the only top shelf liquor is in the lounge which you have to make yourself. I reserved dinners with dates & times over email before we arrived & picked up our reservation tickets when we got there. This is the best advice, otherwise you get stuck eating the over crowded buffet. I can say we only encountered a small number of great staff that stood out, the rest seemed annoyed by us. The beach was great, yes bring bug spray & anti-itch meds! The pools were really fun too! We have a family of 5 so our 2 bedroom suite on the 8th floor, right above the beach was amazing! It was nice for us all to have privacy & quiet sleep. If your looking for affordable, this is a good choice, we had a great stay & if you can deal with the little hiccups, you will enjoy this hotel. And one big shout out, they do Christmas up! Made a spectacular Christmas eve celebration & Santa arrived by boat with nicely wrapped large toys for all the kids! Kuddos on that!

The room was nice, nothing too fancy but not terrible. Just right. The buffet had so much great food and was replenished often! Try the French toast! Its the best French toast ever!
