I have spent 8 days at the Hotel Tropicana here in Puerto Vallarta now, and I will definitely be back.
I am a hotel/resort consultant, and I work with new hotels to set up accommodation systems, booking platforms, online presence, etc. I was not working on this trip. I was simply a guest. Being in the business, I, of course, find myself critiquing hotels and resorts wherever I stay at them, and I stay at plenty, worldwide.
The Hotel Tropicana is not perfect - far from it, but that is its CHARM. When you enter the world they have created here, you step back to a piece of Mexicana frozen in time. There is no cappuccino maker in the restaurant. I am proudly wearing a wristband so the hotel knows I am part of their family this week. The lobby has birds living in the rafters that a dedicated housekeeper cleans up after every day. When you ask the men at the entrance parking lot to call you a cab, they don’t pick up a phone - they walk out on the street and whistle very loudly.
The great things:
The rooms are clean and simple. The housekeepers will happily get you anything you need, and will leave you alone, or clean your room daily. That’s up to you. I flashed cash and left LARGE bills lying around on the table during my stay in the room and not a single penny was stolen. The housekeepers here are honest and very hardworking, from my experience.
The restaurant food is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Sean and his crew took great care of me.
