We'd stay there again but the beds we had were not good.
Loved this hotel. The staff was very friendly, courteous and helpful. The food was good as well. I do wish there was some live music for entertainment however, since its right off the Malecon, plenty can be heard all around. I would most definitely stay here again!
Simply would like a refund didn't even stay the last night..
Just spent a week there and could not have expected more from the location, staff or cleanliness. Sitting on our balcony, eating supper or an after dinner cocktail on the beach while watching the sunset over the ocean was a big plus for us. We were right in the heart of the romantic zone. Close to all amenities from dance clubs to restaurants. Everyone one of the staff were friendly and accommodating. And always cleaning. I did have some concerns about what had been written in the past. Were the beds hard? Yes, but one conversation and foam mattresses were on their way up. Were the rooms old and damp? Yes, they do need an upgrade. Cockroaches? Yes, killed 3 tiny ones in my room....hey, it's Mexico! Pigeons in the restaurant ? Barely as they have a girl who strolls around the eating establishment with a falcon to keep them at bay. The food was okay, but not enough Mexican fare but plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Would I stay there again? In a heartbeat.
San Marino is on the beach with reaustrants and shops all around. Very unique area of Mexico, absolutely some of the friendliest people you will meet. The area is very safe and San Marino staff is on top of anyone coming into San Marino. Shower, bed and a/c work well...have fun!
A nearby favorite was unavailable, so we opted for the San Marino. Having read previous reviews, we were hoping for the best, considering the bargain rate. Knowing the Orbitz request for a medically-needed refrigerator might not be received, the hotel was contacted directly, but was still unavailable until the third day. The room was noticeably in need of scrubbing, especially the bathroom. Cracked fixtures were unsightly. Electric outlets in disrepair. Mattress overly firm.
Let me start by saying that if you find an unbeleivable deal through Orbitz for this hotel, you may be getting what you pay for. The "special deal" roomsthey will assign you to are on the side where the late night bar plays live music untill around 11:00pm. Lots of noise like groups of people talking, mariachi bands or a tuba player, early morning truck backup beeping and such on the side that faces north. The room was small. No dresser, just a few shelves in the closet. Our balcolny door didn't lock and that unnerved us a little bit. We bought twine to wrap it up when we left, even though the maids took it off thinking they helped fix the door lock problem (they didn't). King bed was big and not bad, but some of the pillows felt like they were overstuffed with paper (bumpy and hard). Water pressure is good in the bathroom, but when you sit on the toilet, you face the vanity and mirror and is tight. God help you if you are overweight. The feel of the hotel is OK and being on the beach was nice. They have a sense of security as they make you wear a wrist band during your stay so no one else can get in. But that get's annoying. If you can put up with these inconveniences and don't plan to spend a lot of time in the hotel, you'll be fine. But if yoou get the all inclusive deal and will be there all the time, reconsider. We didn't do All inclusive and are glad we didn't. We heard the food was just OK.
on the beach the best this hotel had to offer stayed here twice before it was ok but this time the food @ the buffets were usually cold bland & pretty much the same everyday they use to have a egg station where you could get eggs anyway you like & bacon not anymore only cold scrambled eggs needless to say we ate out for almost all our meals
If you are looking for a 5 star hotel you will be disappointed. However if you understand that this is a basic, clean, Mexican hotel you will be happy. Location, location, location! At the base of the Los Muertos pier, in the heart of old town. Our base priced room was a bit dated, but had an in-room safe and a flat screen TV. Bedding and linen was very good. Room cleaning was excellent! We were on the north side of the building with a small balcony that faced the pedestrian only street below us. Nice for a little relaxing time before bed. We opted for the all inclusive package which was very reasonably priced. This year when we were there, they did not offer the build your own omelet bar for breakfast, but they had scrambled eggs which were good. Fresh fruit and yogurt as well as pastries were a good side dish for breakfast. We had lunch only a couple of times, as we opted to visit many of the area restaurants we love. Lunch selection of food was very good. We never had the dinner, as we again opted to visit our favorite places from past visits to the area. Again the selection of food seemed adequate. Bar service was very good with attentive staff. We spent most of our time on the deck overlooking the pier below us. Great people watching area!
I always enjoy a stay at San Marino. I took the AI plan since it was only $6 a day per person more than just the room. Always found something to eat and the drinks were plentiful and as strong (or not) as I wanted them. The staff is competent and understands customer service. The rooms are basic, clean and inexpensive for the location. The hotel is located directly on Playa Los Muertos and has plenty of palapas, loungers and umbrellas on the beach. Beach towels are provided by a very nice young man at the beach entrance. There have been some reviewers that said the palapas, etc. were used by locals and that guests were not able to use them. I did not find that to be true. Everyone I spoke with or saw under hotel palapas/umbrellas, etc. was staying at the hotel. They were all nationals who were on vacation. Sometimes in the late afternoon, a vendor or two would sit under a palapa in the back row to rest for a bit. I will stay at San Marino again.
The staff is awesome especially in F&B. Great location but a little updating is sorely needed. No visitor policy sucks. C'mon can't a friend come in and hang out for an hour?
The San Marino is exactly what I look for in a vacation hotel. Clean spacious rooms with amazing views. It is centrally located to LGBT owned and operated businesses. Perfect
We were traveling in a group of 4 (two gay couples). We booked two separate rooms next to each other. We stayed for 8 nights. First I will start with the Pros. This hotel is in the perfect location. It's in old town Puerto Vallarta right on the beach, near the pier and near countless bars, restaurants, and shops. We booked an Ocean-view Jr Suite. We were on the 8th floor (top floor) in room 803 & 802. If you're going to stay here it's worth the upgrade for the Ocean-view Suite. Call before your trip and request the highest floor and rooms together if you are traveling with people. Your balcony looks straight out towards the ocean. The view is amazing. Overall the hotel is well kept and the staff is very friendly. They have two decent size pools and a smaller kid pool. We never used the pools because they were always packed with kids (even the adult only pool). The hotel has a small section of the beach. It seemed that the Grass umbrellas were always taken up very quickly. This wasn't a problem for us because we always walked to Blue Chairs (gay beach) and lounged there. Blue chairs is like 4 hotels down the beach, it is a short walk. Also, if you are looking for a fun time go on Wet & Wild Gay Cruise (you wont regret it). Here are the Con's to staying here. The rooms are loud. The sliding glass doors do not keep sound out of the rooms. I found it a little hard to sleep some nights because people would be down at the pool screaming or music would be playing in the distance. Not all nights were way loud but some were (I'm 26 & we had some late nights). So be aware of the sound. The beds were pretty firm and pillows were ok. We did the all inclusive package. I would highly suggest not doing the all inclusive. Like the other reviews have stated the food is not good. It is a very small selection and it is exactly the same everyday with few variation. They typically serve some kind of chicken, some kind of penne pasta, and some types of potatoes and some kind of beef or pork dish. The food is ok for the first day or two but you will get tired of it if you are staying for a long time. We ended up going out to eat because I was getting so tired of the food. The alcohol that is included is cheap. They use a brand called Oso Vodka (they sell it in the convenience stores for like 79 pesos or about $5.50 usd). So the alcohol is definitely a cheap cheap brand. They have a small selection you can basically choose Beer, Tequila, Vodka, or Rum. None of them are name brand Liquors that we recognized. The beer is Tecate or something like that. The bar is open from Noon - 10pm. Again, we got tired of drinking cheap alcohol so we went and bought alcohol that we like at the convenience store. Overall this hotel has good and bad. When we do our next trip to Puerto Vallarta we will most likely rent a nice condo up on the hill in Old town. Hope this review helped.
Hotel Staff were excellent.Did not have meal package but heard it was not great. Was personally sick (from problems prior to the trip) but my wife and mysellf love PVR. Also , we had a Jr. Suite which was much better than a regular room.
The hotel looks great from the outside grounds and lobby. As we have been in PuertoVallarta before, we had checked out the hotel from the outside and it looks very nice. But when you get into the rooms they are very worn and not taken care of. The cleaning staff and hotel staff is very nice but the rooms need to be REALLY cleaned, not just mopped and wiped down. The drapes are so old and nasty I did not like touching them, the tile in the bathroom floor has black mold in it, the furniture is nicked and chipped. But the worst was the roaches. I have stayed in Puerto Vallarta six times and never had roaches in my room. Very disappointing stay. I don't understand how this hotel didn't have any reviews stating their problems. It was a good value, but you don't get what was anticipated, except for location.
The best thing right on the beach and in the heart of old town PV Staff was excellent, great drinks.
Hotel has a great location in old town PV. Size of room was good, beds and pillows not comfortable at all. Shower had what appeared to be mold in it. I felt it was over priced for room condition.
No extras, for sure, but good location. And good old fashion family fun-time around the swimming pool, etc., and definitely a good price!
I stayed 1 night at San Marino, i had a wonderful time. It´s located at the romantic zone, near the malecon, bars and night clubs. I definitely will return on my next vacation.
Its in an awesome location. A lot of action going around. The sunset and sunrise are priceless. Lots of hot spots around the hotel. nice cofee shops and restaraunts. With that said it is in the tourist part of town so the prices will be a little bit high. Recommendation for breakfast, lunch or dinner near by is TIZOCS. There is a spa in the hotel pretty good prices and services. If you get all inclusive with your hotel price the food and the drinks are decent. BUT the ROOMS.. OMG. Not too clean. way to small. and the mattress are horrible. no towels. no extra blankets. I just didnt have a good night rest :( . But you cant beat the LOCATION. FYI: If you are going to buy ANYTHING in PUERTO VALLARTA do not take the first PRICE. You can negotiate almost anything. KID FRIENDLY have fun. maggie
