good clean rooms, great food, kind helpful attentive staff

Loved the nature part of it and the surrounding area.

Very nice I wish I would of stayed longer!!! Next time!!!!

this place asked for more money than I had already payed!!! this place is a scam. I ended paying 200more pesos. and the windows did not have a lock at all!!!

There are good things about this hotel, but they were negated by a theft from my room. I suspected housekeeping, but the maid denied involvement (of course). Also, service in the restaurant was not good -- one morning we were ignored by wait staff for 30+ minutes while they attended to a party in another area. We wouldn't have waited, but the breakfast was included in my room package price.

I have to admit when we checked in we were a little worried. We had chosen CI for the kitchenette & real beds for each of the 3 of us. Once we settled in everything was just fine. We went to Mexico to explore, walk, read, relax and get a tan in a safe environment--CI delivered. -Think small older boutique hotel, maybe 30 rooms & appear to be renovating them 1 by 1. -The same caring, friendly people worked every day & took care of us like family. -Our room, though not renovated, was spotlessly clean & had great air conditioning, shower pressure & very comfy beds. A little dark, but we weren't in Mexico to sit inside. -The location is quite far away from DT PV so was blessedly quiet except for the birds--it IS in a jungle!20 minutes and 75 cents by bus to town, 1 minute to the bus stop. -The bar/cafe opens early and closes early evening as well. If you need beer/cocktails late stock up at the the hotel's convenience store or town supermarkets--that's why you have a kitchen! -The pool is small, but plenty of room and lounge options for sun lovers. -Note: no room safe, small deposit boxes are available in the office -If you require an elevator or room service or plan to spend your vacation online or on the phone, this is NOT your hotel. Our stay was very relaxing and I would do it again for the price. Say hi to the hotel mascot cats for us!

Great place to visit the zoo (better than expected-go early), botanical gardens, mismaloya area. Loved the 2 room suite with the kids, gave us privacy compared to hotel rooms. walk to beach ( get the $20 massage). restaurant was good, breakfast especially. Pool was too cold to use. Quiet and peaceful probably because hardly any guests that week. Very clean. Got bitten by bugs a bit, bring spray.

I have two complaints. One is out of management's control. The Internet was not working the whole two weeks I was there. It was an antenna issue rather than the service itself. This is a problem throughout the Bay. I stayed at another hotel in another area that had the same problem. The second one is the jacuzzi. Some of the old-timers like myself remember the previous management and how the jacuzzi worked then. It was always hot, always full, always bubbling. When It overflowed due to water displacement due to many people, a gorgeous waterfall fell down the rocks. There was also a policy of no children in the jacuzzi. Current management still has the sign saying no children in the jacuzzi. However, they are allowed. Also, for some reason, management does not want to restore it to its original, gorgeous condition. Seeing this decline, this hotel, while a jungle paradise, has kind of a Motel 6 feeling about it. If you don't use jacuzzis and can work around bad Internet connections, then go for it. I plan to return next year.

A very good hub to explore the area South of PUerto Vallarta

I experienced serious decline of an exquisite jungle oasis. This is due to management. All the staff are the best I have seen anywhere, coping valiantly with a variety of difficult situations, which this program will now allow me to describe here.

I happened to go during the rainiest time, but the hotel was cute and roomy. There weren't a lot of people there at the time, but I was looked after well. There is very good security there and I never worried about anything. It's on a quiet street in Mismaloya that is really nice. The hotel has a little store which is very handy, and a pool and a nice restaurant. [...]in the restaurant is very nice and welcoming. And he makes fabulous Margaritas, and the food is good too.The room had two bedrooms, one queen and one with two doubles, perfect for a family. There was a kitchen and living room and bathroom - just a cute place. It was nice to sit out on the deck on rainy nights and just watch the rain falling. The hotel is close to the Vallarta Zoo, which is interesting, because you can get right up close to the animals, pet the giraffe, and touch a lot of them. They sell food in the store at the beginning so you can feed the animals and birds along the way. El Eden and the Ziplines are right up the hill too. I hear that the ziplines are great - very fast. El Eden was a nice little waterfall that you could slide down or swing on a rope into the pool. There was food and drinks there. It was a nice little place too.The beach is just a quick walk away, and although it's small, you can sit under a palapa and eat or drink there. There are lots of interesting Mexican people working and hanging out there - they're a lot of fun. The guys with boats will take you snorkeling or fishing or to Yelapa or wherever you like. You can always find something to do there. Everyone there is wonderful and a lot of fun. I love the beach vendors there, they are a lot of fun to talk with. If you need to catch a cab, just walk up toward the Barcelo and you can catch a cab or the bus into town. There is an ATM there as well. Mismaloya has some interesting places down the street, such as the Tequileria, a grocery store and places to eat.

It is a quick walk to the beach which is small but very cute and has some nice restaurants and a cool fort to walk up to. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel on the street corner and it takes you right into town in under 20 minutes. It was much less busy than staying in puerto vallarta, it is definitely for a more muted and relaxing trip (not great if you want to party a lot its a 150 peso cab ride from the center of town about) but the center of town is still easily accessible by bus. The staff was very nice and friendly and the rooms were clean and large. The stove didn't work very well but the refrigerator was handy. There is a little store which has everything but produce and cheese. All and all it was a great and relaxing place.

La Casa Iguana sits just off the main highway running south out of Puerta Vallarta, but one would not know it by the relative peace and quiet of the village it is a part of. The staff is very friendly, working hard to keep the grounds clean and guests happy. The rooms in the hotel are fairly soundproof. Outside most rooms is a balcony with a small table and chairs, perfect for morning coffee or late afternoon drinks while overlooking the pool and grounds. The onsite restaurant serves a good meal, and [...], the owner, will be sure to sing a couple of popular Mexican songs in an above-average voice, with mucho gusto! I would encourage you to take a few minutes to walk further up the road into the village or else go across the highway and experience other restaurants situated across the river and accessible by pedestrian bridges. La Casa Iguana is a good bargain for those who want to get away from the crowds of the city.

Great place to stay and take daily excursions from.

This was a comfortable, clean establishment with a friendly staff and low-key vibe. If you want super pampering and attention like you get at a luxury resort, this is not the place for you. I loved that it is in a real neighborhood and near the zoo. A highlight was the restaurant adjoining the hotel, Serrano Restaurant. The manager, [...], is a welcoming host who just happens to have a great singing voice and a wonderful chef.

The hotel was all two bedroom units with kitchenettes. It was kept spotlessly clean. At this time of year the pool area was uncrowded and very restful.

Booked the Iguana with my girlfriend for a week. Out of four levels the upper three were unavalible getting painted and renovated, the first level rooms were a bit dark and of course lacked balconies. That meant the restaurant and bar were only open briefly during our week stay, the hot tub was only running one time during a private party. I had no knowledge of the three floors unavalibility apon booking. The positives were we had the place to ourselves for the most part and the staff was friendly exept for one of the two desk girls, forgot her name, the other girl [...] was very nice and helpful. There were other small annoyences such as the water heater going out, bad tv reception and the constant presence of the cleaning staff that tended to be a bit noisy at times. All and all the experience was a good one, loved the location adjacent to the jungle and small cobblestoned street community and a nice beach with several cool beach restaurants in short walking distance. Reliable bus and cab service was also conviniently close by. We would definitly stay at Casa Iguana again if they keep their prices reasonable apon completing renovations.

This is a great location. I discovered Mismaloya beach 4 years ago while trying to escape the hotel district and DT Puerta Vallarta and the non-stop haggling and pressure from timeshare/condo sales and adventure trip pushers. You'll get a little of it here but not nearly as much. Casa Iguana is for sale and is in a transition. We chose it because it had kitchens and the rooms were a decent size. From the outside this place looks spectacular; great pool, hot tub, restaurant, and the staff is absolutely excellent. If you are planning on saving $ and cooking for yourself, a major update needs to be done to the kitchens. The stove was awful and there was no oven or microwave. If you can handle very very rustic kitchen facilities you'll be just fine. When we complained we were given a suite (probably the best room in the place) and we had a great vacation overall. The present owner ([...]) will take good care of you if you have any problems. The hike from Boca to Animas was very enjoyable but be prepared for steep precipices and watch your step. Path isn't the best marked just stay to the left(beach). Plus, arrange for a water taxi at Boca before heading out so you'll have a ride back. Hike is 2 hours to 2 hours and 20 minutes. The buses are a great cheap way to get back and forth from town or wherever you want to go. Don't miss the Huitchl Indian art (the peyote people) from the mountains. It's unbelievable and a must have, esp. the yarn pictures and bead covered sculptures.

This was our(my wife and I) belated honeymoon. We had been looking forward to this for months. Before we left we(mainly my wife) had done our research on the hotel and the area surrounding it. After 2 adventurous bus trips from the airport to PVR and PVR to the hotel we found ourselves dropped off at what can be best described as a stony trail( little did I know this was way all the streets were) The hotel was a 2 minute walk from the bus stop. The bus service was fantastic. Cheap, simple an easy. We were greeted at the reception by the friendly [...]. He checked us in quick and fast. Unfortunately owing to the low season he told us the bar and restaurant was closed......bummer......but there was an in-hotel mini mart that sold the essentials i.e. agua y cerveza......sweet. The room was basic but adequate, especially A/C in both bedrooms and sitting room plus ceiling fans. Ahhhhh cool air. The best part of the hotel was the fantastic Wi-Fi. This was essential for us as we wanted to skype home to our 15 month old daughter plus my wife had some online quizzes to take for school. The facilities were nice - pool, hot tub, spa, lounging area around pool and the grounds were kept very, very clean. Casa Iguana is located in Mismaloya, about 20-25 minutes by bus/taxi from PVR.

Nice hotel in a quiet location. It's about a 20-30 minute busride to Puerto Vallarta and Mismaloya is sowewhat limited in services, but the location is restful and there are lots of outdoor things to do.
