First off we were upgraded to the palace due to COVID. Service was great, food was great, and resort was super clean. We went knowing that not everything was going to be open and we’re glad we went. The resort had maybe 150 guest there while we were there, so it was like our own private resort. Snorkeling right off the beach was amazing.

The first impression at the lobby was okay. However, when I got to my room, the building needed painting, and the room was old and rusty lamps. Even if I have old things, we need to take care of them. not need to replace everything, a bit of care will go a long way. was disappointed at my room. The property in general is nice. The kids pool is amazing, my kids enjoyed it. The beach was nice. The food was not good. You can find something to eat since they have plenty of stuff, but no high quality. Maybe a little less choices and more quality will also go a long way. I'm not a picky eater, I would eat anything, but even I had trouble deciding. They have a lot of activities. You will definite not be bored. The place is huge and you can go to the other 3 resorts. We did the dolphin experience. Nice an convenient right on property. They offer free Wifi at the market, and guess services has free internet. The staff it is okay. Once you start talking to them, they are very friendly. Otherwise they appear rude and distance. After talking to a few of them and see how other guests treat them, I completely understand why. A word of advise to my fellow travelers, these workers are people just like us doing a job. They are not our slaves or servants. A kind word, a please and thankyou goes a long way. Their English is not the best, some of them are studying and learning. BUT we are in MEXICO, where Spanish is the official language. Kindness will take you a long way too.

I stayed at Barcelo Maya Colonial Feb29th-March 8th and have very mixed feelings about the place. Resort: Overall the resort is great and massive. Lots of amazing pool, restaurant options, shopping center, bowling, mini golf, beautiful beach. Food: Some restaurants are a bit better than others. Buffet is very mediocre. My favorite restaurant was spanish (La Fuente I believe) Service: Surprisingly, very very sub par service. I also had a very unpleasant situation that left quite a negative experience: On the first evening of our stay, as I was walking to the buffet, I slipped on a wet spot right next to the buffet entrance and upon falling, significantly hurt my arm (wrist). There were multiple witnesses to my fall and everyone clearly saw a wet spot where I slipped but there was no signage in place. My family helped me up, security ran up to me and brought me ice and told me that there is a medic on site that I can go visit. When I went to see the medic they told me that there was a fee associated with the exam but the hotel might cover the fee since it was a slip and fall on wet spot that was not marked. Thankfully, the medic determined that there was no broken bones, bandaged my arm and then called in security. I filled out some paperwork explaining the situation and they assured me that they will follow up with me the following day to let me know if hotel would cover. After several days nobody followed up with me so I went to the premium lounge and spoke to the front desk

Great property, very friendly staff. Great variety in food. Multiple very good restaurants. Beach is beautiful with perfect sand, always beautiful and clean.

The wait staff always have a negative expression and they do not care to wait on you. We had one gentleman....Alfredo.....he was AMAZING....other than that no one even wanted to help us. On the beach you have to get your own drinks 100% of the time and when you go grab your drinks there are 2 bartenders and the line is 20+ people deep....so you will be waiting for at least 30 minutes for a drink.....They expect tips and I mean EXPECT tips. It was just a different resort than I am used to. I will not be back.

Beautiful grounds, incredible spa, so much to do and the food was excellent!! Can’t wait to go back!

We stayed 7 nights at Barceló Maya Colonial. The property is extremely clean and well kept. The room are a little outdated but they offer the comfort you need and are clean. The food was great and all the a la carte restaurants were amazing. My favorite was Kyoto, the Japanese restaurant. Each night there was a different life show for the guests’ entertainment. All shows were extremely fun. The kids really liked the magic show. There are several different entertainment options, some of them are not even marketed. There is a kids disco, dolphins show at 12 every day, and so many more. My husband didn’t really like the fact that there was no alcohol served until 12, but it didn’t bother me. Apparently is a riviera maya law. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Best family vacation yet!
