The food in the buffet and restaurants are above average, food at the pool is below average. Beverages are as low shelf booze as you can get. Pool Bar does not have enough staff. You wait 15 min at least for a drink. Rooms were very clean but outdated. The staff slid a note under our door and asked for me to go to the front desk. I was at the ocean so my wife went and they accused me of trying to break into other guests rooms. My wife told them that is nothing my husband would do, and asked if they had the right person. They said they checked security cameras and it was me. My wife then asked for the description. They said it was a 6'2" African American. I am a 5'10" Caucasian. They said she could leave and no apology was given. The next night we returned from the pool and there was a man trying to use a key to get into our room. I asked what he was doing and he ran off saying sorry wrong room. We went and told the front desk and they said they would check the cameras and get back to us. They never did and when we asked the next day they had no clue what we were talking about. My wife did not feel safe the rest of the trip. Would not recomend and will not be returning.

When we arrived at the Riu, it was approx. 2 pm. We knew check in was not until 3, so we were not surprised that our room was not ready. They gave us our bands and we went and ate lunch and walked around the resort. When we went back up to the lobby at about 3, they said it was still not ready, but to give them 15 minutes. We gave them an hour. Meantime all these buses are coming in, and people are going to their rooms. Went up to the desk around 4:15 and asked about our room, she said it was still not ready, and give her about 15 minutes and they would e-mail me when it was ready. I had told her multiple times my phone was dead. I started getting upset, and asked about all the people I have seen come in and go to their rooms. Why can't I get one of those. Just as I started to ask to see a manager she said oh your room is ready. She gave us our room key, and started to walk away. I said, how do we get to our room? She pointed and said elevators are down that hall. Any time I asked a question she would refer me to the app. The staff was not friendly or helpful. I normally say good morning to staff I meet along the way in the morning. I would say buenos dias and they would just look at me. I will say our maid was fantastic. She made little characters out of the towels every day. Food was okay. Typical resort food. Not bad, but not fantastic. I will think twice before staying at a Riu again.

The food at pretty much all the restaurants were very low quality. There is NO room service.

Employees are very welcoming and helpful

I had a great time! It was worth every penny.
