My family has always loved the RIU resorts and have vacationed in multiple of them but, this one was a disappointment. We travel with kids most of the time, to start with our room...had bed bugs:(, first night my kids woke up with lots of bites all over their bodies that swallowed up like an allergic reaction, at first we thought they could be mosquitoes but decided to check the bed and found bugs. We reported and had a bed changed...not the room. It took a few days for the bites to get and look better to where y kids were not in pain and start enjoying the hotel. The staff is always great, had a hard time with the drinks, being an all inclusive alcohol is always free, however, at this location all drinks with exceptions of wine had so much sugar (very sweet) they were impossible for us to drink must of them. We were constantly asking to not add any sugar or sweeteners and by day 3 decided to drink wine or beer only. Bottle water was not provided other that some left in the room fridge. Restaurants...they have 3 dinner restaurants but 2 seating is limited (small rooms), 2 buffets that alternate times...food was the same everyday. Lastly, the WiFi. There is free WiFi on open areas, but if you want to use in enclosed areas...like the gym you need to pay an extra daily charge. The free areas also limited to the use of 2 devices per room. I do not wish to be so negative about this hotel...just want to mention that this location doesn't live up to the expectations of must RIU's

The towel thing it's ridiculous how they don't let you exchange a wet towel to a dry/clean one. You stuck with same towel all day until you return it oh and adults pool it's nasty and dirty.

Great staff, great facility! Raul, Graciela, Omar-Muchos, Muchos Gracias!!!!!!

this is our second time staying at a Riu resort and after this one we will not stay anywhere else!!!! very nice hotel, beds and pillows are horrible but I haven't stayed in mexico where they were comfy. AMAZING views!!!!! we got the junior suite with ocean view. we had a large group and everyone was very happy with their views!! pools were great. Food.... well nothing spectacular but good for buffet food. entertainment was great!!! Beaches were AMAZING also, and not overflowing with vendors. we had a lot of fun and will definitely be coming back. Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful place.

Pools and beach are nice, but you have to get to the pool early if you want a chair. Food was good with a variety to choose from. Room was just okay, a bit dated and the bed was very hard and the hide-a-bed for the kids was very uncomfortable.

Food, staff, facilities were all excellent. Would recommend.

The food at this place was not so great. Breakfast was literally the same thing everyday at both buffet places. The staff working the eating areas did not offer drinks or asked if anything was needed. Stayed here for a week and the last 4 days we ate out everyday because we were already tired of the same foods. We did speak with one of the attendants on this matter and were advised it all had to do with the owner trying to keep a low budget. No one will be thrown under the bus but just had to put it out there. Besides this our room was clean everday, fridge stocked with water, pop and beer. Would I stay at Riu Vallarta again? No! I would rather try out one of the other Riu's in the area.

The minute you walk in and register, the staff makes you feel so welcome. We were fortunate enough to get a suite overlooking the pool. Beautiful room and great view. We enjoyed drinking our cup of coffee on the deck in the morning and enjoyed that last drink of the day there as well. The night activities have something for all ages. The bartenders work very hard in trying to please their customers. We enjoyed a great week of relaxing on the beach. We have been going back to the Vallarta for the last 5 years. We truly enjoy the hospitality and the great view.

Just came back from RIU VALLARTA, usually I never write any reviews but this time I think I have to. Read reviews prior to book this hotel and they are way off. From a 100% of it may be only 15-20% was true.Couple things that was really disappointing was #1smoking! They allow smoke every where, except in the restaurant area. To be with a little baby its really bothered us, smoking smell in the elevators, in the hallways, next to the pool, it was really bed. For a family oriented hotel it was not acceptable.#2 So so uncomfortable beds, super hard and they give you only 2 pillows that really small and flat. They are not changing linens while your stay there, just make your room nice and that was it. We stayed 10 nights there and pillow cases wasn't changed since day 1. You can tell by the look and you can tell by the smell of the bed, that they not fresh. Also first couple days my husband had really bad bites all over his body specially on his chest, we used some repellent and it help. So our conclusion was there was a bed bugs! We travel a lot, this was our 1st time to PTV and it will be our last specially to this hotel. Food was ok, nothing speciall.Almost everything was the same every day. Cancun was much nicer than PTV, compare to the beach, water and hotels. So not worth the money. The only positive thing was the employees, everyone was working super fast and they where really pleasent and nice all the time. Shows was ok, was not worth the time to sit there for an 1 hour.

Just got back from this hotel about a week ago. We had a great stay. Hotel was comfortable and clean. Not fancy, but clean and enjoyable. Had 4 restaurants (that I remember). The steakhouse was the best in our opinion. Had a wonderful meal. The buffet was big and had good food. The food at the sports bar was terrible, but the other restaurants more than made up for it. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean. Had a mini fridge with drinks, which was so nice to have. It was restocked each time the maids cleaned. The bed was so firm/hard. My only complaint about the room is the uncomfortable bed. The night time entertainment was fun. The pools and bars shut down kind of early, buts it's nice to not hear all the noise when trying to sleep. Taxis are available very quickly. WiFi is free in the lobby. It would be nice if they had free WiFi throughout the hotel, but most hotels don't anyway. All in all, we loved our visit. We would definitely go back!

Been to Vallarta many time and I've always wanted to try a RIU resort and sadly was greatly disappointed compared to other places I've stayed. I won't be returning.

Staff is fun and friendly!! Lots of activities during the day and into the evening! Great experience!

Great place and very accommodating. Staff very friendly. Beds were a little hard. We had a great time!

Hotel is located only a short cab ride from the airport. Friendly staff great you the moment you arrive and strive to make your stay enjoyable throughout your visit. The beach scene is straight out of a painting with crashing waves and mountains dotting the horizon. The grounds are well kept and clean. Food is average for an all inclusive deal. Buffets offer the most choices and variety for meals. Every night there was a show put on in the open air theatre. Over all it was a great value for the cost. I would definitely come back in the future.

Excellent we got up graded to a suite!! It was beautiful

The hotel was nice. The beach was great. The staff was second to none.

Older, low budget hotel, rooms ok, food ok, entertainment low to nothing, pretty much for the same money go to Riu Jalisco and enjoy your vacation

Great staff and great hotel. Worth every penny. Been in other others and after staying on the Riu I'll make sure to always stay in a Riu hotel from now on. great vacation

We enjoyed the hotel design and the way it was decorated. There were plenty of bars and it was easy to get drinks from the beach. The beach had many chairs - we never had an issue getting chairs after breakfast (the pool chairs were all saved by towels early so plan accordingly if you want a good spot for the day there). There were many palm trees arranged on the beach so too much sun was not an issue. The food was decent and the restaurants are on a first come, first served basis. Sir George, the gourmet restaurant, was our favorite and has limited seating so line up early to ensure you get a table. The steakhouse is right on the beach and was good as well. There was some pretty decent entertainment. The Michael Jackson performance and the Opera Night performance really stood out. The staff was very courteous and our room was always cleaned as well as restocked. The staff were decorating for Christmas during our stay and it looked very nice all around the resort. It was about a 30 minute taxi ride to downtown Puerto Vallarta and took about an hour by bus to get back to the hotel. Overall, this resort was very enjoyable. It was a smaller resort, which we enjoyed, and had a great beach area to relax all day. We had a great time and would recommend this hotel as a less expensive option for relaxing. The views from the beach were amazing.

The hotel was lovely & is situated on one of the nicest beach areas on the Pacific side. We had great food & the staff & amenities were fantastic. The view was AMAZING. It was awesome to wake up to a glorious ocean view. Unfortunately we weren't all that comfortable in the room we had. It wasn't the cleanest, and the sleeping arrangements for our families were less than ideal. For a family of 4 it was NOT ok that my 2 teenage kids had to sleep with us in the over-sized king bed (2 doubles stuck together, and no way to separate them), as the hide-a-bed sofa was not adequate for anyone to sleep on. To me a junior suite would have more room than a regular sized hotel room here in Canada. There were no kitchen facilities or room service, just a fully stocked fridge & coffee pot. An upgrade would have been ideal but that was not offered to us.
