It's a small hotel with great charm in the Latin quartier, close to the best places in town. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there on my next vacations. The owner is a lovely Mexican lady who's always willing to make your stay a nice experience.
The hotel is very well located in the city center. Good location for visiting Montreal. For parking, the Bibliotec parking is 5 mins walk away. 10dollars per day free in/out in the week-end. The staff is nice. The breakfast is very simple but enough for the price. However, the room is not clean enough. The sheets are old and smelly. We got bite by something unknown during 2 nights.
Location is the best part. But while the manager was friendly, he had a hard time serving breakfast when he was the only one doing the dishes, bringing the food out and cooking. Not enough silver ware was put out for all the guests. And not cleaned thoroughly either. Room was smelly - ammonia cleaner and wood floor was sticky. Shower stall not clean and breaking down. First day we put the tag out with side saying "Please make my room" facing out and room was not made. PERHAPS they assumed it as "Do not disturb" which is on the other side of same tag. Tag had same color on both sides. Next 2 days we did not put the tag and room was made. However we ran out of Shower soap which was not replenished. No soap bars provided. Also no complete towel sets. Some days we got no hand/face towels and some days no wash cloths. Looks like they are short on all amenities and no quality control. No writing paper/pen. Dearth of plug points. WiFi speed was so slow and basically useless. We have stayed at other B&B's where you feel like you are treated well, are clean and above all homely. This place was anything but. Side Note: Be prepared to lug your luggage up and down yourself. No one to help. That was a surprise for us!
The hotel was comfortable and good value for money. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The free breakfast is good as a continental breakfast but might displease people who want a full breakfast with eggs and bacon.
Like many other reviews for this so called hotel I certainly agree with it's in a great location with all restaurants down the street. But that's all! We paid an enormous amount for 2 night in June. Unfortunately, we didn't know when we booked that is was the Formula 1 on the weekend before our cruise. We just thought that was the prices in Montreal all the time. We paid $460 for 2 nights in this dump! The smell, please do something about that! And the sticky floor too. The TV didn't work either. The manager I spoke to was rude and said if we didn't like it we should move! It really ruined our stay in Montreal. As many have said, the photos shown on website doesn't look at all like that in real life. Avoid this hotel! I probably get the same answer from the Manager that she has given all others!
I checked into this hotel on a work visit - where work had thought it nice that I stayed downtown over the weekend....I wish they had never bothered. I was given room 101 - approached down a dark alleyway through a side door. The room was tiny, dark, oppressive and smelt disgusting - I booked in for two nights - but left after one - not a pleasant experience - not good value for money!
It was a nightmare - we stayed there for 1 night! Super dirty, pubic hair all over the room, bugs everywhere (beware of the nasty BED BUGS!!), mouldy ceiling, bad smell (most likely from the stains everywhere). The furniture was very basic and old, mattress had huge smelly stains, fridge was making weird noises all night. After complaining we got a 50% refund, but no apology or anything – this “cleaning service issues” are known by the management and they don’t care. Other guests also complained while we were there and requested to change the room.
I had expectations of a place like a hostel, so I was pleased with my room and with the shower/toilet. Our room was on the top floor, so it was nice and clean and fresh-smelling. At first the internet wasn't working, but after a couple of days, it got straightened out. The TV was on the blink. The staff is very nice indeed, especially the young man who does breakfast duty. The food was good and I appreciated that breakfast was included. The only issue was the fire alarm going off in the night. The girl on duty came and took care of it, but then never addressed those of use waiting outside, to tell us it was okay to go inside and that it was just an alarm and not a fire. But after some time, we figured it out. I have no complaints really. I like the neighborhood, with all those restaurants!
We arrived to Montreal in the early evening hours after over 3 hrs journey from Quebec. With our luggages it took us about and hour to get to the hotel. Turning into St Denis St where the horror starts. Surrounded with druggies and beggars we arrived to the place that no longer looked as reassuring as the photos. The first that hits you is the strong, sour smell of disinfectant and uncleanliness. Arriving at 7.30pm exhausted the woman at the reception asked if we came for the formula1 which explains the quadruple prices. Hence they had a cheek charging us 670 CAD for 3 nights in this dump that we booked 3 months in advance. We thought we are getting the top hotel on our Canada trip. We were allocated room 102 under the building and below the basement, next to their laundry place. The toxic smell of industrial disinfectant and insect killer down here was suffocating. We left our luggages, had some refreshments in a nearby restaurant and returned to the room. After a proper look we realised that this place has not been properly cleaned probably ever - the floor was so sticky that one felt like walking on a glue, left over pieces of ripped clothing and dirt and dust everywhere. Had no choice but going back to the reception where a lady with a pink fringe told us to come back in the morning as nobody is there to help. This was before 9pm and the website says the reception is open till 10pm???I explained her the situation but she couldn't clean the room either place us elsewhere as it was a full house. However, she said if we find a hotel and come back before 11pm she refund us. Had no choice but book another hotel ran back when she told me she spoke to the manager and if the room is non refundable on booking.com they won't refund me. Now this was the last nail in the coffin. Eventually she got hold of someone and came to the conclusion refunding me 2 nights out of 3 as per them I should have told them immediately that there was an issue. Having no more time to waste and being exhausted I accepted the 2 days. I appreciate this lady's help and I am sorry she had to deal with this unpleasant situation, working in this dump with dumb employers. With great regret this disappointment led me to the decision cancelling my reservation in Toronto via booking.com and I will delete my account with booking.com. They clearly don't check hotels being true to the description and photos they advertise nor check relevant paperwork whether these places are run legally. I personally don't believe that authorities in Montreal would have authorised to run this dump which does not fit to human standards as a legal hotel representing their city. Such a shame! It ruined our first impression of the city let alone our whole impression of the hotel and booking.com. Ps the only photo I took was in front of room 102
We went there last Saturday, the service is great and the stuff are very friendly, I want to say it is in the great location, close to the Supermarket, Bar, BUS station, Parking, it is very convenient ,we may come back again!
