The Marker San Francisco, a Joie de Vivre Hotel

Beware of hidden fees! The Marker hotel is the poster child for dishonest pricing. It was advertized for under $300 on Orbitz and I ended up paying close to $450 (without any food, use of amenities, etc) - all kinds of hidden fees and taxes, so beware. The worst was an extra $29 fee when I checked out for amenities for things like coffee in the morning (which I don't drink) and Wifi access (which I never requested/wanted).

Nice, clean hotel close to a lot of amazing locations

Overall, it’s ok. But hotel location is not the best with the homeless situation in the area.

The hotel is stylish, chic, and business oriented. Staff is pleasurable. Hotel amenities are okay. The rooms do not come with a charger. Staff at the restaurant were a little too telling of their pesonal life and forward with my partner. The manager did a stand out job in assisting with offer a charger and directing us to our room. He was wonderful! We’d def go back.

The staff are so lovely and genuine. The decor is a ton of fun and the rooms were incredibly

We loved our stay at the Marker. The staff was very helpful, and loved the decor. Our city view that we upgraded for wasn’t exactly what we expected, but the suite was really nice. We would stay there again!

A classic older hotel refurbished with a whimsical modern flair. The kids really found it charming. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was remarkably delicious -- try the breakfast sandwich. Close to Union Square, helpful staff, nice lobby space for guests. Surprised not to find hair dryer in room, room with two beds was quite small. Overall good experience.

Hotel is too close to the sketchy area. The room was tiny and faced another room. We were only there for several hours, but definitely were disappointed, as our last stay at the Westin close by was much better. I would not stay there again or recommend.

Our first room was depressing, looking out onto a back wall. We were moved to another room, looking out on the street. The hotel advertised queen sized beds, but they were smallish full sized, semi comfortable. This hotel has an excellent location, near union square, market street, etc. Pretty decent restaurants and shopping nearby.

The Marker is an incredible hotel and the staff is absolutely amazing. The proximity to everything is great and the staff do a great job of helping you get settled in and oriented for the duration of your stay. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be staying there again.

Clean rooms with tasteful decor. My biggest complaint is that it seemed understaffed. Checking in and checking out both required queuing, which I found frustrating.

I stayed here when it was the Monaco and had a better experience. Join de Vivre has lost a little luster on this one but the stay was fine. Wasn’t crazy for the restaurant Trattoria, went next door to the Cliff for a meal at the Redwood Room bar instead.

Good experience overall, just didn't like the amenities fee of 25 dollars a day. They charged you regardless , whether you used the gym or the other perks, The WiFi was not free. Great staff, very friendly and helpful.

Friendly staff, nice room, no hot water. Good location, though the neighborhood is a bit seedy.

The staff was friendly and communicative, although our request to get our two rooms close together proved an impossible task (a common hotel issue — why can’t they let you book a specific set of rooms?!) but overall, a decent hotel for the price.

Great hotel...the staff were very friendly and helpful!! The room could have been a little bigger..

The room was small but had character. Tastefully and comfortably furnished. On 2nd floor above gathering room but still quiet. While close to Union Square the hotel sits 1/2 block away from a very rough section of San Francisco- possibly the beginning of the tenderloin district. Very unsanitary conditions with lots of overt drug use. Not for kids. No coffee maker in the room. Really enjoy having that when available. There was a fridge we did not use. Valet Parking was outrageous. Used 5th and Mission garage. There was also a $22 fee tacked on at the end for wine tasting and internet use. We used neither. I always find it disheartening that, in San Francisco, the most wired city in the world, hotels charge for internet access. These hotels put out these low rates and then just keep tacking on charges until you wish you had just stayed at the Marriott.

We flew in early morning, way before check in. The staff was very helpful and since a room was available we were able to check in. We ate an amazing breakfast at Tratto. Which is attached to the hotel. You have to do dinner there. Their food is great. We then explored San Fransico. We started from The Marker to Chinatown. Kept walking to Coit tower, Crooked street/Lombard and then ate lunch at Fisherman's Wharf. We took the cable car back to union square to shop and walk back to our hotel for happy hour. The next day we rented a car down the street to go to Sonoma.

Pet friendly. Great hotel and very comfortable. Note Several block walk for grass for dog relief.
