The pictures you had online with your airline package were deceiving. They were pictures of the suites on the top floor. The first room was so small that in the bathroom was so small that I hit my head on the sink when I stood up from sitting on the toliet. The front desk did change our room to a larger room with out an extra charge but it was still small nothing like the pictures. The staff was great

The staff is always friendly and anxious to please. I always feel welcome here. A nice surprise was getting a renovated room. While the room is still small, as is this old hotel, the bathroom is new and bright, the flat screen TV is large, sitting on a dresser-desk top with ample space to do some work, when not sight seeing. The bed is firm and comforting, especially after tourist-walking all day. Needless to say, the Cartwright is located close to the Bart station and the cable car line. Just a great place to be!

Warm staff and nice new little room. Very tiny bathroom, but everything is fuctional. Great location

First off they couldn't find my reservation. After 10 minutes and a telephone call by the staff member they found it. They didn't even apologize. Loud noise all night. When checking out the staff never even said thank you for staying just said "We need the room key" and said nothing more. You would be treated better if you stayed in a dumpster in the tenderloin. I WON'T stay here again!!!!

Nice location, bar across the street. Be prepared to stay up til 3 in the morning listening to the music and people. Good stay would recommend

The staff at the reception desk is really friendly and helpful !!! Rooms are simply but clean. Beds are comfortable. Lots of useful information in the nice entrance hall. If you just need a place to sleep and don't spend much too time in the room itself this is a great place to stay.

Good value for the money, excellent location, union square is very close

We chose this hotel based on closeness to Union Square and for the price it was okay. The lobby is beautifully decorated but we had to park our car a few blocks away which is an inconvenience. The rooms are very outdated and I was itching the whole night, we ended up changing rooms at 2AM in the morning because I felt our room might have had bed bugs I was so itchy. We had to go across the street at 2am for Benadryl and after we changed rooms the front desk did offer a wave in our parking fees. Still I would not come back to this hotel, very outdated, seems unclean and bad experience.

The Cartwright Hotel Union Square was perfect for my quick trip into the city to catch a show. I loved the classic early 20th century architecture. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My room was on the small side as is for the era of the construction but the bathroom was a very good size and all was comfortable and bright. I would recommend this hotel for a romantic getaway to the city or for a single traveler like myself.

It was just one night after a business trip and my friend and I were exhausted. The hotel staff was very helpful about storing our luggage all day before we could check-in and letting us hang around their lobby. The room was small, and our bed leaned a tiny bit to one side, but it was still pretty comfortable. For the size, the layout was really good. Bathroom tiny but functional. Loved all of the tiles in there, felt very 60s modern. If you want luxury this isn't for you but the staff, room and location were all good enough for a comfy stay at a reasonable price.

Conveniently located, very friendly staff and adequate accommodations. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was very small but functional and clean. Nice change of pace from your standard hotel, but if you want amenities galore this will not be the place for you. We just needed something safe, clean and easy to get around from for one night and this fit the bill. The staff was very accommodating in helping us sort out travel plans to Sonoma.

Travel for business. Very good location, nice helpful staff. No bar or restaurant, but the price is right. Close to China Town and Union Square!

Not bad, not good but not bad. I would stay there again if a trip to that area was in store for me.

great hotel for a budget trip to SF. I will go back again.

I loved how the staff were all about my dog. A must hotel if you have pets!!

The hotel was nice but wish it had a mini fridge and a mircowave but besides that it was great!

This was terrible. Within an hour.of being in our rooms.we.were.bitten by bedbugs. The experience wasso distressing that a room change did not suffice. We we could not risk.being bitten throughout the night. It was awful. We.checked into another hotel and I had to shower and wash and dry my hair to stop that crawling feeling. I took an antihistamine also. Very very distressing.

The staff was so warm & friendly - so incredibly helpful. It's a special place, really - like joining a family. The location is right in the heart of SF - walking distance to some of the more interesting neighbourhoods and provides so many transit options to get to the others. Also feels like Philip Marlow should be staying in the next room ...

The value of The Cartwright is its location, just off the northwest corner of San Francisco's Union Square (shopping and entertainment district). This prime real estate means you don't hear the crowds or the cable cars all day and night, but you are close to both. You are also steps away from a Walgreens drug/grocery store, and the 24-hours Lori's Diner. The downside is that the rooms and the interiors are very dated. The closet is big enough to feel like a walk-in, with a dresser and ironing board inside it, but it's bigger than the bathroom (which required stepping over the toilet to get to the shower, but thankfully, there was a clean and deep tub for soaking after a day of walking about). Even the alarm clock felt old: it played CDs, but had no auxiliary port for an iDevice - who still travels with CDs these days? So the price was worth it for me to be near everything I wanted to see and do during a weekend getaway return visit to the city I called home for ten years. I wanted serviceable, and I got at least that. Luckily, I never intended to "live" my weekend in the hotel, so the Cartwright served its duty. Thanks!
