I booked a room online through Expedia. My daughter and I were traveling from Miami to KC. We attempted to contact the hotel along the way because we thought we may arrive earlier than expected to see if we could change our reservation to a day early; this turned into them charging me for 2 nights, then when I got there they had charged me as a no- show; taken me out of their system completely and because they were booked, I ended up with no room at all! At least I got a complete refund.

We weren't greeted upon check-in and was just a business transaction. The elevators were a bit sketchy and kept sounding as if they were about to fall apart. Pillows were too thick and hard to use. No sitting area in the room besides one chair made it hard to want to be in the room. In the morning, the breakfast was very disappointing. Frozen fruits, little bit of yogurt, and some white bread with a couple of bagels. We waited 50 minutes for our ready to make omelette which then they skipped our order and just after that they fried the electricity and we were all just told sorry and that was that. I would have expected a bit better service at that point. The free drinks upon arrival were a nice touch and the staff there was great. however, the tables were all filthy and hadn't been cleaned for awhile. There's still some work to be done and I think it's a great concept but there's certain things that can be done even in the midst of construction. We hope it gets better as we really would like to stay there again if it does.

Find another place. Small room right outside lobby so it was very loud. Bathroom was old and breakfast was not good.

We chose this hotel because it appeared to be pretty cool and not like a regular Holiday Inn or something. The location was also good. We got a discounted price last minute through Orbitz which was the big selling point We booked a "retro king" on Orbitz but got a regular two queen. The room was fine but seemed very bare bones with typical outdated hotel furniture. Our biggest complaint was that house keeping did not get to our room despite being away for several hours. Breakfast was very boring but good to have been included. The front doors are not auto sliding and a little difficult to use when you have a suitcase or two. Our stay was fine. The price we booked at was fine. It was all just fine. But I would NOT pay full advertised price for this place.

The updates are very nice. It was our second time staying here.

Room seemed to be reasonable at first, but was really nasty after looking around. And after complaining, the manager said that was terrible and kinda just stood there. Wasn’t going to do anything about it. When pressed in about it he reluctantly agreed to a refund.

The room was lovely, I loved the bathroom update. While we were in the hallway preparing to enter our room we could hear some music playing fairly loudly from one of the adjoining rooms, but once we got into our room with the door shut we couldn't hear a thing! That alone was Impressive for a hotel, usually you can hear just about everything through the walls. The breakfast in the morning was fabulous! They had a wide spread of breakfast choices, but my favorite was the omelet station. Very nice that that kind of option is available for a free breakfast! My only advice would be to carry some cash with you so you can tip the cook. :)

For the price and area it was the best option around. The decor and cleanliness inside each room was excellent. Definite must if you are in the KC area.

If you just need a place to sleep after going out then this place is fine, especially for the rate. The bathroom was filthy, no tissues, tub was sunken in, shower head is low, hair from previous guests and gnats share the space with you. They say it's being renovated but there were no signs of that over the course of my stay and no one in my party had a new room, perhaps if you can request a new room then I'd consider returning to 816.

Not the nicest hotel but no real complaints. Bathroom was remodeled but had a few things askew in it. Such as the door didnt entirely close. The room was clean and the bed was comfy.

Accommodating staff, great value in a clean, quiet place downtown. WOuld use again!

Great for a stay- cation! Recommend it to anyone

It was conveniently located for our stay. Did have problems with hot water on two days of the 4 days we were there. It was promptly attended to, although I think it was something being put off to correct for the long term.

I was tired when I got there the front desk personal were great. They got me checked in but the room was not nice at all I asked for another room it was a little better than my reserved room. The Front desk clerk replaced my refrigerator that was broken he also change the light that was out in the bathroom. This room was dirty the bathroom needed a good scrubbing and it just wasn't clean. There was mold in the bathroom too. The kept giving my key to the room to other people now that was not right having someone trying to get in to your room late at night. The only thing that didn't make me go to another hotel is the front desk clerks they all did there best to make a bad situation good. I would like for them to redo all of the rooms, this Hotel it is located near the plaza, the themed rooms are a nice ideal I wish I could have got one of those. The rest of Hotel just didn't measure up to the photos on the internet.

Loved the location. Shower drain was all plugged and would not drain. Beds were comfortable.

Good happy hour. Good breakfast. Bed was a little uncomfortable. Would stay again.

I booked this hotel because of its location and that it was a new boutique hotel in the area. I reviewed pictures before I booked and figured the lower rate was due to being new and wanting to get new customers. I checked in after a long day to a messy front counter, loud people behind the desk and they were speaking about things I didn't think were appropriate. I got checked in and off to my room. Got to my room and it was not the room I had reserved or paid for. I called the front and I went downstairs to get new keys. I went back up to my 2nd room to turn the light on in the bathroom and found a roach scrambling across the floor. I killed it and thought maybe it was just one. Then I was in the main room for a few minutes and saw 2 more. I immediately called downstairs and decided that I was not staying in a hotel with roaches as what else wasn't clean. They apologized but didn't act surprised at all. Canceled my room without a blink of an eye and said I would receive a credit. Still haven't seen that yet. I had to find myself another hotel at a reasonable price at midnight. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Can't say enough about the staff. They were very friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast including an omelet bar was out of this world. The hotel even provided happy hour from 5-7 PM with 2 free drinks per person. It was a great way to meet guests as well as hotel staff. The hotel was within walking distance of several restaurants but if it was too far the free hotel shuttle would take you anywhere within a 4 mile radius. We had an excellent stay at the 816 and would stay there again if we're ever back in KC.

At first I was a bit upset for the confusion with them offering free drinks during happy hour but, not having a full service bar open later than 9pm. But I will say the morning staff who serves breakfast every morning are enjoyable and a delight to engage. There was a mistake with my billing when we checked in but the front desk took care of it with ease when pointed out. The room had some cosmetic issues with the shower but that's the only problem. Over the room was amazing, the bed and towels were changed everday. It was in the heart of Westport a great area for food, drinks and bars. During the weekend it's very busy and allows a tourist to blend in. My only thing I would have improved on this would have been a snack machine for those midnight growling stomachs.

Staff were amazing! They gave us great restaurant tips and ideas of things to do! Great boutique hotel! Super cute!

Thank you for sharing your stay with us, Joe. We are an independent hotel with pride for the city we are a part of! We do offer a few different types of rooms. We have 23 DIFFERENT themed rooms. And the rest are retro and standard rooms with either 1 king bed or 2 doubles. I wonder if you weren't still in a retro room. Our signs are part of our eclecticness! We do pride ourselves also on being unique! I do apologize that housekeeping didn't get to your room sooner. Some days are busier than others. Our housekeepers start on the rooms of guests who have checked out to prepare rooms for check in time. Then they go to rooms of guests who are staying over. You may have been here on a day when we had a lot of guests check out. Were you not able to enjoy an omelet?! Or your complimentary beverage in our bar? We hope you will come back and visit us! And ask for our Returning Guest Rate at any of our Area Code family hotels!

Thank you for sharing your #KCExperience with us. I will give my staff a high five from you! Our check in time is 4 since our check out is noon. This allows our housekeepers ample time to get rooms turned over in time for arrivals without having an earlier departure time. If you want to check in early, please call on the day of arrival. We are happy to do our best to get you in early based on availability. We hope to take care of you again. Please ask for our Returning Guest Rate at any of our Area Code family hotels!

No complaints is okay with me! The bathroom "barn" style door is being addressed with our carpenter. Our Housekeeping staff work hard to keep things cozy and clean! Thank you!
