I liked the staff because they were very professional.
The personnel at the property where always courteous and friendly. Very attentive. Great staff.
upon arriving at the occidental, we were greeting and offered a beverage while we waited. and we waited and waited and waited. we waited for over an hr to check in so we expected the check in to be full of details about the resort, accommodations, dining, activities, etc. But we simply received our wrist bands and room keys. Throughout our self tour, we discovered the four restaurants but soon realized only two were available for seating. (it took us two different days attempting to get reservations at the mexican restaurant before we were successful. We were never able to abstain reservations for the seafood restaurant, even when being first in line each morning to make reservations. We were told all spots were reserved by premium members.) Back to the self tour, we noticed a theater but could not find any posted information about times or events happening at the theater. When we inquired we were repeatedly told to scan the code. But we were never give or directed to said code. only by being nosey did we learn the shows were at 9pm each evening. The entertainment was fun so I am glad we figured it out on our own. Our room was fine but the bathroom was subpar. The drains smelled terrible every time we turned on the water. The food at the resort was as other reviews suggested: mediocre at best with limited selections each meal. The staff was friendly and helpful so that was encouraging. The pools and views were spectacular- the drinks were plenty. The spa staff was great.
Very clean hotel, staff were very nice, and helpful Except for those 90 min, they are very nice to you at first but as soon a you said no there attire change agains you . I think it should have not been like that.
This is my 3rd time coming here and I still absolutely love it. There are different food options within the hotel. The staff is friendly and polite. I never have any issues or complaints when I come here.
It was close to the airport. Lobby and pools were nice.
Reading reviews before booking I knew this was not going to be a luxury experience. I knew food was going to be disappointing and oh it was. Facilities were clean but old. My room had some issues but were fixed immediately. What made my stay nice was the staff. Everyone was absolutely spectacular. Drinks by the pool were flowing and staff was efficient. So overall it met my expectations and I’d say 3/5 is a reasonable rating. Would I come again? Most likely not but not based on the staff merely location and food quality.
Staff at the pools were great. Food was less than ok. Entertainment and the bars closed early. Had a wonderful time. Would definitely return.

The hotel lobby view will take your breath away! The location on the beach and close to shopping is fantastic. Our villa right on the beach with two full bedrooms/baths was perfect for our family, plenty of room to spread out. Some updates on these rooms are needed and coming I’m sure…they’re a bit dated but everything worked and was clean and location can’t be beat. I usually stay at 5 star properties, this one as a 4 Star is a good and fine property. Beach area is not maintained as well as 5 star, lots of debris is allowed to gather over time. Dishes, trash, etc. A big drawback compared to 5 star is they have no shade on the beach, only the palm trees. Most have umbrellas. Also no beach service for food/drink. Pool areas nice, crowded but we were there for spring break so not surprising. Slower customer service prolly for the same reason. The food gets lots of complaints on reviews….we found the restaurants nice and food was good. Buffet is hit and miss, but was often good and well stocked so it seems they’re trying to listen to feedback. Overall a good place to stay, beautiful beach is all I really require and they deliver on that.
Disappponting. Food was not good. Either cold or mushy. Even the fresh fruit was not good. Accommodations were poor. Was promised a roll away because the room said it slept 6, only accommodated 4. Roll away never was delivered. Resort is in need of an update. Very run down. Called Barcelo customer service, was not helped. Attempted to call hotel, phone not answered. The hotel charged an extra $100 per person at check in for a deposit. Cash up front. The shuttle transfer was paid to and from the airport to this resort. Our group was not picked up at the airport upon arrival. No answer when calling the shuttle company. Had to pay for a cab to get to hotel and did not get a refund on the shuttle service. Its hard to believe this property is part of a timeshare. For the money spent, it was a huge disappointment. We would not return. It wasnt worth what we paid. There are other properties that at least provide food that is edible, have reliable shuttles, and accommodate adults so no one has to sleep on a tile floor.
Did NOT like the food choices/buffet. The breakfast setup is absolutely the worst. The omelet station should not be in the middle of the rest of the food. It should be off to the side. People are constantly stepping in front of others to get to the hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, etc...
Liked the 3 pool options; various activities they offered on a daily basis; staff was very accommodating; no pressure for tips, but we did tip for good service incl at the specialty dinner restaurants on-site. Did not have hairdryer in our hotel room; food was 7-8 out of 10; upon our arrival they wanted us to sign up for a morning meeting about the Barcelo timeshares (we did not want to sit through a presentation to get a discount on sight-seeing tours, so we went to Kukulcan plaza and negotiated tours with the Baktun tour company..you can always negotiate with any company).
