The property was small, the perfect size. A 3 min walk to everything was great. No reservations were needed for theme restaurants which was fabulous! A laid back casual feel. We are a couple in our late 40s and enjoyed the relaxed feel. Very family friendly. Staff was excellen and accommodating. There were plenty of activities if you wanted them. Plenty of lounge chairs by the beach - never a problem to get one!! Most days a waiter came to beach with a drink tray. Food was well prepared and fresh. Great fruit selection every day. Drinks were great. The only negative, and not the resorts fault, the seeweed was really bad while we were there. It was a problem at all the resorts due to wind and currents.

I liked that the resort was smaller than most and the food was very good. There could be more shade on the beach.

The property is nice and the staff is wonderful. Food was decent, but the service at the Mexican restaurant was so slow, I would avoid that one. There is almost no shade, so there is no escaping the sun and there is no evening entertainment before 10pm.

Very nice place real good food Asian, stake house,Italian and Mexican, all restaurans top off the line.thanks Riu playa car.at playa del carmen.

Very good!! The food was excellent! The quality of the liquor has to be better.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, and excellent food. Really, I recommend this hotel. Also, it has an excellent location near to the beach.

This is the worst all inclusive I have ever stayed in. I requested to have 2 double beds months in advance when I booked this resort and when I showed up, they only had rooms with king beds. This is unacceptable and the way they manage their hotel reservations needs to be managed. If someone reserves a room with a double bed, that room is now gone and people should not be able to overbook if they don’t have the rooms. You can’t sell more of what you do not have. It is that simple. Also, the food at this resort needs to be addressed. I stayed here from 4/11/18-4/17/18. The food was the same every single day and night. Breakfast was the same bland meal. The only positive was the omelette station. They had the same hash browns at multiple stations, food was just repeated throughout the different stations. Lunch was the same exact meal every single day as well and the dinner buffet was changed up a bit but this did not matter. The food was flavorless or overly salted and my mom got food poisoning on our last night. Also, the sheets in the bedroom were NEVER clean. There was always a some sort of stain on them and they were always discolored. This is not a fault on the cleaning staff but the Riu needs to spend the money and purchase new sheets when the old ones have been damaged. It was absolutely disgusting having to sleep in soiled sheets. There was also no privacy in the bathroom. There is no door to the actual bathroom just a door on the toilet. I will never stay at a Riu

5th trip to Mexico so we don't expect extra plush beds, nor top notch steaks. Our 2nd trip to RIU Playacar, so what we do want they provide. Which is s friendly, safe, clean place with an outstanding beach facility and really good food choices. We also like some sit down options for dinner. Changed from last time was the availability of sit down dinner service with no reservations. We did the Mexican once and Steakhouse twice and really enjoyed it. A fine dining experience, well, of course the cuts of steak leave a bit to be desired, but were very tasty. The beds are kind of standard "a bit on the hard side" throughout Mexico, but we slept very well each night. We were scheduled for two single beds, but with a tip we got a free upgrade to an outstanding room, for which I went back and doubled the original tip. Fantastic service in the buffet restaurants and on the beach where it seemed we had hourly drink service. The beaches were raked daily and the staff kept the guests from getting out of hand with the beach chairs. No problem securing chairs for our daily 7 to 8 hours of beach time. I used the Gym one day and it was well appointed. Thank you RIU - our 3rd trip to a RIU and we will be back. Oh, we also love the international aspect. There may have been 10% American, 35% European, 40% South American and a mix of others. My wife did the daily morning stretch on the beach and I did the afternoon beach dance class with the pretty South American ladies. Loads of fun.

I liked the hotel in general, the beach is perfect and the swimming pools are good but cold, for little kids is not so good. I suggest them to use white towels in the rooms, the brown is not very hygienic. They can improve the food and the service is good but the staff push you to finish quick. The animation team is regular.

would recommend to all my friends, Very helpful staff Pablo at the front desk made our stay very pleasant !!!

The food was amazing! Fresh and variety for days! Very very safe to walk around at night! Beach and pool were beautiful and clean! The shows every night were awesome! Shopping center across the street and a money exchange! I will be back and I will leave another great review! Thank you for the stay!

We had a great time in playacar. Staff was friendly and all inclusive service was awesome.

This was a week's vacation for my family, half of which live on the other coast of the US. Riu Playacar provided the best environment for a wonderful get-together and vacation for everyone, from the 7- and 10-year-old grandkids to the grandparents in the late 60's. The facilities were very well kept and the staff is without compare in their friendliness, courtesy and responsiveness. My grandson turned 10 during our stay and the manager at The Playa (the main dining area) arranged a wonderful surprise for him -- decorated a table and a bunch of the staff showed up to sing to him with claps and balloon popping, and a delicious birthday cake! It was just such a heartening experience. Then that night birthday celebrants were honored during the evening events. My grandson was called to the stage and given a souvenir (a baseball cap) and a certificate saying he joined the festivities on that night of his birthday. The ready availability of food for all our meals made life easy and the food ranged from decent to great. There was always something for everyone -- our family had all kinds: almost-vegetarians to big carnivores, from big eaters to those whose sweet tooth dominated their choices. The service was not just good, it was full of fun. The housekeepers would create animal figures with the towels tied with rubber bands.decorated with crepe flowers and surrounded with Hershey kisses. And when we had a problem with the safe, someone came at almost midnight to help!

Unfortunately more cons than pros at this all inclusive hotel. Would not stay here again. The food was decent and rooms were clean. We called for extra blankets which never came. It took me 4 calls and finally a convo with the manager to get bottled water to the room. The kids club is a small room that is stuffed with kids and the supervision was questionable. In fact I never left my little one there because the check in and out was way too relaxed. They said the kids can just leave and go find their parents. The water temp in the pool was so hot that a dip would not cool you in the summer heat. If you needed a new towel they would not replace them.

Excellent facility made friends with the staff this is Our third year in a row

RIU Playacar is a great hotel! I loved having access to other RIUs in Playacar too. The staff and drink service is top notch. The pools face the beach and accessing the beach is super easy.

Favorite resort in Playa so far! Rooms are nice and clean! Food is amazing and the staff is very friendly! The entertainment was also best we have seen! Defenitely will be staying here again!

Hotel was very nice for the area. Staff was great. Flawless vacation really besides the food can get repetitive. Would be very easy for families. Budget to eat a few authentic meals in town some where. Check in was slow in getting a room but you can go drink or eat while you wait. You could never eat or drink enough while staying here! Always some thing available. Nightly entertainment was an unexpected plus!

Nice property this the redo. We have stayed here three times now. They do a good job and pay attention to the details.
