Room was large, clean, although old and needs updating cosmetically. The non-smoking room appeared to be on a non-smoking floor and no cigarette odor was present. Bed was comfortable. All employees I encountered were very pleasant and all requests were courteously handled. Don't get a room near the elevator in the Empress Tower. I had to move my room (which was easily done) due to the very loud elevator noise. Water was heated quickly. Towels were good. Food was unexpectedly good, especially at Mel's Diner and the coffee shop.

really enjoyed the pool party on Labor Day! was disappointed in waiting over a half hour at the bell desk for help with my luggage. No one ever showed up. I had to take my luggage up myself after wasting my time waiting. I waited after the Return expected time indicated on the desk to no avail. Room was clean and comfortable , shower was nice and hot! but towels can use an upgrade. Mexican food in hotel was excellent! excellent location, walking distance to other hotels, museum, river walk

Hotel had easy parking, close to the river, lot's of restaurants and other hotels.

About 3 blocks away from Virginia Street. Rooms were larger than expected, but furniture is old. Great restaurant on sight, Mel's Diner. Checkin was more efficient than expected. Limited parking, but it was Hot August Nights.

The hotel is dated, but I guess you get what you pay for. When you check in, you'll get charged a roughly $15 resort fee to cover things like, "the pool, internet, and the hotel shuttle" according to the person at the front desk. There's a sign in the elevator warning you that you'll be charged for the cost of rescuing you if the thing breaks down while you're in it. That's a first for me. The place isn't bad, it just always they haven't invested much in it for a while.

Great staff, friendly and helpful! Was reasonably priced and room was very comfortable!

Staff efficient, courteous. room clean but noisy from mutiple noises including fans outside window. bathroom sink faucet difficult to use with poor hot cold and volume adjustments. tub okay to use but took 6 minutes to get warm water for shower.

Definitely not a terrible experience. We had no blankets or soaps in our room, but was quick to get them to the room. The free airport to casino ride ends at 1130pm, was about a $25 dollar unexpected cab ride. Friendly staff. The streets are pretty rough at night, I'm glad we didn't park a car outside. Probably would have rather spent the extra few dollars to stay in a little nicer of a place but was not the worst hotel I've stayed in. Rooms were clean so that's always a plus.

Arrived at 1pm we were told check in was at 3, when check in time came along they didn't have enough staff the line was all across the casino and they still did not have the rooms ready. There is no lobby, it smells horrible as soon as you walk in, the room was only cleaned the day of arrival, the whole hotel is outdated you would think they would invest in bettering the rooms. There are a lot of homeless around, to get to the pool you have to walk across the parking lot. The staff was rude, never staying there again, first and last. Oh yeah and the buffet was not good, the waiter never asked us for our drink order and never checked in for refills worst service ever.

Dated but rooms were clean and everyone one was friendly

Facilities not well maintained, leaking plumbing, HVAC needed repair

This hotel has a huge bed bug problem. I was bitten 4 times. Twice on my right arm once on my left arm and once on top of my right ear . Called house keeping to clean up my room because i went to breakfast. This was around 10am saturday. Came back to my hotel room around 1:30pm room did not get cleaned. So i took it upon myself to clean it. Didnt even bother calling house keeping again. My room number was 1444 that i stayed in. I've stayed at this hotel many times before and this a first for me to have these experiences with this hotel. Unfortunately i dont recommend this hotel to anyone or would i stay there again simply cause of the bed bugs and the way house never came to my room to clean it up. But the bed bugs situation needs to be addressed asap before someones child gets bitten by these bed bugs. That is very unsanitary for a hotel.

No shower curtain when i arrived in my room, Simple fix called desk and within 15 mins we had one..Other than that room was great. Sands isnt a great casino i wouldnt even say its a good one.. dead vibe.all but one dealer seemed uninterested in their job.. Just took a taxi ride down to peppermill and gsr for gambling If youre looking for a place to stay with clean rooms though at a fair last minute price sands is the place. Mels diner is a plus too great hangover food!

Very outdated, smoky inside and the rooms were hot the air conditioners do not work. Water pressure was so low to shower

The staff was rude. The bed was terrible and the buffet was a complete waste of money. They didn't advertise it was seafood only and NOTHING else. We don't eat seafood. When checking out she never even looked up from her computer and acted like I bothered her. I DO NOT recommend this hotel! I will not be going back!

I felt like I was in a bad movie where the character ends up in the worst hotel possible! We were put in a room next to the elevator where it felt like you were in the mechanical area and needed earplugs. There was no drowning it out. Then the window looked out to the entire ventilation system for the building and looked like something out of the industrial revolution! Greasy dirty and stinky! Plus the pipes clanked together all night! Then the room itself! Smoke detector was pulled out of the ceiling the carpet was nasty the bathroom was nasty and the tub had broken faucets! This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had! And I used to stay in a lot of nasty places when I was on the road for work. I would NEVER stay here again. I didn't sleep and ended up leaving at 5 am. I wish I had just slept in my car. I didn't even shower because I would have felt more filthy by getting in that nasty shower. I had a 2 year old and my pregnant wife with me and honestly felt terrible having them in that place. I would not have been happy paying $5.00 for it much less $120.00!

Someplace I'll never go again. I did win $10 though. There are too many hotels and casinos in Reno to settle on price. Lesson learned...

Not familiar with the area so was very disappointed by the smokey environment. The non-smoking room was smokey! We checked out and went to The Peppermill which was fantastic! I lost 20 bucks in the machine for bottled water and they wouldn't reimburse me.

My room was 413, next to elevators. The room was clean and roomy. My complaint was that I could hear the elevator all night long. Hotel was sold out so they couldn't reassign me and they didn't offer any options.

The hotel is old, and needs a renovation badly. Their ventilation system is poor, so the entire place including the non smoking areas have that stench from cigarettes. My wife and daughter woke up with hair smelling like smoke in non smoking room, on a non smoking floor. The Copa restaurant is fantastic, good prices, excellent service and great food. The buffet was closed at 9pm when we returned from the volleyball tournament and so was Copa, so all that was left to eat at was the fast food style Mexican restaurant and Mels. We chose Mels, that was a mistake. The staff was very friendly the entire stay. My daughter did notice that inside the HVAC vent, there was an unopened condom sitting inside it, on the bright side at least it was not opened.
