We stopped for the night at this location because my son had a college visit at NC State the next day. The elevator did not work properly, the carpet was severely stained and the toilet ran most of the night. At about 4:30 a.m. the person next door turned their TV on and we heard it the rest of the night. The walls were paper-thin. The front desk was nice and the bed was comfortable. I would probably try somewhere else though given the conditions.
We chose to stay here after a concert in the area. We booked out about 4 months & glad we did as it, as everything else, was sold out. The front desk ladies were very friendly & all smiles! The room is dated, but we look at most hotels as, we're Not moving in! The room was clean, comfortable king bed, clean shower with great water pressure. Loved that the in room air conditioner was able to chill right down after a 90 degree/humid night at the concert. Price was right. We didn't do breakfast as we slept too late....9:00 is a rather early cut off for the weekend! We saw concert goers using uber from there. We were happy & would stay again!
The Animazement anime convention was in Raleigh this past weekend. Normally I like to stay at the Cambria Suites out by RDU airport, but circumstances this year led me to choose a hotel closer to the Raleigh Convention Center. Due to an affordable rate and a current Choice Hotels points promotion, the Comfort Inn on South Saunders Street got my business. The hotel is less than two miles from the downtown area, but it is NOT walkable. However, bus route 7 runs to/from the hotel and the downtown area if you want to save money by using the hotel's free parking and not downtown parking garages. Our room was 219, with two double beds. The room was clean as far as daily housekeeping, and everything worked as it should. However, maintenance needs to do a better job at keeping things repaired. In the bathroom, the granite tub surrounds have water damage/discoloration. The tub floor has some discolored/stained spots. A chunk of tile trim in the bathroom was missing. A large crack ran across the floor underneath the sink. A piece of the wall was damaged next to one of the beds and a large stain was on the carpet near the room entrance. Soundproofing could stand to be improved; we heard our neighbors and the people staying above us for most of the night. I have to say that we had stayed the night before at another Choice property (Quality Inn in Greensboro, see that review), and although this hotel has the newer physical plant of the two, it was actually in worse condition than the older Quality Inn as far as room maintenance was concerned. On the plus side though, the bathroom was larger with most, with the added luxury of plenty of counter space. Beds were comfortable. Wi-fi speed was decent. Microwave and refrigerator were included, though the fridge had a large chunk of frost/ice buildup and probably needs to be defrosted. Hot breakfast in the morning was good, but seemed to lack in variety of bread items (no plain bagels, for instance.) They alternate between bacon and sausage patties as the meat of choice. Staff we encountered were all friendly and helpful, and assisted us in keeping our belongings in storage (we arrived in Raleigh at around 6:30 in the morning.) The Comfort Inn near downtown Raleigh offers fairly good accommodations at a value rate. Although a bit worse for wear, the rooms are cleaned well and are comfortable, the staff is very helpful, and the breakfast is good. Maintenance needs to go through and check rooms, though, and get some of the damage repaired. There were more than a few issues for what doesn't appear to be that old of a building.
Refusing to refund an over charge. Checked out a day earlier than booked. It was a late check out and the extra day was paid. However, the hotel charged for the unused day anyway. You cannot get anyone at the hotel to answer the phone. Choice hotels Customer Service refuses do to do anything because the decision to refund is up to the individual hotel manager who is essentially incommunicado! I only discovered the discrepancy when I was going over my Credit card statement. Will never stay at another Choice hotel brand facility again!
I stayed at this hotel recently while attending a conference downtown. It is slightly off the beaten track, although the drive was easy enough, but is not on the R line, and parking at the convention center is $7 per day. There is only one restaurant within walking distance. The hotel breakfast starts at 6 a.m. and I was glad of that. Food was hot, choices should make it possible for everyone to find something they like. The room was comfortable, but hallway carpets are worn and dirty. I wonder why the housekeeping staff mops the tile floors of the dining area in the morning. Seems to me to be a safety hazard. Wouldn't it be better to mop after guests leave for their daily activities? My room had dust piled up in the corners, where the vacuum doesn't reach, and housekeeping doesn't take a broom to it. The TV volume didn't go high enough to be heard over the air conditioner. But the bed was comfortable and the room was comfy. Check in and out is easy.
Nice place for extended stay. We took room with kitchen. Location is good, staff is friendly. Not too premium, but served our purpose. You can get public transport bus from place very near to it. There are no foot path connecting, so you need car.
I was looking a budget place to stay before an early next day flight and the location was good right off the interstate. The staff at check in was friendly and the room clean and comfortable. The breakfast not bad and overall a bargain for the price. My one complaint which would prevent me from staying again was there was NO sound deadening between the walls. The people in the next room talked for hours at what appeared to be a normal (not loud thankfully) voice level and I could have carried on a conversation with them.
Pre-booked a room at the aforementioned property. Arrived on March 4, 2017, to find a room with a damaged door, stains on the sheets, comforters and furniture. There was a stench to the room and exposed cables running along the wall to the television. The bathtub was dirty. Stains/burn marks on the drapes. I immediately went to the front desk and advised the representative of the room condition. The front desk representative offered me another room, however, the 2nd room was in worse condition than the 1st. At this time I returned to the front desk and asked for a refund. While cordial at this time, the young lady advised that the room rate was non-refundable. She advised that I could try to contact the manager on Monday morning and gave me his information on a room key cover. As I was walking away, the young lady asked me what I expected. I again, attempted to explain to her that at the very least, I expected a clean room, bed linens and bathroom. The young lady replied, "I like the rooms here. I can't afford to stay here but you were probably expecting the Ritz Carlton." The young lady went on to make comments such as, "perhaps you think you're too good to stay here" and "you know you're not supposed to sleep on the comforter at any hotel anyway, those aren't washed." I found these comments to be highly inappropriate and far from a resolution to the issue at hand. On Monday, March 6, 2017, I called customer service and opened Case Number 8718884. My request was for a refund. I spoke to three different customer service representatives who were very apologetic for my experience. I was asked to send photographs of the room condition and was told I would receive a response within 72 hours. Not having received a response, I called customer service again on Thursday, March 30, 2017. I was told that my case had been closed as the property manager had written and mailed a letter to me on March 9, 2017. The property manager alerted corporate the issue had been remedied. Unfortunately, I have not received any form of communication from the property manager to date. I advised corporate of this and their remedy was to either give me 1,000 points or $20.00 for the inconvenience. I explained this would not be satisfactory and was insulting. With the way this concern was handled I would not be comfortable staying at another Choice Hotel property in the near future. A hygiene and customer service complaint should be priority, my complaint was handled as though I was asking for an extra towel. In a final attempt to resolve the issue, the customer service representative, Aly, attempted to contact the property manager. She called three times without anyone picking up the phone. It is not good when customer service/corporate cannot contact its own property. I was told at this point that there was nothing else that could be done as customer service is corporate and there was no where to escalate the call to. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Might I add, I was traveling with a group and two other rooms were booked for Friday, March 3, 2017. Their rooms were in deteriorating condition as well.
We selected this hotel because it was easy to access from I-40 from I-95 and also easy to access I-264/I-64 east in the morning. It is not in the best area in Raleigh being near downtown. We had reserved a first floor accessible room with a roll-in shower, which we received. Breakfast serving was acceptable. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: A room with a roll-in shower needs a bench in the shower. This may be an ADA mandate. I asked at the front desk and was told no bench. We had to use the desk chair.
I arrived and was checked in by Holly. She was very friendly and got me through the checkin process quickly. I stayed for 3 nights and each night that I arrived back at the hotel, I was greeted by Holly. She really made me feel welcomed. Anyway the room was clean and the hotel was quiet during my stay. They have a hot breakfast which is nice compared to the usual continental breakfast the most hotels offer. Only 5 minute drive to downtown and there are plenty of eats down the road. I will stay here again when I pass through the area. Thank you, Holly.
