Novotel Ottawa Hotel

From the moment I entered the Novotel hotel, to the time I checked out, staff catered every need without hesitation. The facilities are top notch and extremely clean. The location of this property was situated perfectly for me to explore the heart of Ottawa within walking distance of museums, entertainment, and of course parliament. I would recommend this location for anyone looking to book a hotel in the Ottawa downtown area.

Location was fantastic. Across the street from the Rideau Centre amend Shaw Centre. A couple blocks from the Byward Market. Very convenient. Wish I had more time to spend there. Will definitely book it next year. The only minus I had is about the business computer area in the centre of the lobby. Would be nice to have stools to sit on while using the computers and a bigger work area to put papers.

Hotel was clean and what you could expect from a Novotel (value-priced, basic hotel). Restaurant that is attached to the hotel was VERY good. Closeby to Byward Market and Parliament Hill.

Our room was great for the two of us and we loved how close we were to everything, We just parked our car at the hotel and walked everywhere from there. There were some loose fixtures in the bathroom, the toilet paper holder and the shower door handle.

Good value. The location is great and the room is in good condition. The carpet in the hallway looks old, though. Overall, not bad for the price.

Very relaxed unadorned atmosphere, hotel is well located walk to a great many locations of interest and several restaurants. 5 minutes to the Byward market

I was there for business and conducting a seminar in one of their conference rooms. The front desk & conference staff are among the most friendly and helpful people that I have encountered. As a guest using the restaurant I found the service staff there to be much below the level of service offered by the rest of the Novotel staff.

This hotel has an excellent location in Ottawa Proper. Easy on and off the highway and a quick 2 min walk to everything downtown. Rideau Center is just across the street. The hotel staff is fantastic and super responsive. Simply put, there is no better cocktail bar than the in-hotel Albion Room, Steph, Corey, John, Erin, Sarah, Michael, Jackie, Talia, Gabby and Nevin keep the Old Fashioneds coming... Only downside is the neighboring homeless mission means lots of petty crime. Don't leave anything in your car!

We had a great time, staff was very helpful - Ottawa is a beautiful city and definite plans to return.,

Hotel is nice overall. Front desk staff were good. We were welcomed by staff member named Majid who gave us a very pleasant welcome and some good advice for places to eat downtown. Location is great, Byward Market, Rideau Centre and pretty much anywhere downtown is walking distance so it was very convenient for us. The only negative thing that happened during our stay was that the cleaning staff forgot to clean our room one day but the front desk manager was very professional in dealing with the situation so I commend the establishment for their conduct with guests. The cleaning staff's mistake was probably isolated and not likely to be a regular occurrence at this hotel. Based on our experience, I would recommend Novotel - downtown Ottawa.

Great hotel! Lovely restaurant and staff. Also loved the decor! Central location, very close to Rideau Centre.

If you want to be able to just step out your door and go, then this is a great spot. We were right across from the Rideau Shopping centre, 1.5 blocks from the Byward Market (great bakery), and a great selection of restaurants. Easy walk to Parliament, the canal, Art Gallery etc. The King Bed was super comfy! The only thing I would change would be having a minifridge in the room.

On a business trip and ideal location, easy check in, friendly efficient staff. The room was spotlessly clean.and I liked the modern decor. Everything about the accommodation was excellent. The downside was the breakfast. Too few seats so unless ate between 6.30 and 7.30 couldn't find a table. Of the three day stay managed breakfast twice and the other morning turned away but found a diners few blocks away. Overall good experience and priced accordingly.

While enjoying a glass of wine, one of the bartenders made an anit-gay comment, evidently directed at me. It made me quite uncomfortable so I quickly paid and left. Otherwise, this is a nice hotel. The rooms are clean and modern with all amenities. You can walk from the hotel to the art museum, a park with walking paths, shops and restaurants. The front desk staff and waitress in the restaurant were friendly and professional.

Perfect location to see that nations captial and to see the life of Ottawa

We stayed at the hotel for two nights. All of the staffs are very friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The location is perfect. We really recommend this hotel.

I booked a room at the Novotel Ottawa for two nights to attend and present at a conference at the nearby convention center. The conference housing was either booked up or out of my price range, so the Novotel offered value and convenience. I felt that the reviews were mostly positive although perhaps one or two said it was dated. In any case, arrival was a hugely pleasant surprise! The room was almost like a very well-laid-out mini apartment! There was lots of nicely used space, with built-in wood closets and desk, armchairs, lots of convenient lamps, etc. Considering many of the other conference goers were staying at un-air-conditioned dorms, I felt incredibly lucky and spoiled. The staff I worked with were incredibly friendly and helpful, and although I never saw the cleaning staff come and go, the room was kept immaculate. I did not try the onsite dining or fitness center/pool and can't comment on those specifically. Other pluses were the free wireless internet and convenient below-ground parking. Another thing I noticed was the relative lack of noise, considering my room was near to the elevator, and that it was a weekend. I really didn't hear other guests. As far as location, the Novotel is very centrally located by the convention center, Byward Market, and Parliament buildings. The only comment I have on the location is that although it was only about a 1.5-2 block walk to the convention center, the most direct route was to take a shortcut through a parking garage/underpass, which wasn't particularly scenic, although it didn't feel unsafe. It was a bit of a pain lugging my booth display materials over there, and in general I didn't have an offer to help carry luggage to my room, although some carts were handily sitting around by the garage and in the lobby. Overall, I was thrilled with the value, quality, and location of the Novotel, and will check out this chain again.

Located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, just blocks away from fine dining and shopping. Very clean and modern. Rooms are well furnished and clean! No funky odors. Pros: Free wireless, shoe polisher by the elevator Cons: Small flatscreen tv (approx 30 in), no brand-name lotion/soaps.

Centrally located and an easy walk to Byward Market. Great pool and kids eat free in the hotel for breakfast. Breakfast buffet was great. Saved alot booking through [...].

As of Oct 2010, hotel still undergoing lobby renovation, which makes the entrance practically a hard-hat area. My room was rather dark, only one lamp. And it was fluorescent lighting, rather than the more pleasing traditional incandescent. Walls/doors are thin, other travellers' noise will wake you up. Biggest disappointment is that, for this price, you don't get a complimentary breakfast. Pool is shared with next-door Les Suites Hotel, as is garage space, which is operated by a third party. Garage costs $15 per day. Tip: get an unlimited vehicle re-entry card from hotel clerk. Warning: hotel is right next to major tourist attraction, but also next to homeless mens' charity mission. Thus, lowlifes congregate all around, and have no qualms about asking you for spare change. That's not the hotel's fault, just pointing it out. I thought being this close to Bymarket would be a great advantage, but it's not something to overrate. Ottawa is very walkable. I can't say I had a terrible time, but nonetheless I'd try a different hotel next time.
