As Marriott rewards members we tend to only stay at a Marriott property when at all possible. We reserved this location for a last minute spring break trip as we stayed here several years ago without issue. As a rewards member you are able to make requests via your profile for any stay. We always request extra pillows, towels and a higher floor. When we arrived we were placed in a first floor room as not everything was clean and that’s all they had. Okay, higher floors aren’t always possible. We went to our room and immediately were overwhelmed with a wet dog type odor going down the hall. This didn’t improve in our room unfortunately. My son sat down on the couch and was covered in dog hair when he got up. I respect people having their dogs in hotels but isn’t the extra cleaning involved why a pet fee is charged? In looking closer at the couch there was dog hair all over. We immediately went out and purchased a lint roller and an oil diffuser to offset the odor. We literally used half of the lint roller sheets on the couch. My husband then just to see rolled the floor....gross. There was also dog and human hair on the “clean” sheets. That evening we requested our room be vacuumed and as I explained why to the front desk person she looked at me with a blank stare and replied “okay, thanks”. What??? It didn’t make sense. We slept with the windows open every night to offset the odors in the room. So much for the extra towels too. This room slept 6 with the sofa bed and we reserved for 4. There were 3 towels. When we requested more they sent us one towel. And despite us leaving a note about towels with a daily tip no more than 3 towels were ever left. One of the days no washcloths were left at all. The front desk person then decided to question were there really some in the room. Breakfast was a free for all as usual but they were constantly running out of everything. By the time clean plates were provided the eggs were gone. And the staff was not the least bit friendly. There was never enough seating so one morning we took breakfast back to our room. We left the dishes neatly stacked on a tray for the housekeeper to remove along with a tip. The tip was taken, the dishes however remained. The ceiling in the bathroom appeared to have been repaired from maybe a leak but never painted. The toilet leaked at the base. The faucet handle at the bathroom sink almost fell off when you turned it on. The pool, which was open, was filthy. The hotel desperately needs repairs especially for the rate they charge. We will never stay in this location again and now feel we need to be more wary of Marriott hotels in general.
My third year staying here for a nearby ultramarathon. Sarah L helped with my room on the first floor by the exit, helps post 50 miler when everything hurts and youre too sore to walk far. Love the proximity to the race start, the outlet mall, various places to eat and the airport. Great staff, especially when I screwed up my CC info and then left the card at home, and they had to manually enter my information. Also friendly engineering staff when I accidentally set off my room's smoke alarm when I was cooking my dinner. Great breakfast options and upgraded laundry machines! Love this place and I already booked it for next years race.
Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed just one night. Clean and comfortable room. Shuttle service to the colosseum was a great help. Can't say enough about how great the front desk folks were. Will stay here again.
During my recent stay at this Marriott I was less than satisfied. As someone who stays in hotels 100 or more nights a year during my travels, I typically write a review when the place is great or if it's particularly offensive. This Marriott fell short of the minimum standard for a comfortable stay because of the staff. During my two day stay the room was not serviced, which is usually an easy fix, but not in this case. When I asked if the room would be serviced, the house keeper gave me a blank stare for a solid minute or two then pointed at a water bottle in confusion. Bizarre? I looked for another housekeeper and once I did find one she assured she'd let the housekeeping staff on floor 3 know, which didn't occur. On the next morning, the do not disturb sign was ignored two hours prior to check out by the same housekeeper. I let her know that I'd be checking out and she left--- only two minutes later come back into the room shaking the locked door, but saying nothing. Again bizarre. As a side note, the breakfast was limited and the hotel is early 2000s design- not my favorite but no deal breaker. In my opinion, this hotel falls below most Marriott hotels I've stayed in and I would not recommend it.
James at the front desk was very sweet, Alex was a bit rushed but polite. The rooms were very clean and the laundry though far to walk to was excellent and takes credit cards not just quarters. But the breakfast was very disappointing. Runs out of food half way through, no fruit, no yogurts, no oatmeal, no breads, no juice, milk low, eggs were older and crusty, only thing they refilled was the sausage and biscuits. Very disappointing. Coffee was not good either (very watered down). Either do the 6 am breakfast when stuff first comes out or plan for breakfast out somewhere else if you are a later riser like us. The front desk here does offer coupons for local attractions.
This hotel is convenient to just about everything. The staff was awesome. Chontay, Deshawn and Lynda were awesome. Made my stay great. They were always there to assist. The bed was very comfortable and the room was good. I had absolutely no issues. If I go back to Charleston I will definitely stay here. Great for long or short stays and with the kitchen it's nice to not eat out all the time.
We usually like staying at Residence Inn but this hotel I was not impressed. Our room was dirty and also had cockroaches. Not really what I expect to see in a Marriott property!!! They need to work on their cleanliness. The location of the hotel is good. Easy freeway access. Probably won't stay here again.
I always stay at this property. Great staff and location. I run a local ultra every February and it is less than 30 minutes from the course. There is Bonefish grill across the street or a BBQ joint about a 5 minute drive. There is an outlet mall about 10 minutes away for last minute running gear at Nike, UA or a Bass Pro Shop. The staff are always helpful and accommodating especially when I need a first floor room to avoid the stairs or elevator post race.
This upscale-looking hotel is located at a somewhat busy intersection. If International is busy, there are two other ways to get into the free, shaded lot. A very pleasant young man checked us in an provided restaurant information for us. Hotel is pretty and clean. We had a corner room on the third floor, which was amazingly quiet. Breakfast was typical of nicer chains, with eggs/ready-made omelettes, biscuits, gravy, sausage patties, waffles, fruit, pastries, breads, cereals, drinks. We made a grab-n-go sausage biscuit. Evening snacks/drinks are offered a few nights during the work week. Our Monday offerings were some craft beers, light beers, wine, hummus, bread, cheese. The pool is outside in a lovely courtyard. We had a king room, bed and pillows were comfortable. No bedside table on one side and we both need such for eyeglasses, water, a c-Pap machine, so we jury rigged one from the luggage rack and a drawer. Love having the separate bedroom. The hot water was immediate and the a/c adequate. comfortable space, some restaurants are in walking distance. Only downside was having to walk through smokers as we entered through the side door from the parking lot.
Made a last minute reservation when we decided to evacuate ahead of hurricane irma. They were the only pet friendly hotel with available room. Hotel was packed with evacuees. Many families with children and pets. Manager called in extra staff to deal with mass influx of out of town evacuees. Kudos to all those who braved high winds and flooded streets to assist. Despite the overload of guests the hotel staff did a great job of staying cool, calm, smiling while keeping the place running smoothly. Free breakfast buffet had plenty of hot food for all. Extra towels, blankets and sheets were readily available. All the vending machines and the small food shop were restocked often. Hotel even waived their usual $100.00 pet cleaning charge. All rooms have kitchenette, 2 burner stove... microwave... fridge... toaster... utensils and plates. Would definitely come back.
