They have the best beach in Playa del Carmen. The Mexican & Italian restaurant were excellent. Very clean and beautiful property. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Pros: Great beach experience. Good water and beach was cleaned every day. Cons: I developed food poisoning (travelers diarrhea) Both of my two young kids developed Hand Foot Mouth disease from the pool. We spoke to at least 5 other couples that had the same issue. If you go definitely avoid all the pools or pick a different resort. When we told staff they did not want to do anything about it. Also the resort shuttles you back and from the beach but the wait times are too long and walking is 15min.

Beaches were filled with seaweed. Most of the staff is not friendly, does not smile. Royal Elite signs made me feel like a second class citizen at the resort, because there were areas that we were not allowed to enter. The food was disappointing and sometimes nasty, There were not enough golf cars to shuttle guests, we ended up waiting for a very long time. Not much activities there, gets boring after a day. I couldn't go on the waterslides with my kids. Adults are not allowed. Pool by the beach was warm and murky and cloudy, felt dirty. Room service menu was very limited and again there was a separate menu section for the "Royal Elites" that I couldn't order from, that made me feel like a second class citizen again. Cockroach was found in my bathroom. Centipede was found on my bed. Lice in my daughter's hair. And my son contracted hand foot mouth disease.

Wifi was unreliable. When notified staff regarding the issue didn’t get a solution, basically was told to give it time.

Food was gross and I definitely do not feel like I had authentic Mexican food that everyone kept raving about. The power outages are awful and the lack of cups to hold fresh water or any sort of cold beverage is disturbing, sort of like a prison. Pools feel like large toilets. Where I am from we use pools to cool off and we use hot tubs for 95 degree and up water. At sandos there is no need for hot tubs as they have hot pools. My room was between two rooms filled with nothing but children, and my room change never came so I listened to kids play and scream until 3am every night. The resort shows were garbage. I spent way too much money to feel like part of some human cattle show. Oh and management will just fluff you and tell what you want to hear, no action will be taken ever. THIS PLACE IS GARBAGE. I will NEVER spend another dollar at a sandos resort.

The food was great! This resort has been around for a while, they are in the process of remodeling the resort. Most of the restaurants, bars and lounges have been remodeled, the current rooms are a little dated but still nice and clean. The new room buildings are almost complete The beach area is really nice and clean, the beach itself is absolutely beautiful, turquoise clear water! My main 2 drawbacks were the dated rooms and there’s not a whole lot to do after 8pm There’s a theater that has shows running until around 11 then 2 bars open until 2am But there’s no life after 8pm near the beach

The frequency of the shuttle. needs to be increased.

We arrived on 6/28/19 and there is a security checkpoint to get to the resort. The security officer confiscated our ID and asked that we return with the resort bracelet after checking into the resort and retrieve it. Our group was in two different cabs and only one of our cars had that problem. When we arrived at the front desk we were livid. Why was our ID from the United States taken? We spoke with the front desk attendant Maria and she basically said it’s not the resorts problem, security is separate from the resort. We argued with her that it was ridiculous to say something like that when passing through security is a requirement to get to the resort. We even spoke to her supervisor Renato and he was even less helpful. They refused to have even a golf cart driver take us back the TWO miles to retrieve the ID. The cab driver charged us $12 to do that. These people are crooks and their story is not consistent. Why should this procedure be at our expense?! The security desk who confiscated the ID could not explain why the ID was taken from one of us even after we showed our reservation and not the other car. The driver we were with even said that had never happened to him before. The security desk even confirmed that there are other resorts within the area for which they are not allowed to confiscate IDs why is Sandos Playacar Beach Resort allowing for their guest to be extremely inconvenienced and then not even offering to drive us back? Wont be going back they are scammers

There is no warning on Orbitz or on the Hotel site that this property is inside a large gated community area. We had 7 family members with us so we had to go in 2 separate taxi cars. The main gate security asked for our reservation confirmation and ID card from only one person per car. She then took my ID and placed it infront of a camera and gave it back. However for the taxi car my sister was in she took my sisters ID and said she would get it back once she checked into the hotel and got the resort bracelet. The hotel front desk attendant Maria and her supervisor Renato were beyond unhelpful to us. They could not explain why that happened or how we could return to get her ID. They really could not have cared less that we were in this situation. And told us they could not help get us back to the font gate to get her ID back. They did not have the number to the front gate to call them to ask why they did this. They also said we had to get a taxi to and from the main gate at our own expense to get her ID back. They said they were aware this happens and could not help us. So my sisters and my boyfriend had to pay a taxi to take her back to the front gate and then back to the hotel. $12 round trip. When my sister confronted the guard as to why she took her ID and not anyone else's she got nervous and was shuddering and called her supervisor. He also could not explain why they they took her ID. We later found out the resort had free bikes. Why were we not offer3d them?

I really liked all the inclusive resources that Sandos Playacar provided us. The facilities (bathroom, outdoor foot showers, cafe, pools, etc) were all nice, and the beach itself was beautiful. Also, riding the golf cart back and forward to the beach was the best option for us. We enjoyed every single minute we stayed in this resort. We have no negative opinion about our stay at this resort.

you are posting very deceiving pictures. The sand in the beach is not white and the ocean is not longer light blue. it is all brown with seaweeds!!! I deserve a full refund from your company.

For Your Information our swimming pools are checked chemically several times per day and cleaned on a schedule in accordance with International Hygiene Standards. It is common for travelers to get dehydrated and then blame stomach issues on the food. As we have around 2000 different guests every week, should there ever be an issue on the resort, it would present itself through reports of at least 5% to 10% of the Guests. We have had NO reports as such and can only conclude that any health issues your family had were obtained elsewhere. We thank you for reaching out to us and we wish your family a speedy recovery.
