Glad to be home.
The location of rhis rental was great. The unit itself, in my opinion, shouldn't have been rented out. I had to call the office twice for repairs (hot water heater and outside light not working). Both were electrical issues. Sometimes things happen and to their credit the staff was quick to respond both times. However, the floors were extremely slanted and walking on floor was bouncy. They just put new flooring LVP over a rotten floor. There was a mystery electrical cord coming out from sink sprayer hole to be plugged into a wall outlet. Weird, seemed very unsafe. Many of the dishes in the cabinets were not clean (dried food) and dishwasher was really old and gross on iside. Rest of appliances were newer and worked fine. Furniature was slapped together piecemeal and couch was very uncomfortable and kitchen table shakey due to unlevel floors. The essentials to get us started (trashbag etc) were not there. Black laundry bag they said to put linens in wasn't there. Towels they provided (in plastic wrap indicating they were clean) had human hairs on them. Had to go to store and buy everything. Floors were dirty, kitchen counter was bubbled up due to water damage or not enough glue. The front decking needed attention. Old boards, nails lifted, uneven boards spindles loose falling off. You could tell it was being rented while renovations were taking place. That floor is a real issue. Again, office and maintenance staff were very nice and helpful.

Could Use Improvement
Upon first arrival, we were thrilled with the location and the condo itself. As the week wore on, issues seemed to constantly arise. First thing Monday morning was jack hammering the concrete pad immediately under our unit. This continued for the better part of the day, and throughout the whole week. We did reach out to the property manager to be told they were unaware of the obviously scheduled work. They were in the process of replacing and repairing the pylons holding the unit up, so this obviously had to be planned.
While the unit was pretty clean, the kitchen was a problem. I learned upon check-out that it is the responsibility of the renters to make sure the dishes were clean. When I went to grab pots and pans to cook, there was literally caked on eggs and other stuff on the pans. Maybe that would explain the smell in the cabinet with all of the pots and pans, which made me not want to use anything without washing them all first. Then, on day 4, we discovered the ants in the kitchen by discovering them in the bags of hot dogs and hamburger buns among other items that we then had to throw out. The unit is a second story, and the ants were on the counter-away from a window. It looks like they were coming from the electrical outlet by the coffee maker.
This was our first trip to Oak Island, and we loved it. But, we will definitely not be looking at this unit again, even though it was so close to the beach and the perfect size for us.
