Great hotel with awesome staff and really comfortable rooms!

We checked into this hotel for one night late last week. We arrived at hotel around 11:30pm and immediately from the lobby area we could see everything looked run down and shabby. The pictures of the hotel make it seem more modern and updated. It is NOT. This is, at best, a 2 star hotel. Guessing it gets a 3-star due to its solid location. Our room was in a separate building connected by a courtyard to the main building, The hallway was old and dingy and it smelled musty. Our room was tiny (also not as it appears online), old and rundown fixtures / furnishings / carpet. Bathroom was the worst - rust around the perimeter of the room, the tub, the toilet. The tub looked dirty as well. Thankfully, the bed was clean (we checked the mattress for bedbugs and were pleasantly surprised to find none.). We were going to hit the casino until we tried to use the safe only to find it was broken and wouldn't lock. We told the front desk and they didn't seem surprised and said they would hold our valuables in the managers office. No thanks. So we called it a night and got out of there first thing in the morning.

Comfortable stay, a few blocks from French Quarter. Location was definitely the hotel's biggest plus. No breakfast buffet, but they do serve warm croissants and coffee directly to your room which was super nice. Valet was expensive, but every hotel in the area charges a similar amount. Lobby was beautiful and matches pictures online, however no place to wait in case there were people ahead of you checking in or out. The room itself looked like it needed some updating, especially the bathrooms. I noticed the extra toilet paper and hairdryer were placed in a cloth bag, strange. Then I realized it was probably because the bathrooms had poor ventilation, and everything would be damp after a shower. The knobs and light fixtures were missing, and I liked the wood floors, but needed some vacuuming. I would stay again given the New Orleans charm, price and location, but if you're looking for a super modern hotel, may want to look elsewhere.

Love that we could walk to Boubon st then leave the noise behind. Ourbalony was super great to just hang out. Will return to stay at the St. James

Beautiful hotel and great location. The room was clean and staff was friendly.

We stayed to enjoy some of the Mardi Gras festivities. Great location, comfortable room, pricing was competitive with other hotels. No restaurant on site, but plenty of places to eat close by.

Convenient valet parking. Friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful coffee and croissants delivered to your room each morning.

The hotel was impossible to get to because of construction and the charge for parking is outrageous. The lobby is tiny and nowhere to sit while waiting to check in if two people are ahead of you. The elevator is the slowest I've ever been in and is so old it makes you think it's going to fall. The worst part was that upon checkout I forgot and left my Bose portable speaker in the room. I called that evening but apparently only one person has the key to lost and found and apparently it's not their policy to contact the guest if they find something in the room nor does housekeeping share this information with the front desk or manager in case the guest calls about their item. Only one reason for this policy: In case the guest doesn't realize they left their item in the room then housekeeping will keep it. Well, they gave me the runaround for almost two weeks until I finally was able to talk to a manager. Long story short the housekeeper stole my speaker and the housekeeping supervisor, named Toshiba, was in on it and tried to cover for her. The manager got to the bottom of it and fired the housekeeper that stole my speaker but I've still gone a month without my speaker and it comes in very handy because I travel a lot. I had to make a police report and now I'm going to have to wait even longer to get reimbursed. Bottom line never stay here because it's New Orleans and no telling what else those employees might do. They could call a friend to rob you when you leave.

Staff were super friendly & helpful. Room was clean & quiet. Bed was super comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Location was perfect.

The room had a very at home feeling. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Hotel is well located and walkable to most attractions and the streetcars. Room was small and clean. Walls and ceiling we're not terribly sound proof. Pool was a little dirty. Front desk staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. Breakfast is delivered to your room and ordered the night before. Hotel does not have a lot of amenities, but it's New Orleans so get out and enjoy the city.

The St. James Hotel wasn't cheap, but considering it was Mardi Gras, it was worth it. The location is great for parades and access to the FQ. The staff were very helpful and, even though it was their busiest time of the year, made everyone feel at home. The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds firm, and the air-conditioning worked well. No real complaints.

We had a great time at the St. James. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The hotel is gorgeously decorated with impressionist art and has good jazz playing. They have nice touches like bringing coffee and homemade croissants to your room. It has an elegant New Orleans feel and so we were also surprised to find it so affordable. Highly recommend.

An old hotel that fits with the theme of the tourist (old French) neighborhood. Though it is located on the outskirts of the French Quarter, it's definitely walk-able. The staff are atypically friendly and helpful. We didn't find our rooms small, as some other guests have commented before. If anything, the ceilings are high and the room definitely had the fresh and airy feel to it. We had huge windows overseeing the backyard with the pool and some seating. The room service for breakfast was quite nice, although it would be great to have breakfast on a whim, rather than at a set time (even though you may choose the time window for delivery). The hotel rooms are nearly not as noisy as some that I have seen before, so you will likely get a restful night after all the partying you have had on Bourbon street. Other areas of the hotel are just an eye candy, the halls speak of its history and boast the decor from the bygone era.

We stayed at this hotel for Jazz Fest and really enjoyed its proximity to bars and restaurants.

Even though it was in the middle of a re-model, it was incredibly comfortable and the greatest staff. My hat is off to this hotel and I will stay there again most definitely

The room was very nice for the price. The decor in the lobby felt really warm and comfortable. Everything was kept in order and the staff was very helpful. I wouldn't mind staying here again.

The room was small. Air conditioner didn't work. It was 85+ degrees in our room. No ceiling fan. Front desk said that they would bring us a box fan for the inconvenience, which was never brought up. The windows didn't open at all. Then they had the nerve to call my room at 1am, telling us to keep it down, right after I got off the phone with them about the heat issue. The pool looked like nothing more than a filthy green swamp, where everyone went to go smoke. The location is decent, but after walking the main strip, we found PLENTY of nicer places for even less money. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

Honestly, my experience here was good - it's close enough to the festivities of Mardi Gras, but away from some of the more crowded areas. Room was nice, even if I could hear every word from the hallway (it's NOLA - I don't expect complete peace and quiet). If you're driving your own car, though, I'd recommend parking yourself the valet takes 20-30 minutes to retrieve your car, and the actual valet rate may come in higher than they quote you if there's an event. It's not much money, but even a few bucks feels dirty when the staff has already told you a different number.

This is a great little hotel. clost to the Quarter, but away from the congestion and noise. the hotel has retained the Old New Oleans charm but been updated with beautiful style. Not the least of the charm is that they deliver a free continental breakfast right to your door each morning. And if you are around for more than one night you have the advantave of a microwave and fridge in your room. The only drawback might be the lack of a fitness room---I did not see one, though I did not look very hard!

Mr. James, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent experience. While I would like to touch on all of your points, I am limited to the amount of characters that I can use. I do apologize if there was construction beyond our control that was an inconvenience. Due to our location in the Central Business District, parking can be difficult. Therefore, we contract with a 3rd party to be able to provide this service for our guests. Our elevators were renovated last year and maintenance is performed every month to ensure they are in proper working condition. In regards to the unfortunate matter of the Bose speaker, we do take these matters VERY seriously. We are a boutique hotel with a small staff which does make it difficult to reach out to every guest that leaves something behind. It is our policy to record all items that have been left and keep them in a locked, lost and found closet for up to 1 year. This is the policy of most hotels. Toshiba is the St. James Hotel's Housekeeping Manager and I can assure you that she was not involved in some type of cover up regarding your speaker. We did conduct an investigation that uncovered that a new houseman had gone into the room after check out to strip the beds and lied about it. This is means for immediate termination and why we perform investigations. I know that it can seem time consuming and we do apologize for that. However, we want to make sure that all information is accurate when terminating an employee. Furthermore, a police report is required insurance for purposes to reimburse you. As you discussed with our AGM, Rocky, we will fully reimburse you as this was 100% the hotel's fault. While we cannot change what has happened, we are trying to rectify the situation as best we can now. Thank you for your time and I appreciate your patience. Best, Jennifer Dragna, GM
