We loved our stay at the Pontchartrain Hotel. The friendly staff really made our experience, but the rooms are comfortable and clean, with large bathrooms. We also loved the rooftop bar and the food was great. Wish we had more time to use the streetcar to tour the area; the brief time we rode it, it was a fun way to see the area.

Well past it’s hayday
Room smelled very moldy/musty. My allergies acted up and got progressively worse during my stay. Carpet did not appear clean and surfaces were dusty through our stay. Clock was set wrong, toiletries and coffee missing (had to ask every day) and safe was locked. Bathroom was super basic and shower head kept falling. Front desk doesn’t answer and I had to get dressed and go down at 2:00 AM to get the WiFi password. I messaged the property twice in the days leading up to our arrival requesting the two twins be combined to a king so we could have two large beds. I received no response whatsoever. After several attempts to call I was told it was not possible. A Response to my requests before the cancellation period would have been greatly appreciated as this was important to us. When I checked in I was offered a downgrade and encouraged to look at the double room instead. My daughter needs her own room to study in so I turned it down and the gentleman at the front desk (who was very nice) asked if I was sure. Upon checkout when I mentioned the mold/mustiness, front desk person did not seem surprised and did not react at all. Also, the bars are very active and the one working elevator was not available at night as a result. Given the large number of people coming in and out, we didn’t feel safe because key access was not required for room floors so anyone could just linger around. The stairwell was well lit but would rather not had to take it.

Great old hotel. These hotels can be difficult to maintain and that seemed to be true here. One of the two elevators was out of order making for longer wait times to get to the rooftop bar or our 11th floor room and the faucets in our bathroom needed repair. The staff was excellent, although the doormen always seemed more interested in their phones than greeting guests. Kerry at the front desk and Hampton in the bar were both fantastic. A Streetcar stop was right out the front door making transportation to other parts of the city super easy. The Garden District is very walkable from the hotel. Glad we stayed here. Had a really good time.

Great location. Hotel has great staff. The actual hotel has a lot of ‘character’. Needs some updating. Neither elevator was working. Tough when on the 8th floor with luggage. Still a great time though.
