Everything was great when we first arrived--friendly staff, clean, great service--until we got back at our room at 10:45 pm after dinner and the key would not work. The green indicator light turned on, but the door was broken and just wouldn't open. An "engineer" arrived to try to get it open, and he couldn't get it either. It was getting quite late, and still, no one could get it open. This had "never" happened before, we were told. We waited in the empty lobby for a while, then were given access to the room next door to ours and were told we could sleep there, but obviously had no belongings, as they were all in the inaccessible room next door. We had to wake up at 6 am for a flight the next day, so this was incredibly frustrating. Finally, at 1 am, they managed to get the door open. This was 2 hours of wasted time. For $241/night, something like this should not have happened. The next morning, the only thing they could do to "credit" us, was to waive the parking fee, and the $10.28 "hotel fee". The $241 was still charged, and there was "nothing" they could do because it was booked through a 3rd party--Orbitz. This is definitely not Orbitz's problem, so the hotel should've found a way to make things right. Ideas, since they couldn't come up with anything: credit us with a complimentary 1 night at their chain, or cut a check in the amount we paid...

Great location. Beautiful hotel. No complaints. Easy to get to the pier and restaurants. Very helpful staff.

Very nice experience, Ron from the desk gave a us a special attention for or honeymoon and was very friendly and helpful. Nice and clean room, good location in Santa Monica.

Overall very happy with our short stay Staff were great. Apollo was very good at his job and Julie was an excellent person to greet us at the desk. Our stay was comfortable food was fantastic at Cezzane for breakfast. B.L.T. was awesome. Only short star was a leak from upstairs had caused some ceiling damage and mold in our shower. 305 I'm sure they will fix making it a nice jump point for your trip.

From the time we checked in until departure everyone was helpful and nice. I had a great experience at this property. I felt at home, check in was fast- especially since I booked ahead with Orbitz. There were many comfortable, quiet places for me to do my work and take conference calls. Best of all- there were outlets accessible in a lot of places, even on the outside patio!

I put Awesome. And an error popped that said I need to put more. Really Marriott. Your Hotel is 5 Star but this website is Ridiculous.

I brought my 7 year old son here for his birthday and we had the best time swimming, biking on the beach and going on the boardwalk. The hotel is perfectly located to access all the amenities of Santa Cruz, the staff was excellent, and the room was super nice. The only down side is the extra charges: $40 for parking and $16 for Internet. I wish they just charged more for the room. But despite that I would return with the rest of my family.

Stayed at the Hotel over the weekend. The location is great and the service was wonderful. Will stay here again!

Actually this hotel is beyond my expectation. Because I read the review from website before I went there. There are good review and bad review. But when I got there. It turned out to be very good. Room is very clean and new.

My first room obviously was a smoking room (or had occupied a smoker); my second room felt next door to live ins - I heard a baby crying, father singing Spanish lullabies and several other voices. Finally the 3rd room was acceptable - quiet, great view and the staff was awesome. But I didn't like that they tried to give me a smoking room just because I booked on Orbitiz. $35/day for valet parking is so LA! Outrageous!

I stayed one night and wish I could have stayed longer! The room was nice, the pool was amazing and the beach is super close. Would definitely go back!

This was the cheapest room in Santa Monica that wasn't a two-star. The room smelt like men's cologne, which was annoying to my wife who gets migraines. This place gets four stars, however, due to its value and close proximity to everything there is to do in Santa Monica.

Our room wasn't ready until 3:45pm which was annoying. They comped what we had in the restaurant while we waited so that kind of made of made up for it. The valet and porters were friendly and helpful as was the front desk. We loved the quick access from the pool to the beach. Rooms are what you expect from a nice hotel..the staff went above and beyond which is why we would return to this JW

For what we paid for this hotel, we were EXTREMELY disappointed with the quality. Because we booked through a third party and the hotel we were given a "city view" which meant we were directly over the parking lot/valet and the street. The room was average at best, and was in no way what one would expect from a Four Star hotel. The furnishings were old, the bathroom was small, and the faucet leaked. The location was great as far as closeness to the Pier, shops, etc. We were led to believe it was "steps to the beach" but that was not really the case. The one positive was the valet and bell staff. Every interaction we had with those guys was awesome and they were extremely helpful. We should have spent a little extra and stayed at one of the ocean front hotels.

Superb location less than a bock away from the pier and ocean. The price was less than $200 a night. We enjoyed it so much they extended our stay a second night at the same price. My only complaints were the $35 a night parking, but it was definitely peace of mind when I saw the going cost of parking that was not in a parking garage. The WiFi is not free either, but that kept us outside so it wasn't a large sacrifice. Overall I would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend a stay here to anybody in the area.

We just returned from Santa Monica. What a great hotel. The staff is amazing, friendly and accomodating. When we checked in, the room was not quite ready at 3:00 so they comp'd us free drinks at the beautiful courtyard area. Nice pool, convenient to the beach, rooms spotless and concierge helpful when we wanted to rent bikes. Bartenders were also friendly. Nice robes and slippers in the room. I would definately stay here again.

When you first walk into the hotel you can definitely tell it is old. But I thought would still be nice. Then walked into the room and it really smelled. The carpet was old and everything was the bare minimum . The only nice thing in the room was the bed. The drapes are disgusting. I would definitely call this a 3 star hotel, not a four star. Everything needs to be updated. Did have ok food service . They need to keep the plants looking nicer outside

Our room was gorgeous! It was spacious with a beautiful patio and a lovely view of the beach and pier. The staff was exceptional! We will definitely return!

Um...well.. almost perfect stay.

family friendly, location supreme

Great shower!
