Wanted a cup of hot water for our baby & was charged $4, didn’t expect it for free but can’t imagine what it would have cost for a cup of tea or coffee

We stayed here on our Honeymoon 30 years ago and were pleased to find it in excellent condition 30 years later! Many things were familiar, but upgrades had occurred - especially in the surrounding area. Our check-in experience was a little concerning when the staff person couldn't find our reservation. His co-worker found it right away, however (not sure why it didn't come up in the first place) and we were quickly checked in to our room on the 7th floor - partial ocean view. We stayed 3 nights, dining in the bar twice but not really using much else of the facility. Our room had a deck with a view of the ocean. The bar food was tasty and reasonably priced. We ate breakfast in a nearby oceanside open-air restaurant. Many dining and shopping options are within easy walking distance. Parking was an add-on charge, but at $12/day not unreasonable. My only complaint was that internet access was not included in the room rate. What??? This is 2018 not 1997. I can stay in a freeway motel anywhere in the country and get free wi-fi. How can a place that charges 5 times as much possibly justify any add-on charges? When I confronted them on this the reply was "we don't have a resort fee"? So what? "Resort fees" should be illegal as they are nothing but a scam anyway.

Very nice hotel in my original hometown for the price...however the prices go way up in the Winter months...I usually go during the Summer if possible... Decent restaurant and nice bar area!

Hey! It's Hawaii in winter. What else can I add?

The night staff took great care of us. When we had concerns about the noises from the next room at 4 am, which woke us up. The security was sent out quickly and took care of the problem. Our room was oceanfront. Had a very beautiful view and sound of the waves when we slept. Love the great private lagoon. Our kids swam and snorkeled there while we were tired from the other public beaches. We had a great stay and would recommend the hotel to everyone!

The hotel is okay. If you're just looking for somewhere to sleep where you won't leave with something you didn't come with this hotel will work. Do not expect any frills or extras though, it is an old and mediocre hotel but in a good location. I would not suggest the breakfast buffet though! We tried it one day, it's overpriced for what you get and every single item was cold and gross. Huggos beside the hotel has a much better breakfast!

To start we found a condom wrapper underneath our bed and even when room service came into our room (while we had the privacy sign hanging) they didn’t throw the condom wrapper away. Besides that the pool was freezing, no jacuzzi, and the pool and lagoon both closed at 8. The bar closed at 10 during the week and 11 during the weekend, that is understandable but I went to Hawaii for my 21st birthday and was looking forward to getting a drink until at least 1am. There was no free WiFi for guests ($45 for a week of WiFi). There was no shuttle. No continental breakfast. You had to pay for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, nothing was complimentary. Ive paid less and received more from motels. For the amount we paid there should have at least been ONE complimentary service offer. The only good thing about the resort was that we felt safe and the security was very friendly. However, we would not stay here again or recommend it to any of our friends.

The rooms were very clean. They were a bit outdated but adequate. When we asked to be upgraded for a better view, we did get a view of the water that we expecred to pay for. All the balconies on this side of the resort were a bit noisy due to overlooking the kitchen exhaust fans which included the unpleasant smell. Overall the Resort is very nice and the staff were very friendly.

The Resort was at a great location with a great view of the ocean and just walking distance to all the restaurants and shops. A little disappointing that there was an additional cost to both parking and wifi. But overall, we had a good experience.

We stayed nine nights in this motel in September 2017. Our maid kept our spacious room spotless and towels and toiletries well stocked. We had a corner room which provided a beautiful side view of the ocean and the street. The grounds were beautiful and although we did not take advantage of the on-site luau, we were able to watch some of that from the pool area and it was beautiful. This Oceanside motel does not have beach access, but we enjoyed dining there Oceanside watching the sunset . all staff were friendly and efficient . This motel was originally the Hilton kona. It is older and has a certain charm. Parking was great, but you had to pay. The only reason I didn't give it five stars: no in room microwave, no beach access, thin walls , older motel. I would definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

Just home from 10 hour flight. Stayed st Royal Koan to unwind. Love the place

For a 50 year old hotel, this place is GREAT,.... Old School Hawaiian charm with a few modern conveniences. It could really use a face lift or a complete re-build. But this was my second stay and I have zero issues with the hotel. Nice staff. Close to town and Jack's Diving Locker. I'll be back,... as long as the building is up and running. Mahalo,...

The Royal Kona Resort is in a beautiful location on the beach just off Ali'i Drive. It's a formerly grand hotel that has gotten a little tired. We stayed in one of two towers flanking the main building, and our room, while mostly clean, was in need of updating. The staff was friendly, and the food at the restaurant was good. We had decent ocean views from our balcony, and we even got to watch the Luau that is held on hotel grounds without having to pay for admission. Overall, we had a nice stay.

I would like to thank managers holly keith and Derek for their help in accommodating and compensating us for the lack of food received at the luau. Also for security staff troy, for his concerns in our needs. I loved this hotel and would stay there and recommend it to anyone traveling to Hawaii.

Great Ocean View, very clean and spacious. Great hotel staff and nice restaurant. Awesome Luau at the hotel. Walking distance to bars, restaurants and shops. Nice pool and snorkeling bay in front. Great parking.

My family has been utilizing this hotel in many ways for most of my life. It's an oldie but goody, with a lot of Old Hawaii charm. Sure its rough around the edges. It has survived every storm since being built in 1968 as the Kona Hilton. This hotel is part, and really the pillar of the historic Kona town. Sits out on it's own point as a landmark not to be missed, or beacon showing you the way. It has always been quiet and layed back town, this is not Waikiki! Slower, calmer and very walkable. Its only .8 tenths of a mile from the Royal Kona Resort to the King Kam Marriot at the end of the bay. So book here, dont look to closely at what needs to be painted or touched up or remodeled. Stay here because the hotel is in the best, on the ocean location In Kona, great bar and staff. Pool and an ocean swimmable lagoon. Best views! Just relax in old hawaii and remeniss in the atmosphere of what it was like in the 60's and 70's !

This hotel needs a little love - drawers smelled musty - coffee pot needs to be replaced and the heating element was rusted and the toilet paper holder was rusted -

We knew that the resort was older, but to our surprise it had all the amenities that was needed for us to enjoy our time in Kona. It's proximity to where all the action is in Kona was perfect for everyone who came to attend a friends wedding. I just wish there was a sandy beach on the property. A short fixed our fix on a nice beach.

Everyone was super kind and accommodating. And I loved the view

I feel the hotel needs a new make over to keep up in 2017 it's real old feeling
