Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel & Conference Centre4.0 out of 5.0

As the title suggest, one night in this venue was enough for us to decide we would not return. The room was small, uncomfortable and felt grubby. The beds are too small for two people to sleep comfortably. We visited the restaurant for dinner upon our evening arrival and breakfast before our morning flight. On both occasions the food was merely passable and the staff ambivalent at best. Thank you, but no thank you.
The hotel works and will get you a good night's sleep. But given the price and the brand I expected more. Let's start with the webpage: the hotel is nearly 3 times as far from the airport as the webpage claims. Presumably they are citing straight-line distances but that's of little concern when you're riding the shuttle. Speaking of which, the on-line instructions about where to catch the shuttle are flat out wrong and it took 3 Hotel staffers and 15 mins on the phone - plus missing one of the twice hourly busses - to get proper directions (the staff didn't know either and they worked it out by having me walk around....bags in hand). So, it took me 44 minutes to get the shuttle and another 25 to the hotel. The UP Express to downtown would have been - honestly - faster. To top it off, the shuttle driver was a very special piece of work. Of the 14 hotels serviced at the shuttle pick up, the Sheraton is by far the furthest away and has the least per-hour shuttle pick ups (2 per hour vs 3-4). And what the Sheraton webpage doesn't tell you - they actually have a hotel at the airport! (Why wouldn't they list that option when I search for "airport hotel?"). The hotel is ok. I'm a high-mileage traveler and got the upgrade to the exec floor and business lounge. Not to misuse our president's rich vocabulary, but the lounge was sad. It's hard to find a depressing place in Canada, but Starwood managed to make this happen. The room itself was good. Comfy and large, though a bit out dated. For example, the only place to plug in my phone was the far side of the room from the bed (what's with that?). The Tv has no programming guide so despite the latest technology I'm left surfing channels in an unfamiliar service district. Again, really? Can't open the windows - I HATE this "feature" - so I was left with the AC running all night. Right over the bed. Great way to catch anyone one of hundreds of illnesses and just bad architecture. This morning - predictably - I can't breathe. All in all, this place is definitely in my "never again" list. Try one of the 13 other hotels that are closer to the airport - most of which are cheaper too.
Whenever we fly out of YYZ and have an early flight or concerns about making it to our departure on time, we avail ourselves of the most conveniently located hotel near Pearson International. Standard Sheraton quality, the beds are comfortable, the rooms (relatively) quiet, considering you are at the airport and check-in is efficient and friendly. The option of walking to the airport and our flight is irresistible on travel days.
This is a great hotel to sleep well after long flights. Just wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the amenities like the pool and restaurant. The shuttle runs every half hour in combination with the Crowne Plaza. It gets full very quickly so be early.
So how weird would it be to fly back to Toronto just to stay at this hotel again? I am tempted to do just that after having a great one night stay there during our late April weekend trip to Toronto. Since our flight in had a late arrival, we thought it better to stay at an airport hotel, then the next day we'd move to a downtown hotel. Booked through Hotwire.ca, we got this hotel as part of the gamble; made me very excited as I'd previously researched it and was intrigued by their pool. Looked so cool in the pictures. Indeed, the pool area is very cool! Like a resort oasis in the middle of the desert - the domed glass ceiling bringing in so much light reminding me of a movie of a futuristic planet - it felt like I was outside yet was protected from the harsh environment - the lounge chairs comfy and the water warm - all that was missing was a waiter bringing me a tropical drink. I'd go back to this hotel solely for their pool even if everything else was subpar. But it isn't! This hotel is the whole package - and it starts at the airport where the shuttle pickup is at DOOR 41, not POST 22 like so many other airport hotels. Door 41 is literally a door where you can actually wait inside the airport or at the very least under the covered roof - how civilized! We called the hotel when we arrived, they gave us an estimate of the shuttle's arrival and it was right on.The driver was very friendly and helpful with our bags. Greeted at the front desk we were surprised to find they'd upgraded us to the Club floor. Walking into our room our first impression was wow, this is nice, and yes it was. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom very clean, everything very sparkly. We had a great sleep and if there was airport noise it didn't bother us, we happen to like the sounds of planes overhead. Our buffet breakfast in the Olio dining room the next morning was delicious - made to order omelettes, fresh fruit, the whole works. Super friendly service and the ambience made for a very relaxing morning. Love the decor of the hotel, very earthy colors and textures, large windows, we were very comfortable there. We stayed as long as we could, and would've asked for a late checkout if we didn't have the reason for this trip being a visit with our daughter. Perhaps our next trip to Toronto we'll stay here again, have her come stay with us, she'll feel like she's been on a holiday and so will we!
4 day stay. Could not have been happier with the staff, food, accommodations and meeting facilities. The lovely pool area in leafy courtyard under glass dome with planes unbelievably close overhead - priceless experience.
I was there for a conference. We were well over 100 people for a few days. While there, the service was good. We had a banquet dinner and service was nice and friendly. Housekeeping were very kind. The problem happened after I left. I forgot my bathing suit and a sports bra in the drawer of the room. I called and asked if there was a way to get those belongings back. I was transferred 5 different times in the span of 24 hours. Nobody ever called me back. Finally, when I called and asked to speak to a manager, they asked why I was calling. When I explained, the girl said "we found your belongings". Great I thought the only problem is, she wanted my credit card to pay for the shipping without ever telling me how much it would cost. When I objected she 'went on the website to see how much FedEx charges'. She estimates that it will be around $40. Total, there is less than 1lb of stuff to ship. I have forgotten something at a restaurant before and they shipped it free of charge. We spent $200 at the restaurant..imagine how much 100+ room plus banquet plus 2 day conference ran up. I'd personally stay away - I like places that go above and beyond, not those that gouge you.
My sister and I stayed three days at the hotel and had a great time! The people that work there are AMAZING!!! They are such hard working, attentive, helpful people!! Just the best! We were there for the Imagine No Religion conference and food was provided by the hotel and every meal was terrific!! Fresh and tasty! The pool was divine!!! Perfect temperature and an incredible view of the planes landing/taking off!! Our room was well insulated because we were never bothered by any noise from the airport. Lovely stay! Would go back anytime!
I checked in here for one night when landing from the UK. The reception service was good, the room was quite dark and well maintained but I would guess a few years old. Breakfast was good. Overall i would recommend this hotel if you in transit, otherwise there are many other options if you are happy to travel away from the airport.
Hats off to Leo, who checked us in efficiently and smoothly. He told us about the "UP" train, which runs directly from the airport terminal, to Downtown Toronto in about 25 minutes! We were able to go to the "UP" attendant's stand, and get a 7 hour pass (for the same price as a 1 way ticket). (There are no signs telling you this - his tip paid off). We spent a good 6 hours exploring the Downtown markets, and the City, and then came back to the hotel. We heard no noise on the 5th floor at all. It was a good, and very convenient, stay!
