The rooftop staff offered amazing breakfast service. And I had a great experience inside the hotel. The room service staff were also great. However, the un-sheltered situation around downtown San Diego is unacceptable. The area around the hotel (the surrounding streets) does not look sanitary and does not feel safe to walk around. Please be mindful when walking on foot in this area.
Hotel is showing it’s age. Small and cramped. Service extremely disappointing. Valet was a complete mess. Not very well run and the rooms are tiny.

Thing only thing I'd say was a negative, was the automated voice update when you call, it said that the gym was open, and they were taking extra safety measures. this was the reason we chose this hotel, but when we arrived it was closed. I understand for COVID 19, Just wish the outgoing message said that it was closed, so we could make a better informed choice. other than that, our stay was wonderful, and the staff were very accommodating.

I stayed in other Andaz locations around the world and was always happy with this brand, so I was excited to choose this one in San Diego. Sadly for me, I was disappointed. Although the hotel is central, nicely decorated, and quite clean, I found the staff to be standoffish... and for 350 a night they should at least say good morning or good night when they see you pass by. Also they had no one to open the doors for you, not even when we had luggage. Not to mention no one offered to help with the luggage -by the way I am 8 months pregnant! In my experience, in other establishment a doorman is always there to great you, and the staff always make sure you a hand is offered with the luggage on arrival, and some hotels even call you as you are on the way out to see if help is needed -basic customer care expected from a 4star hotel! I would not book this location again.
My first time at this hotel and I really enjoyed my stay. The team was beyond helpful and so friendly. I will be back for sure. Cheers!
Everything was great. Liked the big glass shower, loved the outside rooftop area with bar and pool. Even got a cabana for a day. The staff was excellent, especially the bar staff. There was one person that bothered my stay at check out which kind of bummed me out. Long story short...he was not engaging, choosing to do something else and look at his computer instead of listening to and looking at me when I had questions on my bill. Then, having no idea what he was talking about, expecting me to pay an extra $85 despite what I had been told, and that it was "the norm", not listening to a word I said, I finally got upper management to deal with it, and I was correct. He took no time to consider the issue and figure it out. He just kept pushing back that I was wrong and I owed 40% instead of 20% service fee. Then when it was confirmed only 20% by the manager I had negotiated with and the bill itself, there was no "I'm sorry" or whatever. Very poor person to have at the front desk. Kind of ruined my whole stay.
Beautiful hotel. Close the seediest part of Downtown SD, but the property is gorgeous.
