Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, San Diego

We saw San Diego on the TV last year when they hosted the MLB ALL Star game. It looked beautiful from Petco Park. We decided we wanted to visit. I have access to Marriott Vacation Club so I looked at Pulse. They said they were located in the heart of San Diego. They did not lie! You really don't need a car unless you are going up the coast. We took the Hop on Hop off Trolley and went everywhere; but I digress, back to Pulse. It is beautiful. The staff is very friendly. Tommy, the Concierge, was especially great. He recommended great restaurants and things to do. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. The renovation that was done really is nice. No stove but you have a microwave, mini fridge and dishwasher. Comfortable and relaxing space.

We were in San Diego for a vacation recently, and this is a great location with easy access to restaurants, the Convention Center, shopping, the highways and within minutes to the airport. We drove up the coastline to LaJolla for the beaches and it was spectacular. Besides a very loud A/C unit, and very loud neighbors, the Suites are gorgeous. The overall atmosphere is trendy, but family friendly. I would certainly recommend The Pulse San Diego.

We are MVC members and are a family of 7 so staying in suites is a must! The pulse had everything we needed for our stay in San Diego. We had connecting suites to make a two bedroom. Each room had its own living room and kitchen area. The bedrooms and bathroom were nice sized for a city hotel. The restaurant was reasonably priced for breakfast and with a Starbucks too. The renovated rooms are gorgeous! Everyone was hospitable to our large family- including kids 18-7.

My sister and I stayed here for 3 nights before heading to Mexico and we loved everything about the Pulse. The location was decent but the resort itself was immaculate! We really enjoyed our stay. It's in walking distance of many of the attractions.

We stayed here the last week of July, and had a wonderful time. San Diego is obviously a great place to visit. What really set the trip apart was the terrific service we had in the bar at the hotel. Ordinarily this "isn't really our thing" but we struck up a conversation with Tim, the bartender, and had a FANTASTIC Mojito! Actually, several of them. By the end of the week, he was out of mint. Ha! (But then got more, called our room, and we had to go for one more on our last night!) What outstanding service! Ask for Tim's Mojito, and tell him I sent you.

Spent 3 nights here recently, and would definitely stay here again. It's a couple blocks from the hustle and bustle of the Gaslamp Quarter, but easily walkable, Also walkable to Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, etc. The suite and the common areas were immaculate, service was very friendly. The bar/restaurant serves excellent food and has specials every night. Taco Thursday was a big hit, tacos were cheap and delicious as were their Tater Tots with bacon, etc...I could have eaten two orders of them. Bar service was friendly and prompt.

If you are looking for a time share property instead of a hotel this is not the right choice. as there is not a kitchen maybe you could call it a kitchenette but definitely not something you could cook in unless you want to microwave oatmeal or popcorn. The living room area was cramped living room. However they do have a nice bar/lounge area but the food was only ok. Service varied from good to rude. There is a piano that children like to bang on which may ruin your dining experience. Parking is a nightmare with a corkscrew ramp going up several floors as it is shared with offices. At check in our rooms were not ready and the staff at the front desk were rude. Maybe they treat you better if you are an owner but we will definitely not return.

We stayed here (2 adults with kids 9&5) for one night. Location is central and easy to get to the zoo and Gaslamp district. Our room has a king size bed, small living room with kitchenette (stocked with essentials). It's very clean, comfortable bed, good water pressure, and free wifi. We like this much better than regular hotel room, especially when traveling with kids.

This review is for people traveling with children. Let me start off by saying that we travel to Marriott Vacation Clubs several times a year. Newport, Palm Springs and Tahoe, each at least once a year. I do not understand how Marriott thinks they can get away with calling the Pulse hotels Vacation Clubs. VERY misleading Marriott, you cannot compare them AT ALL! To start off, the parking situation is really horrible. There is only a small inlet for parking, allowing maybe 4 cars to park at a time. Several times when we returned to the hotel, we had to drive around the block a few times until there was an opening. The hotel is new, so of course everything is very nice. Lobby is nice, rooms are clean and nice, but small. When we got there we immediately called for a crib. We left for dinner, came back at 8pm and no crib. Call the front desk several times, they had to 'look' for a crib. So disgusting that they do not know where they keep their cribs. It took an hour before the maintenance man brought up the pack n play in one hand (with no cover) and my baby's sheets in the other. No disrespect for the maintenance man, but I don't know if he was just cleaning a toilet with the hand he was holding my baby's sheet with. They did give us some credit toward the restaurant, which was fine. But as any parent knows, coming back and waiting an hour for your children to go to bed is too much. Another housekeeping issue, which is so gross to me, is that they keep the extra pillows in the closet in the bathroom. They pillows are not up high, but down where people hang their clothes. Our hang up clothes were touching the extra pillows. I really hope, but highly doubt, that they change the pillows with every visitor. The biggest problem with the room itself, if traveling with kids, is the sliding doors. Both to the bedroom and to the bathroom are fogged glass. So the light comes through. It was not possible to sit up and watch tv while the kids sleep, or leave the bathroom light on for my kids because my baby in the crib would pop up. I don't think I will back to this hotel again. Again, it's nice and clean. But, not for me.

I stayed here with my family and although the hotel & rooms were nice, I had a bad experience on our last night there. One of the elevator doors closed on me (despite trying to keep it open) and hit me hard in my leg. It knocked the wind out of me, I felt soreness in my neck and back and it left a huge bruise on my leg for a week. My 4 year old daughter and parents witnessed it and were worried and I needed to put a heating pad on my leg, so we stayed in the rest of the night - not the way we wanted to end our weekend. The hotel was apologetic and covered our parking, gave me ice packs & heating pads, but that was it. When we wrote in to customer service to follow up on the incident, we asked to be credited our points for the stay to make up for the bad experience and they were unable to accommodate that request nor did they offer anything else for the inconvenience. I will not be visiting the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse in San Diego in the future.
