Hilton Garden Inn Durham Southpoint3.0 out of 5.0

Hotel is in a location that gives you many options for dining, shopping, and is close to RTP. Staff is friendly and welcomed me as a Honors member. Asked if I️ had stayed with them before and welcomed me back. Busy road behind hotel, but did not notice any noise issues. The room was very clean and had plenty of outlets and media plug ins. Breakfast was cooked to order fresh tasty and quick. Is my go to hotel in Raleigh.
Great location! Great hotel! Great service! Clean! All the things I look for in a hotel. I was visiting Durham for a business event and chose this hotel for its convenience to our company. I really enjoyed being across the street (really!) from the Streets at Southpoint mall, and the Ruths Chris Steak House is right there at the hotel. Staff at check-in were pleasant and helpful. The staff recognized me as a Hilton Honors member. And my room was spotless. I really like having the Keurig coffee maker in the room. I enjoyed the option to have a cooked to order breakfast. All was GREAT!
Did not receive the Hilton Welcome. No acknowledgement of HH member, nor received information on amenities or restaurant info. No bottled water. Just key, and WiFi info. I've have better greetings at other Hilton locations.
Full disclosure, my wife and I used to live 10 minutes from this hotel for the 3 years we lived in Durham, NC, but had never stayed here so I was excited to be back and finally get inside to see the property. In the end, for the price, I was disappointed and it was several little things. These will probably seem petty to most--I will admit that up front. Check in was fast, efficient and friendly. Staff was nice and the property, overall, is well maintained. The hotel is in a great location with the excellent Southpoint Mall literally right across the street. They have an Apple store, Crate and Barrel, theatre, Brooks Brothers, awesome food court, etc. amongst so many other great stores and restaurants. They also have a Ruth's Chris we have eaten at and it's excellent. The hotel is right off I-40 so easy on and off. I am a Waffle House fan and they have a location 5 minutes away along with a Kroger grocery store and we went to both regularly when we lived there. The property has a nice modern lobby with ample seating - in and outdoor. Bar and breakfast area, indoor pool, gym, business center, etc. but then it was the little things that irritated me. * Breakfast wasn't complementary but $10.95 per person * the gym had just a few machines and the TV on the elliptical I used my first night there didn't work and then the treadmill the next morning rattled so loud I was almost embarrassed doing my 4 miles on it. * They had no wipes for after you worked out and the dispenser was empty from the night before and not filled the next morning when I was back. This was odd but the pool was really nice and heated but they either took out the hot tub or never had one--my wife spotted this due to the floor tile and I really like getting a shower and then hitting the hot tub after working out so not sure what happened there. Yes, I am a gym rat so maybe in the minority here who use them, but many of us do work out and so if you have a gym I hold hotels to a standard having been at so many hotel gyms over the last 40+ years all over the world and see how they've evolved to cater to us who use them. Hilton properties contract with Precor which is a trusted name in gym equipment but these were the most basic of machines. When I came down the next morning to use the gym it was full and I was lucky to get a machine so the equipment does get used yet service to the gym doesn't reflect this by my observations. For the important items, yes, the room was clean as we entered but if felt small and cramped as did the bathroom. Common areas (carpets, walls, elevators) and then in the rooms the fixtures, furnishings, bed, comforter and flat screen were all good to better, clean and appeared well maintained. Overall, yes, my critiques are minor so like I said take my review with a grain of salt. Staff works hard as the property is well maintained and they are friendly and assisting. Would I go back for the price? Probably not.
Stayed at this hotel because it was on a marathon's website that I did. I asked about late checkout the morning of the marathon and was told that would be possible. When it came down to it, I was going to have to pay for a 1/2 a day, because let's fact it, a marathon takes a while and who wouldn't want to shower afterwards.
Our business trip was made easy by the central location and all the amenities that this Hilton had to offer. Great Food ! GREAT STAFF ! I highly recommend to any one traveling to the Raliegh/ Durham area.
Won't be staying there again. They were listed as a marathon friendly hotel for the #RunRDC marathon. I asked if I could check out at 12:30 to have time to shower after the marathon "NO" They have a shuttle service but won't use it to take any runners over to the race start. Not a very friendly check in with Rosanna. I will recommend the marathon take this one off the list, either way I won't be staying there again next year.
My experience was awesome. I was in town for a surprise birthday celebration for my neice. Most of the family and friends stayed at this hotel. The atmosphere was good, the location was excellent and the staff was superb.
My wife and I have stayed here the last four or five times I've been seen by my cardiologist at the Duke Clinic that's nearby and it's not because we're in a rut. We have never been disappointed in any aspect of any of our visits, so when we're in this area, this is our hotel of choice. The service is outstanding in every respect, front desk, maid service, and I'm sure the small dining area that is part of the lobby, although we've never eaten there. They are so accommodating regardless of your request. My appointment with the doctor was changed from late morning to 3:00 PM this visit so at the last moment I requested a late checkout time and they gladly moved ours back to 2:00 PM, which was a huge help. We like everything about this place, location (tons of shops and restaurants very close by), rates, service, atmosphere (peaceful and quiet), spaceful rooms, baths, furnishings, cleanliness, everything. We plan to see you next visit.
We stayed at this property for a recent family reunion. The location is excellent with plenty of dining and shopping within walking distance. Our room was nice and overall very clean and comfortable. All staff members that we dealt with were friendly and helpful. When leaving the hotel for the day we put the Do Not Disturb sign up as there were work documents out and didn't want the cleaning staff to have to work around them. When we returned that evening we were surprised to find that the staff had left fresh towels in a bag at our door which was a lovely gesture. There is a Ruth's Chris Steak House connected to the inn and we definitely made use of it. While sitting in the lovely courtyard between the hotel and restaurant we were delighted to be able to order cocktails from the Ruth's Chris bar. We did not visit the breakfast area in the lobby but it looks very nice. Cocktails are also available in the lobby during the evening. We would definitely recommend this property as a nice place to stay if you are in the area.
