This is a lovely boutique hotel, but I was surprised at the level of noise that reached my room. If you are noise-sensitive, be forewarned. The sounds of evening events carry through to the rooms (e.g., jazz from the lounge) and there is quite a bit of noise from patrons loitering in the parking lot afterward. I think that it's great to have these events, but the hotel needs to be sensitive to its patrons who are paying for a good night's sleep. The noise didn't subside until after 10pm. Relatedly, the programmed music that plays all day and through the night is disruptive; it's loud and can again be heard from the rooms, well past a reasonable sleeping hour. At 10:30 pm, I had to ask that it be turned down and I simply don't understand why it had to be quite so loud. The other negative is that many of the buffet options are centered around red meat eaters: bacon, sausage, and sausage casserole. In this day and age, it would be nice to see at least a turkey or chicken option, if not a vegetarian option, for side dishes besides potatoes. It would also be great if coffee could be available in the lobby all day, as is typical of hotels of this caliber. Now, to balance these negatives with several points of highly positive praise: staff is very friendly, the rooms get cleaned in a timely and non-disruptive manner, the bed is very comfortable, the hotel and grounds are beautifully maintained, and the offerings that they do have at the buffet are fresh and delicious (fruit, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and baked goods). I also appreciated the fresh filtered water that was available right down the hall. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for those who aren't overly noise sensitive. A few tweaks would elevate it from very good to excellent.
We had a special afternoon dropping in for afternoon tea. It was delicious and made a lasting special memory for all of us. Our family originates from England but, my children have not yet visited across the pond. This was a delightful way to have them share traditional afternoon tea with grandmother during her visit. I cannot wait to a holiday tea this winter.
Just the best ever. Room, staff, restaurant, lobby, breakfast. Just can’t go wrong, go and be spoiled. During the week they have amazing afternoon tea in the lobby. Live Jazz a couple nights a week. Easy access to freeway.
One word...PERFECT!! A must see, must stay when in town! Feels like you’re in a 5 star hotel in a resort but yet you are surrounded by all conveniences. The most wonderful hotel in Guilford County by far. Worth the extra money for the experience!
My boyfriend and I were visiting Greensboro for a friend’s wedding. They were having one of the events at the Proximity across the street. I have eaten the hotel’s restaurant, the Green Valley Grill, many times when I came to town on business trips to the Furniture Market. I never had the chance to stay in the hotel before. I was already excited about booking here, but they went above and beyond any of my expectations. I called the day before we arrived and asked about the free airport shuttle service I read about under “amenities”. The lady I spoke with confirmed this to be true and took down our names and flight info. They picked us up from the airport in a Mercedes van that was very clean with a extremely courteous driver. The staff at the hotel could not have been nicer or more helpful. This goes for the restaurant as well which has incredibly delicious food and cocktails. We ate there many times. It is a lovely and special place. The whole environment of the hotel is beautiful and relaxing. Elegant jazz, classical, and swing music is piped in everywhere creating a wonderful soundtrack to the Grand Hotel experience. The rooms were so comfortable and loved the deep soaking tub. The free breakfast buffet is the best I have ever had in a hotel which is served in a charming and bright room with a view. We used their free shuttle service many times going back and forth to the Proximity which is their sister hotel. They also shuttled us back to the airport at the end of our stay. Do not hesitate to stay here.
if you are familiar with high tea, and think that you can only find the real thing in England, you should try the O. Henry version of it. the setting and ambiance is reminiscent of the UK's finer high tea establishments. the scones and clotted cream are spot on. the tea is brewed for you in the kitchen, so it's hard to know if they use loose tea or sachets, but they offer a good variety of teas. a lovely way to re-group and catch your breath mid-day. we were not staying at this hotel.
Came to the area after spending some time in Raleigh to visit Old Salem and for a quick get-a-way. I'm very picky about hotels so my standards are super high! This hotel is very lovely inside and out! The main area with high ceiling, and lovely antiques but comfy leather furniture. This is where they have jazz in the evenings and coffee/tea in the morning. My King room was so clean, nicely decorated and the bathroom was super nice with lots of space, nice tub and shower so updated and of course upscale Aveda products and nice towels. The only issue I did have was the second morning there was no hot water. More about that later. The first night I had dinner in the Green Valley Grill in the hotel and I have to say the service and the food was nothing short of excellent! I'm a big foodie and very picky in that area as well but it was amazing. The chef made sure my meal was gluten free although they did not list gluten free options on the menu the young waitress was very aware and accommodating in my dietary needs. The morning breakfast was wonderful as well. Lots of staff attending to things, the selections were great and the room was so elegant as well as the breakfast buffet. You can have your breakfast inside or outside in a beautiful courtyard. This is all included as well! Getting back to no hot water on the second morning. I did have to take a cold shower but called the front desk and they did offer to send someone to take care of it but I was in a hurry so declined. At the front desk check out I asked for a discount on that night and the clerk wanted to speak to her manager about which she did. The manager was very nice and offered me 50% off which I really appreciated, but later after my breakfast and when she went to get my luggage she said they would comp that night. I was really surprised and pleased! I have to say, all in all that the O.Henry Hotel exudes class and top notch service in every way. This hotel is well cared for and the employees really do all they can to make your stay the best! Would stay there again anytime!!
My family and I recently stayed here. It is on the way to Mt. Airy and so we decided to stay here. The inside of the hotel is beautiful. Very elegant and charming. The rooms are nice with thick walls so that you can not hear your neighbors which is nice. The rooms are beautiful with decorations. There is a water filter station on each floor where you can fill up the pitcher in your room. The beds are so comfortable! The staff is always very nice and readily available. The breakfast area is small and there is not a lot of seating, so I do recommend to arrive early. The food selection is wonderful and the breakfast is amazing. I definitely recommend this hotel. It is about halfway in between Charlotte and Mt. Airy for those interested in visiting.
We stayed at the O’Henry on our first visit to Greensboro. After living in Greensboro for over a decade we spent our last two nights there before moving. In between we visited on numerous occasions for work conferences, afternoon tea, or to go to the incredible Green Valley Grill. Everything is perfect from the casual elegance and comfort of the lobby and parlor, to the incredible service from every person, and the amazing breakfast that is included with your stay. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I especially enjoyed the dressing area, two sinks, large shower, separate tub, comfortable bed, and the quiet. You hear nothing from the outside or the room next door. Every detail is thought of including a nightlight in the bathroom and the positioning of the bathroom so the light doesn’t shine into the sleeping area, Earl Grey tea in room and glass pitchers for the filtered water dispenser. I could go on and on and I will close with thanking the entire team at the O’Henry for 15 years of memories. If you are considering visiting Greensboro, it is worth the trip and staying at the O’Henry is an experience you should not miss.
The O.Henry is one of the nicest places to stay through and through that I have experienced. The beautiful lobby with the complete Gift of the Magi painted around the perimeter of the ceiling is so striking. The courtyard, event rooms and restaurant make for a very pleasant atmosphere. The rooms are very nice. Each room has an original painting with areas of the hotel depicted. The ceilings are painted with clouds and moons...such a soothing touch. All this, not to mention a very pleasant staff!
