Let's start by saying that I know my Marriott properties. I'm a gold for life member and have stayed over 600 nights in Marriott's all over the US, and a few abroad. I'm loyal to Marriott because of their dedication to making sure their guests are comfortable and happy. This Marriott property does not live up to the brand name. Of all the Marriott's I've stayed in, I've only had complaints about 2. This is one of them. My wife and I had a very late night and were looking forward to a lazy Sunday with a slow start. When I booked the room, I requested late check-out and was told I had until 4:00PM. Normal check out at this hotel is posted on the door as 12:00PM. With the Do No Disturb sign hung on the door, housekeeping knocked loudly at 10:30 AM. This did so again at 11:30 AM. Just a few minutes later the front desk called to ask if I needed more time in the room. This was still 30 minutes before regular check out. If I had known they wanted me to leave so badly, I would have stayed elsewhere. A side note was breakfast, which was scheduled to be done at 10:00 AM. The room was full of people eating breakfast at this time and 6 or so were at the buffet filling their plates. The 2 staff starting waiting with their cart at about 2 minutes before 10AM. As soon as it was 10, they swept in and removed the food as quickly as possible, even from people who where reaching for it. I was close enough to hear them giggle as they walked away, saying 'I guess they'll just have to go to McDonalds'. They actually enjoyed taking food away from people just before they grabbed it. There was a lady pouring orange juice and they switched off the machine when her cup was half full. Stay elsewhere in Southside. The people at this property are borderline mean.
I will start by giving credit for the overall cleanliness of the hotel and comfort of the beds. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was decent. However, it was difficult to enjoy anything due to the fact that the walls are paper thin. I could literally hear the man in the adjacent room coughing as if he was standing in front of me. Also, just normal movement of people walking sounded like soldiers marching in combat boots. Any door closing sounded like the walls were vibrating. Not to mention a train literally runs alongside the hotel at all hours of the night. In my opinion the construction of this hotel is not up to par and the noise from the train makes sleep and relaxation impossible to obtain. I have stayed at countless Mariotts and Hiltons nationwide and never experienced anything like this. If you can sleep through anything then this hotel is for you.
Okay, so this is a chain hotel. You’re not gonna get quirky decor or fresh, handmade pastries. But if you’re looking at this, you know that... It’s a nice hotel, very clean, and with surprisingly spacious rooms for the price. The value vs. quality aspect alone brings it to four stars for me. I’m giving this hotel five stars because of the customer service. Linda at the front desk was particularly helpful— she was friendly, efficient, and eager to assist, all with a professional demeanor. I’ve had the opportunity to stay at everything from cheap motels to boutique suites, and the service that Linda provided was on par with or better than what I’ve received anywhere else. Seriously, give her a raise. She made our stay exceptional!
The hotel seems new and the rooms are large; service is good as is the morning breakfast. The only drawback is that the building is next to an active train track. If noise bothers you, would recommend asking for a room that faces the riverside (front) of the hotel.
We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed our stay! The breakfast each morning was good and varied, though the fruit options were very limited. There was coffee available throughout the day and popcorn in the afternoon which was great! It was a bit away from much of the sites we wanted, but the Uber drivers in town were very kind! It was near a few restaurants. My only complaint is that the rooms did not have a safe, so we didn’t have housekeeping in our room because we had expensive computers and electronics.
The SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh Southside Works is an excellent property, located conveniently next to shopping and food. The hotel staff was outstanding, Lauren at check-in was extremely helpful, hospitable and knowledgeable of the area. The property itself is up to date and the rooms were wonderful. There is a really nice trail directly across from the hotel that runs along the river towards the city that was beautiful. The Hot Metal Bridge across from the hotel offers a secondary walking/biking bridge that gives a spectacular view of Pittsburgh at day or night. We will stay again for our next trip to Pittsburgh!
Enjoyed a recent long weekend in Steeltown to see family. Good hotel, friendly, good breakfast, spacious rooms, close to the action. Like the hotel and will be back. Odd thing - booked online, then saw a cheaper rate posted. Called and asked and got the cheaper rate.
Check in process was smooth and informative. Room was spotless and well equipped. The "happy hour" snacks looked great but I didn't sample them as I was headed to a dinner function. I appreciate the same many outlets for charging devices. I managed to leave my phone charger in one of them. I called when I arrived home many hours after checkout. Lindsey at the front desk and those in the housekeeping department retrieved it. Lindsey is mailing it to my home. This only confirms my opinion of this as a first rate hotel that I hope to visit again.
This hotel was a great location off 376. Th room was clean, comfortable and quite spacious. Checking in was easy. Free breakfast included (food was so so). But there are plenty of restaurants in walking distance and a short drive to the PITT campus. Bottom line: I’ll stay here again.
very clean, very comfortable beds, very friendly hotel staff and now serving not just hot & cold breakfast but evening buffet of food M-Tu-Wed from 5-7. Food was really good. Chicken burritos one night with all the fixins, cheese tray and cold tea and lemonade and next night chicken sliders and BLT sliders on croissants with cheese tray and cold drinks.
