This hotel was a perfect location in the centre of Norwich it had plenty of free parking which is always helpful the staff are friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was a good size and very clean and had all facilities you would need to have a lovely stay. We had a very comfortable bed and a good night sleep as the hotel was very quite as was noise level outside. Would definitely reccomend and stay again. Also every room has an iPad and free wifi.
Sadly I only spent one night and had little time to look around. But I hope the opportunity will arise to make a more leisurely visit. Two things strike you. The first is that the place is a warren, as you wander through several interlinked buildings from different centuries. The other is how fresh it all feels within these ancient shells; evolved through retention, maintenance and sympathetic modernisation. The reception was manned by the most sincere and engaged staff I have encountered in a long time. I had a single room on the attic level. It was narrow with a sloping ceiling. Neutral furniture and decoration (trying to be neither ancient nor modern) with few signs of wear-and tear, and a spacious ensuite bathroom of nearly equal size. All spotlessly clean. My room overlooked Wensum Street and I slept with the window and double-glazing open. This allowed in lot of noise from the customers of the bars and restaurants which fill the area and which lasted into the early morning. But that was my choice.
Stay at the maids head quite often as it's one of the nicest hotels in Norwich with a superb location, but I have to say, they have one of the most efficient nicest most accommodating guys on the desk (Liam), can never do enough, top marks.
We stay here on a regular basis, location is great, rooms are stunning, staff are wonderful and very helpful. Particularly a gentleman called Liam who works on reception, can't do enough for you, a true asset to the business! Would highly recommend this place!
The location of hotel cannot be faulted. Right in the heart of the city and with parking. Check in staff were lovely and efficient. Room was a bit of a schlep to get to so lucky I only had a small bag. People with large heavy bags might struggle to get to the upper rooms. My room was tiny. Single bed. Room very hot because of lovely sunshine, but being in the gables, suffered the effects of the sun. Bathroom was bigger than the bedroom. Nice and light. Room also had free iPad but I didn't use. Breakfast was made to order and my omelette was first class as was pot of tea. Didn't eat in the hotel but met up with colleagues in the bar which was soulless. Perhaps it's better in the winter round the open fire.
We stayed in the newly refurbished Cathedral suite which has been done up wonderfully but still keeping with the traditional feel of the hotel - we couldn't help but take lots of pictures! Our room had a bath in the bedroom (very luxurious!) as well as his and her sinks in the bathroom with a large walk in shower. The breakfast buffet offers a huge selection of items with extra dishes made fresh from the kitchen. All the staff we spoke to were very polite and friendly. We have family in Norwich so will definitely be staying here again next time we visit.
The perfect setting for a catch up of college friends last seen 38 years ago in Norwich! We were placed in a quiet area ( just as well as we didn't stop talking !) with lovely comfy chairs. The afternoon tea was superb, gorgeous mix of finger sandwiches, wraps, savoury & sweet Choux buns, savoury scones ( warm & delicious!) jam and clotted cream scones and a beautiful selection of hand made delicate cakes, too many to name! All washed down with several pots of tea (whichever variety you selected) All staff very helpful and attentive and we were not rushed or hurried especially as we were there for a few hours! Well worth the money and would definitely return. A beautiful afternoon made even more special with the lovely food, thank you. 😀
Loads of old character with modern facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location. Good food. Breakfast choice very good. My only 'complaint' was that the coffee was too weak! Given the age of the building, no lifts but I believe they have more accessible rooms.
A plaque in the lobby claims that this is the 'oldest inn' in England which seems hard to believe - surprise, surprise there are no signatories from Ipswich at the foot of the certificate. That said, it's pleasingly creaky and low timbered and I was lucky enough to get the pretty sensational Queen Elizabeth suite - like stepping back in time if it weren't for the needless addition of an iPad for guest use. The floors sag underneath the carpet which is all part of the charm and it's well located near the river and plenty of good places to eat and drink - but it won't surprise you to know that none of this comes cheap.
This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel when visiting Norwich. It is ideally positioned for the centre of Norwich and within easy walking distance of the main shopping area.. Staff are very efficient and friendly. Our deluxe room was very comfortable and spacious and could not be faulted. Ample parking with the added bonus that you do not have to vacate the carpark until 4.00 pm on your day of departure. This is the first time we have used the restaurant for dinner and we were somewhat disappointed. Food quality was fine but the menu is somewhat pretentious and did not live up to our expectations. Certainly overpriced with starters and desserts at £8.00 and main courses between £20.00 and £25.00. Dinner for two with an aperitif and wine is therefore over £100.00. Having said that we would have no hesitation in returning, but we will not be dining there in the evening.
