Just wanted to give this hotel quick review for the fantastic service and beautiful rooms in the historic tomblands. We booked the last available room for a quick break away, we wouldn’t normally stay in Norwich as it is only an hour away from home, but so glad we did! We will definitely be booking again for our theatre trips in the future.
The Maids Head Hotel is believed to be the oldest hotel in the country, perhaps dating back to 1216. We stayed in one of the oldest parts of the hotel, in the Cathedral Suite. It was well appointed, clean and we enjoyed room service, with a superb afternoon tea, We loved the little touches; the double sinks in the bathroom (silly but true) no more searching for a razor among bottles of stuff! Plenty of towels, even dressing gowns. All of the staff we met were courteous and pleasant, and looked as if they enjoyed their jobs. Good staff are essential if an hotel is to work well. The staff at the Maids Head were exceptional. I'll write a separate review for the restaurant, but together I believe this hotel deserves a better rating than that given with rosettes and other 'expert' opinions. Well done. Thank you all for making our short visit so enjoyable.
I stayed during a weekend trip to Norwich. The only positive I have is the location. For what we paid, I really don’t think it was worth it. The room was tiny and not what was advertised. The room was tired looking and really dusty, the rain shower sprayed from approx 4 jets and was not enough to dampen ones hair. After cleaning the room, the cleaners left all the old towels in a pile on the floor. I won’t be staying again.
Perfect central location with parking thrown in foc with room...very close to Norwich cathedral and quarter. Only stayed one night but were able to park from midday before check in and until 430pm on check out day. Room very clean and comfortable and great breakfast selection. Very close to river ...had a lovely walk alongside it at rear of cathedral...and a cheeky beer in the Adam and Eve Pub ...one of the oldest in Norwich ...afterwards
We booked afternoon tea here after trying a couple of other places in Norfolk. The tea was superbly presented and really highlighted the beauty of the location overall... service was alittle slow.. but we didn’t mind as this gave us more time to enjoy our surroundings.
A lovely hotel in a beautiful area. Very friendly, helpful staff. Standard bedroom was good (no air con so would get hot in summer I imagine although there was a fan in the wardrobe). Bathrooms and amenities were excellent. Adequate car parking too. We had the Tasting Menu on our first night and it was beautiful. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. Breakfast was a joy, no buffet scrum and many items were cooked quickly to order. The later checkout and longer breakfast times on the Sunday the clocks went forward was much appreciated.
Loved the Maids Head hotel. The location is perfect for exploring the historic locations such as the castle, the cathedral, plus near the river shops, bars and restaurants. Sadly the weather was absolutely awful so we were a bit limited walking, but the hotel staff were absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them. The only minor criticism I have is the bedroom looked a bit dated and in need of redecoration, but their were decorators in the building so maybe the rooms were on their agenda. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. All in all we had a wonderful stay and I the would most definitely stay there again.
Wow what more can I say we are looking at holding our entire wedding there in 2020 and we were invited to have a meal there we couldn't fault it excellent atmosphere, service and food compliments to everyone including the chef
We had a lovely stay at the Maids Head, The Hotel is so convenient for Norwich. Room was lovely overlooking the Cathedral. Cleaned wonderful, lovely showers. Breakfast was wonderful and all the staff so helpful. Great Car park where you can see your car.
We stayed at the Maid's Head again with four others on 24th March and had a perfect stay and evening meal. The hotel location is perfect for exploring Norwich. On arrival Alex on reception was very helpful and friendly. After we settled into our beautifully refurbished room we went to the bar where Rusty looked after us in his usual professional and friendly way, he does know his wines. We then went through to the restaurant where Ana and Ivan looked after us perfectly, Ivan even remembered the wine my wife likes from our previous stay last November. The food is some of the best you will have anywhere and we eat out quite a bit. Credit to Chef Barry and his team. All the staff helped to make our stay perfect.
