The President Hotel

In the center of bloomsbury so walkable to the West End and just steps, from the tube. But the hotel needs a facelift and some basics are still not into the 21 century. Overall very clean, but its halls are battered from the cleaning carts, and bathroom still had separate hot and cold faucets, and the shower head was leaky and unadjustible. Breakfast was included but limited and not great quality. There is a sign at the desk that's says that they are renovating, but there was no evidence beyond the lobby. it's also the first hotel I have stayed in that charged me to stow my luggage. On the plus side, kudos for the IT guy who helped me connect my iPad when no one else could do it.

Great place. Excellent location... Direct Underground Piccadilly Line from Heathrow. Hotel about the 500 feet from Russell Square station. Friendly helpful staff. Free continental breakfast with a 5£ upgrade to full English breakfast buffet...well worth it. Small room but clean and modern. No AC but everything in room worked well. Definitely would stay there again.

We had to book this hotel to make a flight the following day, so I was under some time/money pressure. Bottom line, I got the immediate impression the The President was probably nice like 30 years ago. But walking down the hall to our room, I was overwhelmed with those international smells that can give someone the heaves--curry, fish, mildew, toilet odors, etc. I wondered if it was a residential hotel, or if they had prolific room service. The "free" breakfast was nice if you paid the additional 5 pounds PP extra to get the good stuff like eggs, sausage, etc. Taking note of the marred walls, stained carpeting, and shabby furniture, I had the feeling there's a truck with a demolition ball parked around the corner. Although it appeared that our bathroom was newly renovated, complete with a shower curtain you had to wrestle with to get clean.

Business trip. Needed good location. Got it. Wanted a good price. Got it. Wasn't looking for the Ritz....didn't get it. But, great value, clean, quiet, good location, helpful staff. Good breakfast deal. Free continental, for a couple of extra dollars (pounds) you can have a hot buffet. But, I am not a royal and find comfort in things being good...not elegant.

Terrific location. Old hotel, needs a face lift. Carpets and wall paper need replacing. Breakfast is poor quality.

Very near the Russell Square tube station and from there one can go anywhere. The breakfast was geat--full British costs extra, but is worth it.

This hotel is next to an underground station with a direct link to the airport, and within walking distance from all sites in the center, plus next to a charming square. We stayed in a refurbished room with a tiny fixed shower head, no shower cap, and minimal furnishings. The beds were good and very clean, the room was warm, and breakfast was quite adequate

Ideally located but old hotel in need of serious upgrades. Breakfast quality is poor. OK for a short tay if you want to be close to an underground station and in the heart of the city.

I stayed at this hotel some years ago, and I can say they rendered a great value for the price. Without being exceptional, this hotel was perfect for the medium budget traveler. However, this time it seems that they are not getting better, but the other way around. The only thing you get in the bathroom is soap. The towels are thin and small. The English breakfast used to be great, but now it's not worth the price. The beds were not comfortable either. They are still a good option, but not nearly as good as they used to be. Stay at lower floors because you may be able to catch the wireless internet from the lobby.

In town for the weekend and was pleased both with the location (tube stop around the corner) and price of the hotel. If I could change anything, I'd improve the continental breakfast and make free WiFi available in the rooms. Otherwise, was a very nice place.

A decent but fairly pedestrian hotel that is located in close proximity to Russell Square tube station. The staff was very friendly and help.

This was a very nice hotel and the location was great with the Russell Square metro station within a five minute walk. The hotel staff was by friendly and helpful as well.

Very convenience location. Close to underground and bus stop.

Hopefully they fixed the elevator that serves the top floor since my visit. However, I suspect the 'tough luck' attitude about guest comfort is likely to remain. I had to carry my luggage up a narrow flight of stairs because of the malfunctioning elevator - twice - because the first room I was assigned had not been cleaned and the maid would not keep an eye on my luggage while I tried to get a new room. But the hotel was quite cheap for London, so you probably get what you pay for.

Very small room, with a single bed that was adequate. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. No in-room internet, but free WIFI in the lounge. I would summarize as fine if you are looking for a place to sleep while on a short visit to London and trying to save given the horrible exchange rate. Certainly nothing special, but the price was right. The fire alarm in the middle of the night did not add to the overall ambience.

One could not ask for a more convenient location - within walking distance from the British museum and close to several good restaurants. However, the rooms are extremely small and separated by paper-thin walls. The continental breakfast is no bargain. We never learned what one had to pay for a full breakfast.

The President was very comfortable. The room offered all basic ammenities and was very clean. The full English breakfast was tasty. The location is very close to the heart of London and only a quick bus ride into town.

yes, you do get what you pay for. for an inexpensive, clean, reliable hotel the president is a good value. the location is excellent - away from the crowds but 1 minute from the underground! that was really the best you could ask for. the room was comfortable enough - just what we paid for- no more - no less - 2 people - 2 towels!

The President Hotel is located directly across from a lovely small park (Russell Square)that provides a relaxing place to picnic, read, people watch, or just enjoy the beauty and reflect. The hotel is also only a short walk to bus and underground, and Dickens House and the British Museum. There are a number of cafes and restaurants close by. The room was large enough for the 3 of us, with 2 single beds and a cot, all comfortable; although, basically, we left early each morning and returned between 7:00 and 8:00 pm. After all, we were there to experience the country not sit around the room. The toilet and sink worked a little differently from what we were accustomed to, but after a day or two we had the hang of it. As for the continental breakfast (included with the room), I have travelled throughout Europe and made 2 previous trips to England and found it to be exactly what I expected: toast and rolls with an assortment of jams, 3 kinds of cereal, some fruit, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The maid service was excellent, and the people at the front desks were pleasant and eager to be helpful. The only negative comment I can make is not the fault of the hotel; it is located on a very busy street in a busy part of town. The street noise (both people and traffic) is loud with the windows open, so a light sleeper might have trouble especially with the frequent sirens. Having said that, however, I AM a light sleeper, but we were so tired from our daily adventures that I adjusted quickly to the background noise. Of course, one could simply close the windows. At the time we were there it got chilly at night so it would not have been uncomfortable with the windows closed.

The President Hotel was a great value for our recent trip to London. The location is excellent 1 minute from the tube station yet facing a quiet side street. The staff was very warm and welcoming and knew our names immediately - it felt like we had been staying there for a week by the second day. The room was clean, the bathroom upgraded, the bed very comfortable - unfortunately there was jack hammering above us every week day beginning at 9 am sharp. If we were up and out early no problem - if we were lazy and stayed in to read it was a bit noisy. We would stay there again for sure.
