As always I look for a great area, a lot of well lit parking, knowledgeable staff at the front desk, clean rooms and building. Well, this location hit on every point with accuracy to say the least. Ben at front desk was a pleasure to meet, knows the property and acknowledgment of me as s IHG member was important to me also. Keep up the great work Ben! Last but not least, the property looks great. These guys don’t skip a beat, give it a shot at this location. They do not disappoint. Thanks so much again, Scotty
While in town for a holiday weekend needed multiple rooms so that we could accommodate myself, my mother and my two young kids. This hotel provided what we needed. The rooms and all public areas were clean. It could use a little refurbishing but I got the impression that is in progress. They only offer an outdoor pool which was not yet open which would have been ok except I got sick and my mom had to entertain the kiddos for a day without me and the pool would have been nice then. Brunch was good with multiple options. They have some seating but the second day that we were down for brunch, they ran out of chairs because so many people were eating. Since it was a holiday weekend, we stayed through Monday morning, unfortunately breakfast ends earlier on weekdays so we got there just as they were closing down. I would recommend that they change this policy for holidays. There are snacks at the front desk relatively inexpensive and you can pay cash or charge to the room. There is not a restaurant immediately adjacent (same parking lot) but there is a Dave & Busters and a Panera each about 1 block away. Overall I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.
Room was beyond what I expected super clean and comfortable breakfast was good only issues were the smell of Marijuana in the hallway but staff did try to locate the source as soon as I called and if you sleeping on the sofa couch in the living room the gap under the door is so wide a lot of light comes in from the hallway had to put towels under the door to make the living room dark so I could sleep. Now lets see if this review gets posted seeing as to though the company emailed me pointing out that I mentioned it smelled of marijuana and this didn't meet there review standards, like you can only post positive reviews so here I am posting to my trip advisor account
I recently stayed at a Staybridge hotel in Grand Rapids, Mich, I was there on business. I wanted to stay there because the rooms are larger and equipped with additional amenities. What I didn’t realize is, this hotel is an extended stay hotel and is an hotel that allows pets in the room. The room I was in was pretty worn out with floor trim missing and black stuff spattered on the wall, plus I was woke up several times by the sound of barking dogs from a few rooms down the hall. I definitely will be more diligent in the future on what kind of hotel I am staying in. This hotel may be fine for pet owners, however I would not bring my wife or children to an hotel like this. No Staybridge hotels for me in the future!
I visited this hotel for a volleyball tournament and was surprised by a few things. First when I arrived I had to wait for someone to come out of the back to check us in. When we got to the room there were stains on the furniture, hair in the shower, dishes and microwave were not clean. When I left that evening for dinner we took the stairs and it was covered in salt (it hadn't snowed for over a week). When we came back it reeked of marijuana. We got up in the morning to go have breakfast around 7 a.m. and find a sign saying breakfast wasn't open until 7:30! That's crazy! Families are try to get a good breakfast for kids before sporting tournaments that start at 8 a.m. why would you start breakfast so late. They didn't have hot chocolate at the coffee station. This hotel was a mess! Management has not followed up with my complaint. Terrible service.
We stayed here for one night after checking out of another hotel the night before that was dirty. I booked online around 9:00am on a Saturday and called Staybridge directly after, to see if they could accommodate an early arrival (since we were leaving the other hotel). Spoke with Emma at the front desk, she didn't have any rooms available just then (they had been full the night before). She assured me they would get a room cleaned as soon as possible and that she'd call me on my cell when the room was ready. She called just after noon to let me know our room was ready for check in. The room was clean and spacious. The suites are such a good value when traveling with family. Our boys are getting older, and the extra space is a huge plus! Especially when we travel for hockey tournaments, with extra bags and equipment. The two showers feel like a luxury since we only have 1 shower at home 😉 I will try to book at Staybridge from now on (or another IHG suite type property) when we travel in the future. Totally worth the money! I also want to give a positive review to Emma at the front desk for handling our phone request for an early check in and for following through and calling me back as promised! Unfortunately, people don't often follow through and I was expecting to have to call back myself to check on the room. I was pleasantly surprised by her customer service. Thank you Emma!!! We also dealt with Ben at the front desk, who was friendly and helpful during our stay.
The kids enjoy their own space so the Staybridge suite with the living room is great. We had a twin pull out which worked for one. There is a chaise lounge section of the same couch for another. It was quiet, clean, and comfortable. The kitchenette was great with the refrigerator, cooktop, and peninsula with two seats. It’d be great to vacation and eat from.
This hotel has been remodeled recently, and the furnishings in our rooms seemed brand-new. I loved that the kitchenettes included a 2-burner stove, full sized fridge and microwave. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious. Overall the hotel was immaculately clean. The breakfast buffet was a notch above the standard, and included cottage cheese, lunch meat, sliced strawberries and hard boiled eggs in addition to the usual cereal, oatmeal, bagels, make your own waffles, bacon/sausage and pre-made omelet of the day. Brown bags were provided and I saw several people packing lunches to go. Something that I really liked was that in addition to the strawberries there were always oranges, apples and bananas. There were a few negatives. The pool was outdoor only and was closed by the end of September. The kitchenette in our first room only contained 1 pot. In the 1-bedroom suites the bathroom is only accessible through the bedroom. By far though the only really distressing negative was that in the 1-bedroom, the sofa bed in the living room only contained a single sized mattress. On making the reservation, we had specified that there were 4 guests, but one of us ended up sleeping on the floor until we switched rooms. The sofa bed, although brand-new, appeared to be part of a sectional. I discussed the situation with the front desk staff, and although they were very nice, in retrospect I'm not sure that they understood exactly what I meant by "single" mattress. Maybe other rooms have a double in the sofa bed--when we switched to a 2-bedroom that sofa bed did. In the bedroom there was a chair and ottoman that didn't fit either, so I am wondering if a bunch of furniture was purchased and just distributed to the rooms without regard to where it would fit. We ended up upgrading to a 2-bedroom for a moderate fee, but by rights, a 1-bedroom with sofabed should have been suitable for a family of 4.
I am not a swimmer, in fact I have only swam with my littles a handful of times in there little lives. Most of the time the pool is too cold for me and I more so than not often refuse the torture. Staybridge Suites Grand Rapids has one of the most welcoming pools that I have ever enjoyed. The swim was warm yet refreshing and my littles were happy to see that I even risked dreadlocking my extensions and running my mascara while diving underwater, which is a rare phenomenon for me. I was also elated to find that their onsite washer/dryer units were free of charge. What an amazing included amenity as we were traveling out to the beach the following day and only second to cold water swimming I very much dislike putting on a cold wet bathing suit. The staff at this hotel was welcoming and available at all times. My family and I felt very much at home. The renovation was very minimal and looks amazing, and I did not even know of this renovation until we were on our way down the hallway to our room. The renovations smell fresh and the color pattern is very modern and clean. I would like to add that they have a chrome outdoor grill for your personal chefs out there, looking to enjoy a day at a good hotel in Grand Rapids during the summer. Remember to bring along your bbq sauce and chicken :). There is plenty of patio furniture nooks for catching up with family and friends. Our favorite gathering place for our family was the propane fire pit table. Very modern and with the times. This table set was enclosed with plush patio chairs and pillow accompaniments. I would recommend this property to others who require a suite style accommodation before their departing flight or if you are looking to visit Grand Rapids in general. This hotel is 1 hour from the beach which was not terrible but not the easiest drive home when you are hungry and looking like a wet noodle. This hotel did offer free parking which is a plus for me as well. One more note... I must add that the maintenance man was on site watering the flowers and bushes out front of the hotel around 10pm on our night of arrival. This impressed me as their entrance and surrounding walkways showed just how much they care about their property. Exotic florals will welcome you as you make your way through the corridor to the front desk.
My husband and I stayed at this location for the first time from 7/22/18-7/24/18. We were in town to see the Kevin Hart comedy show at the Van Andel Arena. This location was convenient as it wasn't far from the arena. The building is still under renovation. It was a nice room and priced well in comparison to other hotels who charge more for less. More specifically the building has a nice visual appearance but still needs some cosmetic updates. Cleanliness wasn't a major issue although there were spots on the backs of doors that could use wiping off, the carpet in the elevators shows signs of dirt and there was a reddish stain on the carpet in our room. Quality was never an issue; most things appeared to be of good quality ranging from the bed to the stainless steel appliances. We had no complaints of the bed at all. However the placement of the microwave was poor because you couldn't open it all the way. There was a closet door that wouldn't close properly and other similar small cosmetic issues. On the other hand I was impressed with the in room conveniences like the icemaker in the fridge, garbage disposal, dishwasher and such. I even liked the closet although I didn't utilize it much during my stay. A laundry basket had been supplied. The little messages that you can leave outside your door varied giving you more than the standard message that most hotels/motels provide. The staff was nice and AVAILABLE even late night for deliveries. The fact that after certain hours you have to use your key card to even enter the lobby or be rung in by the front desk staff made us feel that much more secure. Again I don't know of any other establishment of this nature that serves hot breakfasts and dinners. One downfall is that both the pool and hot tub are both outside; not appealing to someone with social anxiety or body woes. Then too it would be nice to have the option of having a hot tub or jacuzzi in your room and that isn't an option here and so as a result our "date weekend" was good but it could have been better. I was told there's a shuttle but we didn't utilize it.
