Rivertown Inn & Suites Downtown Detroit

The staff was nice enough but this place is otherwise a dump. We booked this place because it was the cheapest we could find with a location downtown which is a must in Detroit. The parking lot was filled with trash and nothing was clean. The first room we had was smelly like an old bar room that had been washed with commercial cleaners. You could still smell the cigarettes and booze but it was mixed with a really strong cleaner fragrance. To make matters worse there was a smell of urine outside the door which came into the room when you turned on the AC unit! We were able to change rooms the next day and the next room was better but still the carpet was so dirty that the soles of your feet were all black after walking around on it. On top of all this it was noisy from the main street the hotel sits on until 11 or 12 o'clock each night.

Check in was anything but friendly, no smile or warmth, just "give me your ID and charge card". Room was small, not dirty but not clean either. Only one small waste basket and no tissues. Did get clean towels but no bed service. Rooms were not very sound proof and there was lots of noise till 2-3 am. Not a wonderful stop.

Hotel staff was super helpful but they aren't playing with a full deck - room didn't have an iron- had to call down to front desk- they gave me an iron but told me to use my bed because they didn't have an ironing board.

Needs updated! TV stations very few and bad picture. Bathrooms need new fixtures.

Staff was so nice and helpful. Every single one of them! Room was nice and clean

Crappy hotel Only thing good it close to downtown area

Nothing in the room worked, no phone no blow dryer there were no towels and the front desk was not helpful.

Nice hotel & great location for my family. Room looked exactly like the pictures posted online. I like how we stayed on the top & had to use our key to have access to the stairwell (a plus). Would definitely stay there again.

Rooms were ok for the price, but...the thermostat didn't work, the TV would not turn off-had to pull the plug every time, no hair dryer, in-room coffee maker and coffee but no cups or sugar. Neighboring rooms had loud profanity being yelled a lot. I told front desk I did not need maid service & hung the Do Not Disturb sign - someone entered my room anyway. There was a water bottle in the wastebasket ( I did not have any bottled water ) and there was a big ball of hair in the sink that was obviously not mine ( different length and texture ). I will NOT be back and I will let anyone who asks know what I think.

Nicely located to everything downtown. Will be back.

We stayed here for two nights during Movement Electronic Music Fest. The place was not very clean and had shady people hanging around. There was a human molar on our window sill in our room, not sure how that even happens...

I have stayed at the Shorecrest before and the service keeps getting better. Had a nice quiet stay for a reasonable rate near the downtown area. The motel staff was very nice.
