Arrived late to my room due to travel and work commitments. Had eaten previously so just wanted a drink - no water in the room so phoned for room service - £6 for a 1l bottle of water and £5 room service charge = £11 for a bottle of water!!! Eye watering rip off pricing and the only hotel chain I've stayed in recently where there is no complimentary water in the room. Ive had over 50 hotel business and leisure nights away this year and I now remember why I rarely choose the Hilton brand. The room was no better than basic and on the small side, the TV was poor and not up to date, the shower curtain had a musty smell. There are better hotels than this so I won't be back here and wouldn't recommend this at all.
Ok - so this is the largest hotel outside of London - bear that in mind. With that comes the joy of a lot of people attending various conferences/conventions etc. At the time I was there it managed to cater for at least 4 different parties of such variety - great fun if you are a people watcher. Caveat I was lucky enough to be on the fifth floor - so I know I had a better offer than some of my colleagues in other rooms. That said - the Executive lounge is not bad at all. It has been recently [well '90s] refurbished and there are free canapes/alcohol between 18.00 - 20.00. People did gather at those times but were not what I would term 'grabby'. Canapes were nicely served and there were a choice of at least four. Service ++ Excellent. I was with a 'gay' convention and there were absolutely no issues whatsover with the staff - either all had been extremely well versed or Birmingham is a hotbed of PC ness (!) Have to congratulate here. Room service was efficient, staff acknowledged you in the corridors and asked if it was ok to get in the lift with you. Wellness suite - same thing - very polite and helpful. Room + Have to give it a plus because the suite was spacious and clean. There was aTchibo coffee machine, fridge with two large bottles of Hildon water one sparkling/one still. Toiletries in abundance produced by 'Duck Island' which were pretty good quality. Shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, plus massage 'stuff', cotton buds, sewing kit etc etc. lots of sparkly white towels of different sizes and a kettle/good selection of teas/shortbread biscuits [mini] hidden under the tv area. i had problems with the air con and the tv remote but that could be because i was not entirely sober for the duration of my stay ... ahem. Food - Sorry people - this is where I have to mark you down. would have been a four otherwise. Not sure about the general hygiene of the place probably because it is so huge. Difficult to manage all aspects despite best efforts. Convention food had to be the blandest yet - i know you are catering for all needs but please not quite so plasticky? as for breakfast, agree re fabulous variety but again, not sure about key elements - there were people trying to keep it clean but there was a big demand on a small space which meant that some attention to detail was lost eg what was happening to serving spoons. a couple of people had dodgy tummies who were not drinkers which can only be down to what they ate - they were not together so had different things. If I could change one area it would be the size of the breakfast area - it's just too small. Wellness area Clean, lovely steam/small sauna areas. One of my colleagues was moaning that their gym club was better because of more room/hotter amenities - come on - pool was great, nice jacuzzi decent changing areas plus easy use - they give you a padlock with a key on a wristband so no problems with lockers etc Value for money Agree with someone else who said drinks were pricey - i paid £17 for a double baileys and double courvoisier - some may think that's ok. I don't think people come here to 'skimp' though judging by some of the bill bars I saw. I do think the higher up the scale the better the quality of what you get. General yes definitely perfect for big parties / business. Less so for an average family because there is so much going on and it's such a huge hotel. Sure parts of it are a little outdated [built in 70s] but I quite liked that - a throwback kinda retro feel. ....
Because of the Hilton name I had high expectations when visiting here but it is sadly dated both inside and out. A lot of effort has been put in to the ground floor to look more Morden but once you leave this area to the bedrooms the dated look returns. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but again have a very dated look to both the room and the bathroom. The rooms have interesting lighting in that there isn’t a main light so at this time of year with the nights getting dark early the room is quickly gloomy, there is mood lighting around the room which just means that you get one brightly lit corner. The corridors are also very gloomy. The gym and swimming pool are really good with plenty of options in the gym for cardio and weights. The breakfast is very nice with plenty of options, all self service.
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at am I'm a Hilton honours member. If this is how the Hilton chain treats guests I'll never steal at a Hilton hotel again Never stay here if you have a choice Room was meant to be Deluxe double but given standard twin still charged the extra Food was barely edible breakfast was disputing and had to resort to room service as Resturant was horrible food ordered fine Australian merlot at £29 given cheap chillian merlot and still charged for premium price contacted room service told it was the same thing and then they hung up on me WTF
We stayed here one night on a sleep n fly package We would defo use this hotel again. it was easy parking easy check in and all the staff so helpful and attentive Yes the drinks a little over priced as was the bar snacks but that's the way it is with these hotels and we expected it so we were not put off by this The bar snack was lovely and the waiter very attentive and kind They offered an early morn alarm call and a newspaper We got to reception earlier than expected for our free transfer and the very kind driver said he would take us earlier than planned That was kind., as it was 5am and at least we could get a coffee in the airport Very nice start to our hols, and transfer back was painless too . Takes around 10 mins Highly recommend the Hilton for airport parking
Booked the Hilton metropole with parking for the week we were in Spain, with 1 night stay when we landed back in UK Hotel is conveniently located with shuttle bus. Parked car at hotel and took their courtesy bus to BHX terminal and on arrival back we picked up the courtesy bus again back to hotel Courtesy bus dropped us outside departures, but on Arrival you need to head to the monorail which takes you to the train station/NEC and then head to the taxi rank... the Hilton courtesy bus stop is behind the taxi ranks. Check in was easy... staff very helpful The hotel is typical Hilton quality... rooms are well equipped but perhaps not the most spacious... the bathroom was a bit tiny but still had bath/shower sink and washbasin. Shower was a bit hot, the slightest turn of the temperature dial would either make a very hot shower or a very cold one! Beds were comfy and the room had complimentary tea and coffee. We arrived after 10pm so the restaurant was closed but room service offered a wide choice of food which was quickly delivered to our room. The delivery charge was £5 which is what yours expect Breakfast was excellent.... wide choice of hot and cold things and there was a chef preparing omelettes on request, and a staff member was walking around offering freshly prepared brownies. The food we had was very nice and tea, coffee, juices all good selection The hotel is easy to find, within the NEC campus and had plenty of parking Would recommend it and certainly we will consider booking again when flying from Birmingham
Delighted to discover that the hotel runs a shuttle bus service from Birmingham International. A courteous driver drove me to the hotel which took less than 10 minutes. The lobby area is spacious and rather grand. My double room was lovely and clean. I loved the fact my bed was firm (even though some of my colleagues thought the beds too firm). The leisure facilities are great. Large pool, jacuzzi and sauna are available. There is also a gym available too. Breakfast was a veritable feast. Omelettes and waffles made to order. Much to my delight they had a pancake machine as well!!! The event organiser had arranged lunch for the team. On both days we enjoyed three options (inc, vegetarian) for main course along with a choice of dessert. Service for food was a bit slow in the bar area later in the evening but overall staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
