Hotel rooms small but comfortable. Would have liked more closet space. I imagine great for a short term stay. But for one week or more a bit cramped space with no microwave or refridgerator in the room. Despite this enjoyed 2 week stay. Staff very pleasant and helpful. The biscuits in room a nice touch.
We dined in the restaurant over the weekend and found the food excellent as was the service. We’d particularly like to mention our waitress Jessica who went out of her way to help us. The two guys in the bar Rob and Greg are a good entertaining double act.
Just a quick stop but would definitely stay again. The staff are all amazing and friendly especially Angela on reception and Mike Cunningham the manager. They went out of their way to help us as we had a few transport issues that were nothing to do with the hotel. They made a very stressful day much better. Thanks guys xx
Arrived mid-afternoon on Saturday for our first visit to the Hotel. First impressions of the hotel were extremely positive - the hotel is modern and contempory and looks great. Check-in was quick and efficient and we were soon in our room, which was located in Garth House, one of the older buildings which has clearly been refurbished to a great standard. The deluxe double room was lovely, and the bathroom (with standalone bath) was spacious and stunning. We were provided with camp beds for the kids (8 and 10) and there was still plenty of space in the room. We later ate in the Hotel restaurant and both the food and service were great. The breakfast buffet was extensive and of great quality. After breakfast we made use of the University Sports Centre swimming pool which was a short walk away. We later visited Cadbury World which was only about 10mins drive away. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the kids had absolutely loved it. We will defintely be returning.
I chose this hotel based on good reviews but have been very disappointed. I found the hotel difficult to find with minimal signposts, as I saw the sign I was practically turning right and with cars behind me beeping horns was not a good place to be. On arrival the parking situation is not very clear (it was dark), there are approximately Ten spaces next to the hotel and if you cannot get a space you need to park in the multi-storey about 500 yards away but this is not well sign posted, you can only park on the ground floor. Check in took a while as there were quite a few people and only two staff. On check in you need to complete a car park ticket to display in your car, so you do need to go back to the car park, not ideal when it is raining heavily and dark. I asked if they could swipe my credit card for extras and was advised “that is not necessary”, ok I thought, until you order food and drink and you CANNOT charge to your room, everything needs to be paid for either with cash or card but is not put on your room bill, for those of you like me and on business it’s not ideal when doing your expenses. The bar service was slow, waited about ten minutes to get served, it was busy but only two staff serving and no apology for the wait, I also ordered a veggie curry but the description did not meet what I received, no mention of spinach in the curry but was lots of it (I hate the stuff), no mention of peas but again very prominent, the menu said it contained peppers but only one small one in my dinner, also was supposed to have cauliflower but not sign of that either, overall very misleading and not great if someone had an allergy. Overall I was not impressed and would 100% not return here, B&B was £190, not worth it at all.
Lovely modern hotel with great facilities. Fantastic location with easy bus service to centre of Birmingham. University Railway Station also very convenient. Reception staff particularly friendly & helpful with local information. Rhonda (possibly Rhona) went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. Told us about local attraction, Winterbourne House & Gardens, which is within walking distance and a great place to spend a few hours. Had a wonderful time - (thanks Billy). Can’t wait to go back.
A beautifully built hotel within the grounds of the University so convenient for stays there. Very modern decor and large spacious rooms. Not many hotels I have stayed in represent such good facilities for the price. However I cannot recommend the service on my visit. Check in was slow - painfully slow. Rather than take a car reg number I then had to go out in the rain to put a ticket in the car window. In the evening the 'systems' weren't working, and after ordering a couple of drinks at the bar I was told that I could not put it on my room, but had to go back to my room, get my wallet and pay. I felt like telling the bar worker to just pour the drinks back into the cans. The 'general manager' was very abrupt with me - what ever happened to customer service?. If this was a known issue why not tell me before I ordered the drinks. Several workers were clearly on first shifts and perhaps with the hotel busy they were all overwhelmed? We had a meal in the nice restaurant but the food was so slow in coming - and there were only around a dozen people in, that they gave us two free drinks. Breakfast was good but I also noticed that the housekeeping staff wedged open fire doors. Cleaning standards were average. TV service not good - speaker sounded like a paper cup and few channels that worked. Management need to make sure the service fits the decor - has the potential to be a great hotel. This is from a traveller who spends at least one night a week away in a hotel
Excellent location for the University. Everything is new and modern and the staff are very friendly.. The breakfast was really good and very reasonably priced. They also allow dogs so can’t wait to go back with our dog to visit our daughter at the Uni.
Visited this hotel to meet my Grandson who is in University. One night stay only. A very modern hotel in contemporary style. Very elegant. Room was small but well appointed with comfortable bed and comprehensive equipment. En suite shower room and toilet. Long walk to the room from the lift. Very comfortable and convenient for our purpose. Parking was in an associated multi story car park. We had an evening meal in the large and elegant bar area. Menu was essentially bar food but excellent quality and well presented. Extensive breakfast menu in the dining room. Price was reasonable for the quality of the hotel. Sited within the University Campus area and near to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Had a very comfortable stay here for about a week or so. The staff was quite helpful and friendly. Sophie and Matthias were superb representatives of the hotel . Hopefully we will come back to this lovely hotel.
