Hotel was a lovely place but OMG the hotel policies took over not giving the customer what they wanted .. the staff where mostly miserable and ignorant apart from one geezer on the front desk .. nothing wrong with the hotel but there was no extra mile for the customer
we stayed here on the return from our holiday in Thailand .the room was very clean and tidy .I loved the fact it had a bath as well as a very good shower .plenty off tea and coffee and water in the room .we had a great sleep the bed was comfy .we had food on the night it was very nice .we love the crowne plaza chain and we would recommend a stay here if your flying from Birmingham .there was a jolly guy on reception we had a lovely welcome keep up the great work .
The hotel is woefully uncomfortable. The bed was sagging in the middle with the mattress coils pressing into my back. The pillows were hard and lumpy causing my neck to crick. After suffering a bit of food poisoning (not at the hotel restaurant), I called for room service the following evening, requesting just some plain rice and a couple of ginger ales. I was told the rice could not be sold separately from the curry (fine), so having paid 14pounds for the curry, what came was a hard, dry clump of rice that I had to pick up and bite into to eat. Further, only one ginger ale was delivered. The server said he would bring another ginger ale, but never did. Not the quality I would expect from this hotel chain.
My friend booked 2 twin rooms at the Crowne Plaza on 6th May as we were going to see Take That. We arrived at the hotel at about 11.30 knowing that we couldn't check in until after 2pm. Not a problem. Our bags were placed in a secure room and off we walked to the train station to pop into Birmingham for a bit of shopping. When we got back to the hotel at about 5pm we were checked in by a really friendly lady on reception - heralding from Woolacombe - who couldn't do enough to help us. We went up to our rooms and cracked open the prosecco for a quick glass before getting changed and walking across the road to the Genting. After the concert the restaurants were all either closed or closing so we went to our rooms and ordered a selection of items from room service. The food was okay and delivered quickly. The following morning we went down to breakfast - which I have to say was really very good. Nothing too much trouble. At reception we were greeted by the same friendly face when checking out. We explained that we wanted to go shopping in Resorts World and she arranged an extension to our parking for the rest of the day. I would definitely recommend this Hotel - especially if you're going to a concert. I know that my friend uses booking.com to book hotels using their free cancellation option and she got a fantastic deal for us. It's a really nice, clean and friendly hotel in a great location for shopping weekends or, as i said before, if you're going to a concert or an event at either the Genting or the NEC.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night. Check in was quick although the receptionist did get our booking confused with someone else's which could have been an issue had I not realised. Our room was clean and tidy - all we needed for one night was provided. We had dinner in the hotel bar which was fine but expensive for what we had. For proximity to the NEC and train station this hotel was fine for the price paid and I would stay here again.
These types of hotel tend to be a means to an end. Somewhere convenient to stay with a known reputation and the ability to charge near premium prices as it is mainly business people staying there. The facilities are all there, the bed was extremely firm and the bar food acceptable. For one night it was fine.
Stayed here recently and on arrival was told my reservation had been cancelled because my credit card was not valid. The card was a Priority Club credit card which IHG had withdrawn from and I inadvertently overlooked the fact that I had closed the account as a result. I was told by Reception they had called me 3 times to arrange alternative payment but I had never received any call and neither had any voice mail message been left. Admittedly we were offered a room for the night but there was absolutely no acknowledgement of my Spire Ambassador membership and I was made to feel quite bad that I had not changed my card details for this reservation. OK it was my mistake but I didn't feel it was handled in an appropriate manner for a Crowne Plaza hotel.
V convenient for visit to NEC. Typical business hotel - open plan bar merging with lobby and not much character. Bedroom was v uncomfortably hot and couldn't turn down Aircon Reception did compensate by not charging the standard £10 parking charge Good buffet breakfast
I would really recommend this hotel for any traveller - business or otherwise. Easy to get to, fast check in, very clean everywhere and well organised. Rooms well furnished, lovely big towels (take note some hotels) and I really love the pack of sleep "solutions" that work so well - great touch. Excellent breakfast and very easy and quick check out. All in all a 10 out of 10 from me. The park and lake at the rear is also a delight and very easy to walk 2 minutes to the resort next door where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from as well as lounges, casino and cinema
I stayed for 3 nights mid week for business. The room was pretty much as I expected, it was clean and tidy and the bed was comfortable. The TV was OK but it had vertical white lines right down the middle of the screen, not a big deal as I didn't watch a lot of TV but a bit disappointing. The AC would make a clanking sound now and again so during the night I turned it off. The fridge made quite a lot of noise too, not very often but enough to be annoying in the middle of the night! I had breakfast and that was quite good. The biggest let down was the gym which was an absolute joke! It is tiny and had the worst set of equipment I have ever seen - 2 jogging machines, 1 bike, 1 rower, 1 cross trainer and 1 random weight machine. There were no free weights and there were no mats (and the floor was half stone tiles and half rough carpet tiles). Main reason why I am giving a 2/5 is the gym followed by the noisy fridge/AC. I have since heard that the best rooms are on the 5th floor so next time I stay I'll ask for a room up there! All the staff I spoke to during my stay were very helpful and friendly.
