Crowne Plaza Birmingham NEC4.0 out of 5.0

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Birmingham for the first time with regards to a works conference and was very impressed with the size and cleanliness of the room along with the little added extras like the bottled water, tea, coffee and biscuits, along with the traditional Corby trouser press and an iron. In the bathroom a full selection of mini hair and body products along with a note that other things are available via a call to reception (ie toothpaste etc) for the forgetful or un-organised traveller. The booking in and out was a breeze and the serve yourself full English / continental breakfast was really good freshly cooked and prepared, along with a attentive and friendly staff. All in all a really good experience, save for the Air Conditioning system both in my colleagues room and mine that buzzed all the time it was switched on, so was switched off over night
The hotel is conveniently located near the NEC and the train station is just 5 minutes walk (Birmingham Int'l Station). Breakfast is average, typical English breakfast however the service and the staff are just amazing.
Pros: Spacious rooms with a desk, hairdryer and a bottles of water with chocolate in room - lovely touch. Attention to detail is brilliant. Great view facing the NEC, close to places to eat next door, near the airport but no airport noise, close to NEC, friendly and personable staff. Staff printed out some documents for me without hassle or cost Cons: The aircon in the room is so noisy and cannot be turned off - I ended up calling reception and moving on the second night as the air con or fan above the door sounded like a whirring noise. I moved into a different room which wasn't making a noise but then around 3am it started doing it in there too. I am a sensitive sleeper but I could hear this noise with ear plugs in so I didn't get a very good nights sleep 2 nights in a row despite the beds being very comfortable.
At reception Edwina checked us in, helped with our luggage and was exceptional. Later a lovely member of the bar staff greeted us. Actually all the staff gave exceptional service. I seldom write good reports on hotels but the staff, quality of room and location with lakeside bars and restaurants make this an ideal place to visit.
I had stayed here previously for 5nights with work and it was good. This time we went with friends and immediately they had to change rooms due to the smell in the toilet. We found a left sock in our bedroom when we drew the curtains which did not make us feel the room had been well cleaned. Not really good enough.... The hotel were excellent in changing our friends room and getting ours cleaned. I cannot fault the customer service and also front desk service. We enjoyed our stay. It is well located to the arena. Lovely breakfast and the bar area is good and very sociable after a concert. I do however think the bar prices are ridiculously expensive.... £33 for a bottle of prosecco which is £6 in the supermarket. Will be back but please pay attention to detail re cleanliness of rooms.
Spent the weekend here so we could be close to Gardeners World Live and Good Food Show (wife's birthday treat). The first suite we had on arrival was great but the air conditioning was not working on one of the hottest days of the year, mentioned this to the management who offered a change of room but not until the next day. We were offered is a few bottles of water and a round of drinks which was nice. Had to pack up the next morning so our bags could be taken to the new room. New suite was not as good as the first one and the aircon was still not working on the next hottest day of the year, should have left us in the original room, it was nicer. 2 nights of uncomfortable sleep. The staff were really nice but the rooms were too hot to sleep in hence the 3* rating. Also there was no fridge in the rooms just cool boxes to keep the drinks cold, not cool them. The restaurant was ok but service was slow.
I stayed here with my aunt whilst attending the Good Food Show at Birmingham NEC. This is a really nice hotel with great staff and surroundings. Its also really convenient for the NEC which is just across the water. Lots of development next to the hotel also with a new shopping centre with bars and restaurants. The only issue we had was that my aunt was checked into an occupied room, but this was quickly rectified at reception. Would stay again and recommend.
On business in the week. Been on a couple of occasions and never been disappointed. Well appointed hotel and plenty of room. Staff all helpful and there to accommodate. Your needs, all very polite and helpful. Eat in the hotel. Food was very good didn't leave hungry.
We booked a room for the night before we flew on holiday, together with eight days on-site parking. The price was very reasonable, check-in was quick and easy, as was finding a parking space. The room was clean and very comfortable and all staff were polite and friendly. We had a meal and drinks in the bar, again very reasonably priced. We will definitely stay here again.
We arrived early before our room was ready. The receptionist took our bags off us and showed us where we could get a coffee. 15 minutes later she came back to tell us our room was ready. The room was large and airy, well lit. The bathroom modern and clean. Heaps of parking but it costs you £10 per day. Breakfast next day was good, plenty of choice at the buffet with a member of other options cooked to order Only two times on the downside. The air conditioning unit had a rattle and didn’t seem to be able to get the temperature below 22. The restaurant is quite large. Why is then that when it is 90% empty they show the next person to arrive for breakfast to the table next to us? Why not space us out?
