IHG Member and booked Queen room with balcony. Nice room but have built Genting Hotel since I was last here so view from balcony is very restricted by Genting and also overlooked by Genting high floor rooms. Public bar area a bit soulless but service ok and friendly, room nice. Haven't eaten here tonight as have been on Northern Belle today with 7 course lunch so haven't eaten here tonight. Probably beat hotel on NEC site but also most expensive.

Attended here over a weekend , the venue is set in lovely grounds and is very large with Great amenities. Lots of things going on , weddings, parties , business functions. bar is quite expensive , staff clean and nice. Rooms well presented and clean.

Booked this hotel primarily due to it's proximity to the Genting Arena as we were going to see Elbow in concert. The hotel was busy due to this and from flight cancellations from the airport due to the adverse weather. Check in staff were friendly but busy when we arrived at around 3pm. It seemed to take a while to check people in, which resulted in a bit of a queue. Room was fine.. It was a good size and clean, perhaps a little shabby in places but nothing significant. A nice big comfy bed too! Bar staff were friendly and the food was good... although our order would hardly have troubled the chef! Breakfast the following morning was equally as good and a good selection. Without exception the staff we encountered were friendly. All in all, this did everything we wanted it to do. It's a little bit of a sterile business like environment, which I'm not the biggest fan of but then for an airport hotel, you can't really expect much more.

It is with great sadness that I write this review. I was so excited to be staying at the Crowne Plaza and hoped this would be the start of many visits to this chain - I have upcoming trips to London, Berlin and Hamburg which I had been looking to frequent Crowne Plaza, instead I don't know if I would trust them with another return.  The following may be interpreted as the ramblings of a drama queen, however, I paid to be treated like a princess and instead felt like an inconvenience to the staff. To set the context, I bought my husband tickets to see Elbow and to further improve our treat I booked us a suite at the Crowne Plaza NEC. I wish I hadn't.  We arrived at 2.30pm, half an hour after check in was available, to be told by an incompetent member of staff that the suite wasn't ready, despite check in being at 2.... He was obviously flustered and offered no apology or explanation. After asking how long it would be several times he just kept picking up the phone and ignoring us. I was visibly upset as the reason for booking a suite was to truly spoil my husband NOT for us to be ignored. Finally after my husband's suggestion and myself outright asking we were given vouchers for 1 drink each and told to wait in the bar for 30 minutes.  Please note that this room cost me £234, for this sort of money I expect my room to be ready when I arrive! After 40 minutes no one had come to find us, we went to the desk again and were ignored. When we finally spoke to a lady she laughed at us. She made us feel guilty for being upset. The hotel didn't have the room ready, yet we were made to feel like the bad guys. What kind of hospitality is this? My husband and I aren't unreasonable people, and we appreciate sometimes things go wrong. However, manners and good service would have shut down this issue within moments.  I am not a hotelier, however, if this were my establishment this is how I would have handled this; - First of all, apologise. You messed up. Own it. - Secondly, supply clear information, if the receptionist had said " I am sorry we have a staff shortage due to the snow, the room will be ready in 40 minutes, please accept some complimentary drinks and I will come find you as soon as the room is ready", then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Instead we got ignored.  - Thirdly, if you have a limited supply of suites and you know the room is booked (months in advance) then prioritise your cleaning staff. People who book suites are either on business and have no time for inefficiency or treating themselves and want to feel special. In the time we waited several other guests were given their room keys indicating that standard rooms were prioritised. - Finally, hire good staff. After we finally got the room, we were offered free breakfast - to which I showed her we already had breakfast included. She was not happy about this and said "they didn't tell us that ".... who is they?! The door to the lounge was locked so I had to trudge back downstairs to have it opened. The room also stated complimentary drinks, which transpired to be two bottles of water. I had to ring and ask for the White Company toiletries (an explicit part of the deal that I booked) The bar staff were slow, we were told to take a seat but it took me returning to the bar to get served. By this point the whole experience was ruined. I am utterly disappointed and sad. They ruined the present for my husband. Honestly, if they had handled the situation I wouldn't be writing this review. Horrible. Also the room is a bit blah, not the standard that I expect. But Elbow were awesome.

Sadly we stayed here for three nights. Several months before arrival we requested a top floor room as we are both light sleepers and we were told this was no problem. However upon check in we were told that the top floor had been booked out to an airline. Later that day though friends of ours also staying at the hotel confirmed that they were given top floor rooms so someone was obviously not doing their job very well here. The room provided was tiny with wallpaper peeling and bits of plastic trim missing where cables, presumably power cables, were housed. There where food remnants on the curtains and unbelievably even on the and walls and ceiling. It looked like someone had had a food fight and the ceiling and walls were only partly cleaned. Please see pictures. The assistant manager came to the room and agreed that it was way below Crowne Plaza standard but stated that the hotel was full and refused to compensate in anyway. What was of greatest concern though was the fact that there was a very sharp protrusion from the bathroom floor which I stepped on getting out of the shower. It cut me open and was very painful causing discomfort for several weeks afterwards. I contacted the hotel immediately and asked for if a first aid kit and first aider could be brought to the room but after 20 minutes nothing arrived. The same thing happened again until eventually I hobbled down to reception and, after several requests was given a cleansing wipe with which to see to myself. I asked for a first aider but they said none were available and that they didn't have a first aid kit. I also asked to fill in an accident report form and was told by the front desk manager they did not have one. The above are legal requirements hence the title of this review with the strong word, negligent. The negligence continued after I insisted hotel maintenance go and check the room. They did and acknowledged the protrusion from the bathroom floor and I was told literally not to step on it again.... that was it, no repair, no substitute room. It was clearly not in a state fit for guests. I think any reasonable person would call this negligence. In trying to follow this up I have been lied to by hotel staff and after repeated attempts to get some actual customer service, ignored. I'm a IHG platinum elite member and IHG head office are taking it very seriously, awaiting my feedback. Sadly as this is an owner managed property there's not actually a lot they can do to remedy the experience but they did confirm that they have received several complaints about this specific property and suggested that I take legal action against them! I must admit the Head Office staff were very helpful and made a number of suggestions so this is no way reflects my opinion of Crowne Plaza in general. But, this is a dreadful, dreadful Hotel that doesn't deserve any affiliation with IHG whatsoever. My wife is a journalist and witnessed all of these events first hand so you may be reading about it in full detail elsewhere. I'll endeavour to update this review if I finally receive a resolution from the hotel or with the eventual outcome of any legal action taken. Until then I would rather stay in any other hotel locally but this one.

My last experience at this hotel left much to be desired - I am pleased to report that things have improved considerably! A warm welcome at reception ( much better) A great welcome to breakfasts from the team ( especially our friend from Hungary!) A little concerned re the 'service charges being applied at the bar! Watch those bills - we found that even when ordering drinks at the bar the 'discretionary' 10% was often added - some staff advised that this 'happened automatically' - but strange that when served by other staff it didn't happen. As a group we took a photo of our receipts - and where the charge had been 'pre-levied I noted on the final bill that these charges had been removed - thank you!

We were attending an exhibition at the NEC and thought it was too far to drive home into time for the last ferry. So we booked this hotel and in the main we were quite pleased. The plus points were the staff who were friendly and efficient and the quality of the food which was good at the evening meal and breakfast. The down side was the quality of the the bed which was very bouncy and the AC which had a life of its own as we couldn't find any instructions. The bathroom needed an upgrade and although there was a bath the water was not really hot enough. Maybe a better shower would be a better idea? If you need a hotel right next to the NEC this is a good choice.

I stayed here last weekend for 3 nights. While the room was perfect and very clean I did find that the Customer Service in general was not up to scratch. I asked to pay for a late check out on the Sunday and was told that the hotel was fully booked and I couldnt. This was obviously not true as there were rooms still available to purchase online. We were in the bar on the Saturday and asked for the TV station to be changed to another sporting channel, bearing in mind that the bar was not busy at all, it took 30 mins to change the channel. This was only done after I went to the front desk to have it followed up as I was getting no joy from the bar staff. On check out, bearing in mind that I had prepaid for Bed and Breakfast, staff attempted to charge me for this again. I would have been double charged had I not have spotted it. Overall not good enough customer service.

Stayed here one night for a work stay. Check in was easy and everything was ready, the staff were police and attentive. The room was good, it was clean and tidy. The bed was comfy and I liked the aromatherapy spray and oil - I gave it a go and certainly slept well. Had everything you need from a bathroom perspective and could call down if you needed anything more. Great location if you are staying alone as you can go into Resort World and there are plenty of places to eat, you can also have a good walk around the lake if you want to stretch your legs. Breakfast in the morning was all set up and i was down there pretty early, food was good and hot and a good selection. Couldn't fault the staff and the service they gave at breakfast. Only downside is that i called and reported I had left my iPhone charger in the room but no one ever called back. A shame that no one called, even to say it was not found.

We visited the NEC for a show and decided to go over 2 days with a stay at the nearby Crowne Plaza having previously stayed at the holiday inn, which is a considerable distance further away from the exhibition centre. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised to see just how close it was! Being aware that most city centre or attraction location hotels have a parking charge, we were not surprised by this (plus we checked ourselves beforehand too - not the Hotels fault if I don't read the info!) and though the show had free parking, the convenience of having the car so close for the 2 days was well worth it! We checked in late afternoon on Saturday with a very friendly young lady in training - she did ask if we wanted to add breakfast for our child and was incredibly apologetic when we pointed out it was free breakfast for children... She gave us a little gift bag with some sweets inside - which the kid was very impressed with. Got to our room, and though it was a little smaller than many Crowne Plaza 'family' rooms we had stayed in previously, it had everything we needed and was clean - heating/aircon worked perfectly We went to Resorts World for some food in the evening and were faced with long waits for a table, so we decided it would be more comfortable to go back to the Hotel - we enquired about a table when we were asked if we would mind returning in 30 minutes, this was no issue at all and we went to the bar for a drink before going back down to the restaurant. In the bar our small person had seen something on the bar menu that she would like and the restaurant were more than happy to get this for her, our meals were delicious, and the service went way beyond helpful and attentive, the waitress (Jade?) was chatty and incredibly attentive and nothing was too much trouble for anyone in the restaurant. We slept well, hearing the usual 'Hotel noises' during the night - usually inconsiderate guests slamming doors late at night - next morening we went down for breakfast, which whilst it appears really quite expensive, very much set us up for the day! There was an incredible amount of choice, and it was all very fresh - kiddo liked the smoothies in shot glasses - when we were getting ready to leave the table, a waitress convinced us to try one of the waffles with fruit, and Oh My Word, it was delicious! In short, a great stay at a great location! Attentive staff, clean and warm room, delicious food... couldn't ask for anything more!
