Lovely place staff very attentive, room very nice and had a great stay will definitely return at some point in future, very relaxing and ideal for night away, lots of local places to eat and local taxis available if needed reception warm and welcoming
We spent a couple of nights here, was beautiful, the room was stylishly large with amazing large ceilings, bathroom was luxurious. I would highly recommend this place. In terms of price the Marriott is always doing offers, so there's always an opportunity to find a great deal.
Our company booked us into this hotel for one evening due to a 2 day Team Event. Upon arrival the reception staff were very friendly / professional and we received a warm welcome, they even offered to store our cases as it was to early to to go to our rooms which was understandable, due to cleaning from previous guests. Once the event ended for the day we returned back to reception to check in and collect our cases and was told they had already been delivered to our room, lovely gesture. Room was clean and well presented with tea/coffee facilities and shower gel/soap/shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. Our evening meal was average due to the long wait and eventually when it arrived it was not very hot, but as I was hungry I ate it, there was a wait for dessert to arrive which I commented on for the delay and a member of staff offered us coffee as a good will gesture. Breakfast the following morning was good with plenty of choices from full English to continental although it was not very hot. I would like to say that the Marriott looked after us all very well whilst our event took place and supplied us with snacks and tea and coffee on both days which were yummy. The bed was extremely comfortable and had a good sleep. Credit to all the staff for looking after our needs and were always courteous and friendly.
This Marriott Hotel in Birmingham (or rather the outskirts) has grandiose and is of an age therefore has its limitations because of this. On first impression parking is limited in capacity and at £13 per day over room rate (which is a touch galling) however given its location it deters those not staying I suppose. The entrance is in keeping with its age with wood panelling adorning the walls, we were greeted with gusto but somewhat perturbed when our receptionist suggested the largest Primark in Europe being one of the highlights of the area - perhaps she pigeon holed us into a type.... Our room was 315 which was a family room of good proportion with plenty of space to accommodate our family and two double beds as requested with a very large bathroom. The standard of the bedding was good, the carpet a little careworn (which ran through the whole floor and was of a similar age) Our extra towels and pillows were in place which showed attention to detail. The room was quiet due to secondary glazing and was decorated to a good standard. We used the swimming pool which was small and again alongside the changing rooms showed its age. The team in the bar were accommodating changing channels so we could watch football again indicative of the service. Bar costs were in keeping with city centre establishments. Breakfast on day one was good (we were early) everything was hot, the selection seemed somewhat limited by comparison to other Marriott hotels. Returning in early evening there was still parking available and again the bar was accommodating when visited. The gym was compact and of a decent standard of equipment. Breakfast on day two was busier and the hot food seemed to have stood for a time, someone needs to be on top of this after all at these costs it is not to standard having buffet food stood degenerating in its own juices! Marriotts are expensive, you expect a standard by going to them, Birmingham has the ability to achieve those high expectations but fails by a neck due to its need to refurbishment - more money needs ploughing back in to make that feeling just that little bit more special than it was - a shame.
Booked some treatments at the spa with friends, advised to put our car reg in the system in the spa which we did, since received a parking fine for £100. Great way to treat customers. Avoid at all costs.
Good location for Birmingham city centre and it’s walkable (even when heavily pregnant) to the NIA. Parking was good even though there was an additional charge for it. There’s a supermarket a short walk down the street which was convenient too. We were rushing to go out for the evening so we had room service. It wasn’t amazing but good quality. The pool was nice and quiet and not full of kids. It was warm too.
I stayed at this hotel for a week - I was the organiser of an event. The building is an old one, with an eclectic mix of styles, including original or carefully restored features dating back to Edwardian times. I liked the spacious halls and high ceilings, and could not see any tired parts; this hotel is well maintained. My room was nice, decorated in beige and cream with with a decent view of the park and a modern, super clean bathroom. Massive high-tech TV which you could synch with your Netflix sub or just use in the traditional way. Food generous and freshly cooked, with a real effort to include healthy options. We loved the 'help yourself' bar which saves on waste. The breakfast oatmeal was a high point, as were the muesli snack bars and the "Caesar Salad Station". The staff at this hotel are outstandingly helpful, and never leave a guest wondering where to go etc. Handover is a strong point also. Excellent steam bath!
Now, I stay here for business regularly and it suits my pocket and as my headline states ‘it’s a Marriott - it’s an oasis throughout the world or classic American influences.’ The reception staff are always helpful and friendly; trying very hard to remember names and faces...nice touch! The breakfast and bar food staff again happy, polite and helpful. But, you must remember that a service charge is placed on your bill every time you order your food from the bar...quite a nice earner with over 100rooms. ( that maybe why we get service with a smile!) Rooms are Marriott rooms of a certain style and design. Beds very comfortable but be aware not everyone is on a business trip and so noise of party goers and young families will disturb you, so be prepared and bring ear plugs. I have suggested that those on business or on their own should be placed in quieter areas and unfortunately families or amorous couples get their areas. But every time I ask ‘ any parties or conventions’ at every hotel and I get caught - every time!! So gym is ok but ceiling is low so no star jumps. Try walking up and down stairs to keep fit as it’s only 5 floors with a max of 150 steps -totalling one full fat cappuccino. The hotel is fine as it’s not in the noisy part of town with all amenities within 15 mins. Reasonable amount of parking but it should be enforced as a couple of times, those using gym for an hour, take the spaces and I pay £13 a night for parking, if I get a space.
Chose this hotel for a 1 night stop on my partners birthday on the way to a day out. The hotel was excellent from the friendly staff at check-in, to the nice pool to relax in, great rooms and a fantastic breakfast. They even sent up a free Happy Birthday cheese cake for my partner without asking, nice touch.
Good hotel, facilities fine and clean. However to get from city centre to hotel you need to cross a busy roundabout. While using the underpass my husband was set upon by a group of young lads who tried to kick him to the ground to rob him. Luckily he escaped with bruises only. When he reported it to hotel staff they were not interested.
