What a shame we had a one night stay in Stratford to visit the theatre, we definitely could not have stayed for a 12th Night. There are so many good aspects to this hotel that I would recommend a stay, the disappointment is the attitude of most of the staff when something goes wrong. I will start with the first impressions...... The hotel is located very conveniently for a visit to Stratford, very central and a short walk to the theatre ( approx 10 mins). Our room was clean. I would ask for a different room next time as room 38 is overlooking the walk to the car park.......it's not even the lack of view that as the issue, it was the room's lack of blinds or something else that provided privacy. With so many people passing by they could see in, your only way to get privacy was to draw the curtains and make the room dark........... a small point, but one that would make the room much better. We booked our evening meal at he Bistro ( recommend booking in advance as it can get busy). The meal was excellent value for money........good food and good choice with the set menu. The Service was friendly....... We enjoyed the meal, the Bistro did get busy and has a nice atmosphere. We slept well with comfortable beds, especially the pillows. However the concerns started in the morning........... No hot or even Luke warm water, so unless you enjoy a cold shower in November you could not shower. I do t mind shaving with cold water when I go camping, but not when I am in a hotel. When we checked out we mentioned the concern at the reception, we were told that it has effected the entire hotel and that the boilers will be fixed in 4 hours. I had expected more, if the hotel management knew.........why did they wait till we complained before they mentioned it. A better approach would have been an apology right from the start and an offer of a discount on our next stay. This is not good enough as we paid for the facility to shower and it was not provided. We went for breakfast, it was clearly a busy morning and we waited to be seated. We waited 10 minutes whilst staff walked by, eventually a member of staff came to us and said that we need to wait in the lobby and would be called as they were busy. After a wait of 15 minutes we were called through for breakfast. We were told to help ourselves to the buffet (which is cereal and a continental type breakfast), the system is that you then look at the breakfast menu and then order your breakfast (eggs, bacon etc). There was very little on the buffet........ Probably because of the previous busy period. After 30 mins and not been attended by a server to order do our breakfast, we were told it would take 15 mins. By now the restaurant was a third to half full......so not busy. The buffet still had not been replenished, and there was nothing remaining...........It was as though they have an allocation for the day, and would not fill anymore whilst guests were waiting. After 30 mins of waiting for our breakfast following the order I asked to speak to the duty manager (who is a lady that had spent the morning looking very miserable when attending tables), she did not come to our table. Instead a server came. I asked him what was the problem as we had waited an hour........his instinct was to challenge me that it was not an hour rather than explaining the problem. I told the server that I was disappointed as the approach was disrespectful as it was only the coffee and tea guy ( Nick) would had shown any courtesy to the guests by apologising to every table he visited ........... No one else made an attempt to explain. Our breakfast arrived when we were discussing with the server (a nice coincidence), however after continuing to find the server very defensive we had lost our appetite and said it could be offered to some of the guests who had only waited 50 mins. There were plenty of people who were waiting and clearly disappointed. The whole restaurant had unacceptable delays without courtesy from the management, only one of the team appeared to understand customer service....... Very different from our experience on the previous evening. We left the restaurant and the server followed us and seemed to want to continue to argue and be defensive ......... His comment was that the breakfast is freshly cooked. I knew that, and I that's why I paid for it when booking my hotel room......... I would have thought that the hotel could have coped a little better as they would have cooked breakfast before. I can assure you that my comments are not much Ado about nothing. I do hope the management of this hotel take note........ You did not deliver on our contracted goods, and then did not deal adequately when there was a problem..
We came for a stay to go the rsc. You can’t get closer as it faces the rsc across the river. It has a car park and 2 lovely restaurants on site. The staff headed by Francesco couldn’t be more helpful and when I messed up my booking couldn’t have assisted me more and so I arrived with a positive attitude to the hotel and was not let down. The room was spotless with cotton bedding complimentary tea coffee fresh milk water and toiletries Lovely walk in shower too. Breakfast in chez Pierre was lovely cooked to order and served with a smile I liked it here and 2 of us had b & b for 2 nights with dinner one night for £269 Real value.
The hotel has been excellent in the past but is looking a bit tired. Staff are lovely but sparse so service is not what it was. We will visit again but hopefully there will be some improvement. It was our favourite hotel in Stratford.
Booked this Hotel before reading your reviews, some of which were quite damning. Although booking in is at 3pm, we arrived at 1,30. and were allowed to book in straight away. The first room smelt of smoke, although it's a non smoking Hotel. We were given another room which was O.K. Although the Hotel looks a bit tired, this was made up for by the friendlyness of the staff. Ate in the attached Bistro for lunch, and although not up to Cote bistros standard, it was O.K. Breakfast was brilliant.
Unfortunately we had a very patchy stay. On arriving at reception and waiting quite some time there was no "sorry for the wait" or "we'll be right with you", and the lobby was continuously full with large groups. The lady behind the desk did kindly give us a double when we had inadvertently booked a twin. We had specified a quiet room and were given a room facing the inside of the hotel grounds, but there was a very loud external fan and the room was stiflingly hot. When we returned quite late we found the air con was not working. We phoned reception who asked us what the code was and when they confirmed it was the code they suspected told us the air con was broken. We were given a fan and were told they'd turn the heating (!!) off but even with the window open the 5cm maximum it was absolutely boiling and very uncomfortable. When I reported this the next day I was told quite dismissively the air con was not broken (as I had been told) but they don't have it on in October. If I had known it would have been that hot I would never have booked the hotel and can't believe they had the heating on, it really ruined our night. Unfortunately this was not the only issue; the shower was like a trickle, the pillows were awfully soft with no spares and the room walls had scuff marks all over the place. The bed and shower were clean but there were marks over all the walls....frankly for the price it was not good enough and I felt any feedback at reception went over their heads. A good location and parking was fine but would certainly not recommend.
Its a good location, within walking distance of the town and next to the River Avon and attractions but the room we got was definitely not worth the rate. Car park is handy but we luckily got the last space, would have been hassle if we had got there later. Receptionist was friendly and helpful. Room was large but not overly clean. Bathroom was tired looking. Our room was on ground floor directly facing the main road so bit noisy. Breakfast was good and cant fault the staff, all very helpful. Just a bit too expensive and not value for the money IMO.
Given the choice I would always stay here when I go to Stratford because of its proximity to the Theatres. The rooms have lots of quirky features and are all different. Breakfast in the French Bistro is good too. Watch out for the car park police - I wasn't issued with a parking permit on checking in and found a £85 fixed price notice on my windscreen. However, this was quickly dealt with.
Stayed one night, on arrival meal had not been booked by central booking, but told its probably better to eat across the road at their sister hotel, room very tired and dated, bath didnt drain properly so filled up whilst showering, toilet seat had chunk out of it, they didnt feel the need for a blind on the huge bathroom window, bedroom window had 1 net curtain missing! Perhaps no one could see in the last window??? Could hear someone upstairs walking around for hours as floor boards creaked with every movement!!! Meant we had an awful nights sleep, Food was dry and average, the hotel staff referred to the hotel as faulty towers which said it all, reception said yes lot's of people complain about the issues i raised!!! Have stayed in macdonald hotel before but this is definitely not luxury and premiere inn would be a better choice by miles.
Stayed for 2 nights for a girls weekend. When we arrived we were informed there were no room keys so we couldn’t get into our room without someone assisting us - not ideal!. The room we had was small and had a large bathroom - I would have preferred a bigger room and smaller bathroom - however is was comfortable and adequate for 2 nights. The evening entertainment is the bar was excellent on the Friday evening - a brother and sister duo who were excellent! Saturday night was poor with an 80s wanna be who sang a lot of 80s music badly! Overall the price we paid and the rooms and service we got was ok - however I probably wouldn’t stay i this hotel if I was in the area again.
£205 for two adults in one double bedroom with breakfast, outrageously poor value, particularly when the room was tatty, tired and tiny, shower just managed to sprinkle enough water to wash your hair, bar smelt disgusting, ladies toilets caused my wife to be sick and when she reported it to the receptionist he shrugged his shoulders and said, what do you want me to do, I’m the only one here. Even more outrageous was the fact that for £205 you had to pay an additional £5 to park your car!!!! Quite frankly, the local hostel would have provided more atmosphere, comfort and customer care. Whoever wrote the description of the hotel on the website should be awarded a prize for creativity. Despite this we managed to laugh it off and make the most of a very poor quality hotel.
