I used this hotel for both business and leisure purposes whilst in Sheffield for the weekend. From a leisure point of view I could not fault it - the lobby, welcome . check in . room status (ie cleanliness ) and leisure facilities were first class. The bed was comfortable but the pillows need serious consideration (very uncomfortable) .The spa is a little dated- Its in a good central location with lots of nearby restaurants. The hotel staff (from a leisure point of view ) were very friendly. From a business point of view we have already considered using another venue for next year. We had a celebratory event here but had no point of contact, the bar staff on the evening were miserable and unhelpful to say the least. Their whole manner in fact put a downer on what potentially could have been a great night. Worthy of 4/5 stars if from a leisure perspective but a very poor service and unfortunately I suspect a minority of staff members let the hotel down .
I stayed here for 4 nights in early November on business. The hotel is very central with a great selection of bars and restaurants around it. The hotel is very modern and the rooms are a good size, very modern and the bathroom was lovely. my room overlooked the fountains and was a great base for the week. The breakfast was excellent. However room service was terrible. Bland pasta and they forgot half the order and little to no apology. Additionally one morning there was no hot water in the hotel due to a burst water main. Again when I spoke to receptionist there was no apology just a basic explanation that they were trying to fix it. All in all I would recommend the hotel because it is good value for money but a little bit customer care would be appreciated.
Having stayed at this hotel more than 20 times, I’ve always booked the same place when I’ve visited Sheffield due to the location, decent breakfast and clean feel. Unfortunately, I have stayed last night for the last time as it’s just not what it used to be. Customer service needs to improve. We were told that we had gowns in our room upon check-in. When we noticed they weren’t there, we asked at the spa reception where they wanted to charge us £10 for the privilege of renting one. When she realised we’d been mistakenly told we had one, she called to the main desk to explain. They said they’d have to charge £10 regardless and said the woman must have thought I was on a different package (which is ridiculous as she had it on the computer screen). A small gesture would have been to give the gowns anyway... When we arrived at the spa, I couldn’t believe how different it was since my last visit. Floors were dirty, fixtures were cracked and lots of extra furniture had been crammed into the spaces around the pool which were all draped with towels, robes, some coffee cups and biscuit wrappers. There were lots of people there (no space to go into steam room or sauna) yet no staff to maintain any kind of housekeeping. There was an awful smell lingering and we left the pool area after 5 minutes. We booked afternoon tea with our room package and arrived to the bar to order it. I was surprised when it was brought out immediately (despite us not reserving a time in advance) but it immediately became clear that these trays of food had been prepared well in advance and must have been sitting out all day due to the hardness of the bread. We ate the cakes and informed the waiter of the issues. He did offer to replace the sandwiches but, as we’d already been there for 20 minutes and had some cake, we declined. The room was nice and clean, although the bath in our room was not up to the cleaning standard expected and had a rough grimy texture. Goodbye from a very loyal couple.
We had a really lovely stay at the Mercure, the staff were fantastic, and were helpful throughout our stay. The staff really make the place tbh. The lobby and bar area are impressive, although we didn't have time to get a drink during our stay. The rooms were decent, plenty of mirrors to get ready, decent size bathroom, and the shower was fine. I used the spa facilities, the range of facilities were great : pool, steam room, sauna, ice room, and sensory room, all helped me feel rejuvenated after a night out clubbing. The spa could be better signposted it's a bit of a maze, and the changing rooms and showers, need a bit of tlc, as do the facilities, although everything was fine to use, it wasn't great to look at, felt a bit tired and grubby, functional enough but not luxurious, and did let the place down a little. Overall we had a great stay, and I would stay again.
Excellent location in Sheffield close to Millennium Galleries including John Ruskin's Guild of St George Museum. Friendly, professional staff make for a great hotel stay. The Mercure is also close to welcoming coffee shop Marmaduke's
fine as usual except for the hot water - which was dark brown and no pre-warning when I checked in. It was disappointing as I usually have no issues and find I get great service here. I wasn't able to get a shower or bath
I stayed twice over two weeks for work and thought the impressive lobby was the highlight of this hotel. The pillows are the worse I’ve come across in a long time, I mentioned this after my first night’s stay but came back to find that they hadn’t been changed. One of them was so thin it looked like it had been run over by a steam roller. On my second stay I got into bed to find that there was a single duvet in a king-size quilt! To be fair someone did pop up within 30 minutes to change it for me, but this necessitated me getting dressed (no dressing gowns) and going to bed later than I wanted. How housekeeping could have put a single duvet in a king-size quilt and thought this would be acceptable is beyond me. The room was large but sparely furnished so it felt echoey rather than inviting. Nice to have a separate shower cubicle but it was showing signs of wear and tear. Another issue is the poor soundproofing, between rooms and in the corridors – add this to slamming doors means a good night’s sleep is hard to come by. A shame as the lobby promised so much.... I will add that the charming man on reception couldn’t have been more understanding about my issues, he’d requested the pillows be changed but this wasn’t completed by housekeeping and was equally perplexed by the single duvet. He also offered for someone to contact me to discuss, I declined the time but then as part of an online survey for the hotel I provided my contact details but no one bothered to call me back. With other good hotel choices in Sheffield (I am in the Leopold this week and its great) I see no reason to give this hotel another chance.
Lovely hotel. Very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Would defiantly recommend it. If I had one small moan, it was the last day at breakfast - two slices bread had a little mould on the crust - this however was rectified and the management was very apologetic. I would stay here again!
I stayed with my wife for a Saturday night.We were checked in really early by the very smiley Amelia.She took in our luggage and that was placed in our room ...so we didn't even have to take it there ourselves ! The room was huge with a fridge safe and complementary toiletries..great shower enclosure too.That makes such a change from the shower over the bath. We are out but came back for drinks and were served by a very lovely Greek lady. There was a wedding party in the hotel but I slept like a log. The next day we were checked out by Aurelija who kindly looked up Amelia's name when I asked for her assistance. It was so refreshing to deal with some smiling cheerful staff who wanted to help their guests.It really does make all the difference. Nearly forgot the porter who was working Sat and Sunday morning.He helped me with some very clear directions to the car park and stopped what he was doing to steer me in the right direction. Last but not least a big thank you to the manager,Sandeep who was there when we checked out. We will come again.
I attended a company dinner here and everything was perfect from the drinks reception with the most amazing view, to the gorgeous food in a private room. Every member of staff was efficient and friendly and made it an evening to remember.
