Leopold Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Fabulous old school building from 1874 sensitively converted into a boutique hotel but retaining some excellent pictures, plaques and items, such as cloak room pegs, from its past. The room we stayed on was spotless, modern but with a high ceiling and 3 large windows backing on the Leopold Square with its range of bars and restaurants. Breakfast was excellent and staff, friendly, chatty and polite - a credit to the hotel. Location could not be more central and the only thing stopping this being a 5 star rating was the bar which was tidy and clean but just a bit stark. I am sure there could be a better use of space. That said, would definitely stay here again.
This was the weekend to tend family graves at St Michael’s Rivelin and to catch up with old friends. First time at this hotel / charming ambiance right in the city centre and close to loads of restaurants. Room spacious. The staff were helpful and charming. This is a hotel we will return to when we visit Sheffield again. Parking close by and easy to get to
We stayed here on a Saturday night, the location was perfect both for covering a lot of the city on foot and also for public transport as it is close to both a tram and a bus stop. We had arrived into the city by train so this was perfect for us. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and cosy. Service at reception for check in and check out was excellent and breakfast was very nice too. The only downside was the noise until late at night from the venues in the square behind, not sure whether this was just because it was a Saturday night or just a one off. Would definitely return.
On the plus side, the hotel's location is right in the centre of Sheffield and the hotel offers parking for a reasonable fee in a public car park close by. The room was ok, what you would expect from a typical business hotel. The rooms are in an annex, however, not in the historic building that features in the photos posted on Trip Advisor. I had an issue with the service though: Being presented with a bill for the bar at check-out, I pointed out the error since I had not used the bar, only to be interrogated by the lady at the check-out desk whether I had "really" not used the bar. I didn't appreciate that.
My wife and I stayed on Wednesday night as she had to attend a course in Sheffield on Thursday. Check in was very easy.. shown the room by the staff and was complimentarily upgraded to a lovely2 floor suite. We had a late checkout complimentary added and in room facilities were fine. The only downside was that we arrived late and were hungry. We ordered a pizza from room service.. the first pizza was over cooked and completely stuck to the cooking paper at the base. This was replaced by an undercooked pizza ( the dough was still raw). We discussed this in the morning with the reception staff and the pizza was deducted from our bill. Pizzagate aside we will probably use the hotel again on our next visit to the city.
I have stayed at this hotel several times over the last 10 years as I have a friend who lives in Sheffield. This time my best friend and I decided to upgrade to a mezzanine suite as we were both celebrating our birthday. We received a warm welcome on our arrival and whilst we went out to lunch our bags were taken to our room. The room was immaculately clean and the bed was super comfy and due to it being our birthday complimentary champagne was left for us with a birthday card. We overlooked the street at the front of the hotel but could not hear any traffic noise. At breakfast the following morning we were treated like royalty, with staff members wishing us happy birthday. We had a wonderful stay and can't wait for our next visit.
Great location and lovely exterior building, feels very upmarket, inside modernised as well as feeling a little shabby in places. Great service, really helpful and friendly. Rooms seemed small but well equipped with toiletries and lovely bathroom. Breakfast on the lower ground floor, nice setting but slightly cramped. Choice of breakfast is a full English (vegetarian supplied too) or continental breakfast, slightly steep prices for the breakfast and not a huge quantity given, though tasty pastries! Overall good experience and would stay again.
We loved the hotel. The thing that really made our stay though was the staff. I have never stayed anywhere with better staff across the board. Absolutely everyone was polite, friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.
Had a lovely afternoon celebrating my mums 80th Birthday at this hotel . We were really well looked after by the staff and we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Will definitely be making a return visit.
Nice central hotel next to bars and places to eat, rooms are a good size and very clean. We had an issues which the staff sorted out way beyond what was expected. Thanks to the management and their team. Highly recommended
