My sister and I found this hotel online and were very pleased with our two night stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to us, which always makes a hotel stay much more pleasant. The location was within walking distance to the market, shops and historical attractions. The only downfall was the parking situation. We had to park in a lot on the street behind the hotel, and we had to pay a daily charge. We were able to unload our car before parking, so that helped.

We were part of a tour, so we can't comment on the price. It is within walking distance of most of the attractions in York. It does not have air conditioning, but the weather was pleasant when we were there. It is very clean. They have large white fluffy towels, but no where to hang them. You have the choice of a shower or a tub. There is not shelf in the shower to put shampoo or anything else. That was inconvenient. The breakfast buffet has a wide variety of items. It is quite similar to other hotel buffets. We would recommend it.

This property is more or less in the middle of town and within walking distance of York Minister. However, that is not the problem. We were part of a large Trafalgar group and were in room 105. Although the staff at the reception was very cheerful and cooperative, it's the room that was not satisfactory. Perhaps this is what Trafalgar ordered. Today was about the warmest day in York (June 2017) and our room has no air conditioning, no fans and to make matters worse, the window tilts open two inches. Oh yes, a pedestal fan was provided on request but the cramped room was stuffy. There is no cupboard neither is there a locker. So we have to make do. Literally opposite the hotel, a new Travelodge has opened its premises and I'm sure they rooms that have air conditioning. So if you are planning to stay in Hotel 53, make sure your room has an AC or at least a fan.

Great hotel and very central. Reasonably priced and very modern hotel. Rooms are done out lovely and very spacious. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return. Wetherspoons just over the road however wouldn't rate it as wasn't very good when we went. Lots of restaurants and bars close by though.

had a grate stay here with warking distance to all York main attractions bed was comfy and hotel its really nice an the reception staff are very helpful. all staff made us feel welcome and always happy to help I have recently recomented this hotel to a friend who is travling to York

Hotels in city centre York are expensive. This one was not cheap, but relative to others... The room was small for the three of us, particularly with the pull out couch out. But for no longer than we were in the room it was fine. My biggest complaint is all the outlets are on the opposite wall from the bed which meant a cord stretched out across the room. The bath was very plain but serviceable, my new favorite feature of hotels are bath towels which this one had large thirsty ones! No where really to hang towels. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, service was outstanding even though there was some confusion about our booking it was handled easily, quickly, and correctly. The parking is a nuisance but what are you going to do in a 1000 year old walled city. Their solution is a private about a block down the road. They were even good about letting us stay a couple of hours extra. Very close to very center of town.

Consistently high standard of cleanliness and comfort. Always a good value stay. Impressive as always. Nice staff, comfy rooms. Handily located just a 5 minute stroll from the excellent Walmgate. Definitely worth a visit!

Wow what a find! We received a lovely welcome from the reception staff, nice Bar/Lounge Area and rooms were really nice and beds comfy... (even had the little extras you would not expect for the price paid) The location was absolutely spot on, a few minutes walk to shops and some great bars and restaurants and the city centre. Highly recommend this Hotel! The only thing to be aware of is there are only a few parking spaces directly next to the hotel, and the remainder are within a general public car park just 2 mins walk away. On arrival you need to first go in to the hotel and ask for a parking permit and they will confirm where you will be able to park.

Very comfortable hotel with an excellent breakfast. The hotel is within easy walking distance of all the main attractions and eateries in the centre of York. Very pleasant staff.Rooms very well appointed with plenty of plugs for tablets etc and free wifi.Parking available for a fee

Booked this hotel one night before the visit. Found it by chance when the travelodge was full. Glad to say I'm glad the Travelodge was full as this was a great find! Location is brilliant right on top of restaurants and shops. Minutes away from the centre of town. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel as it was over £10 each (there was 2 adults and 2 children aged 11 & 13). We found a cafe in town but there is a Weatherspoons opposite. Hotel was clean, plenty of room for 4 of us (if I'm being picky my two children would have preferred not having to share!) but for one night it was fine. Will definitely return again as we loved York and this hotel was great.
