While the staff was very nice, my room was terrible. The shade was broken so I could not pull it up. The bed was short-sheeted. Who does that? Ironing board was broken and iron almost scalded me because it was missing a piece. I am not a complainer (despite this review) but I also got a half-hearted "I'm sorry" from the front desk staff as I checked out and shared my experience. I was polite and measured whe describing my experience, so the response was also disappointing.

Well, I was a bit surprised by what appeared to be a sloppy remodel: peeling wall paper, ceiling paint on ceiling fixtures, untidy caulking on bathroom walls and tiles, exposed screw anchors in bathroom. All these could be addressed so easily in a couple of hours. Despite a wonderful staff and beautiful common areas (though dank basement gym smelled like mildew) it shows a certain lack of attention to detail.

The main issue is that the hotel does not have coffee available anywhere, in the mornings. They recommend going to the Starbucks on the corner. Also, the bathroom door squeaked in room 640.

I have been staying at the Empire Hotel for a number of years. I like the convenience of walking across to Lincoln Center,Central Park, restaurants and the subway. It is clean and the staff is always kind and helpful. I wish they had room service,safes in the rooms and clock radios. I miss being able to listen to the radio when I stay there.Also I miss having the coffee service in the room. It would be nice if the bar was back in the lobby. I remember when they had a spa which my sister and I enjoyed immensely. It is an old building which was renovated several years ago. It could use a little help with fresh paint and better lighting in corridors. Such a great location just needs a little facelift.

I really like the Empire Hotel. Nice art deco look to the lobby and hallways. My room was a double bed room which was very spacious since I was staying on my own. I really loved the room! Very clean and cozy with lots of room for my things. Great floor to ceiling mirror and nice bathroom. The hallways are a tad dark (why is that?) . All staff were courteous \and helpful.

When we checked in the rooftop pool was closed. We were told it would be open till end of September. The AC wasn't working in our room, so they wanted to give us fans. The room was 80 degrees. We pushed and they moved us to a room with 2 beds. Photos are pretty, but the hotel needs major upgrading. VERY disappointing for $600/night!!!!!

Pretty hotel but several issues

Beds were not very comfy and pillows were very lumpy & uneven. Not enough towels, no bath mat the first day. We had two keys and both never worked at the same time - fixing one demagnetized the other and we kept having to get them fixed. Elevator call buttons broke one night so I had to go up & down twice via stairs to get the key fixed. Please give a bonus to the gentleman who had to man the one working elevator, he was fantastic and working so hard! Room was also very loud between the old AC and traffic noises.
