Excellent location for tourists. Central Park, Lincoln Center, Times Square, dining options. Room was good. Staff were helpful. Will definitely stay here again.

Hotel was nice and clean and close to shops, dining and attractions, room was spacious and clean. The one thing I was missing was an option for bar/dine in - there is a roof top restaurant that is on the premisses but not of te hotel. Would have been great if there was a bar area in the Mezanine (was just a sitting area, no food or beverage option) nor breakfast sining option. Also, would have been great to have some kins of a kit in the bathroom but there was none - no Q tips/shower cap/makeup remover etc. Other than that - very nice and helpful staff

The staff were excellent but the room was substandard. Needed a lot of work in the bathroom also.

I loved the location of this hotel. Lots of walkable things. Staff was friendly and took care of issues quickly. Definitely, would stay again.

Great staff

We stayed at The Empire for my birthday. When you look at the pictures, the hotel looks amazing. When you get there, terrible. Our ac/heater didn’t work. The faucet in shower fell off, and the size of the rooms are too small. There was no dresser to set your clothes or anything. We reserved an accessible room for my wife to be able to get around in wheelchair, she could roll in and roll out. No room to get to side of bed or in bathroom.

Easy walk to subway and Central Park. Great NYC vibe!

I stay in Manhattan often, and rarely on the West Side because it is generally a tourist trap. I did pick Empire Hotel for my wife, 7-year-old son and myself because I definately wanted a room with two beds for the three of us. This is the room that Empire (and Expedia) promised when I paid for the room. When I arrived, they only had rooms with a single bed. When I told the front desk that the room they'd given my was not what I'd paid for, they lied to me, telling me they'd made a mistake and would move me to another room with two beds. The second room was identical to the first, and the front desk agent spun an improbably tale about her computer system not knowing how many beds were in each room. Then she, laughing at us and making no apparent effort to sound honest, spun an improbable story about the last two-bed room being booked just at the same second as she changed our room, so that she thought she was booking a two-bed room, but the system gave us a one bed room, and so forth. Basically the hotel sold us one thing, for a higher price than the the room the actually provided us. And then laughed at us and insulted my intelligence when I asked for the room I'd paid for.

Though the price was right, 2 things rubbed me the wrong way. As a frequent traveler I was appalled that they charged me 75.00 for an early check in….just say we don’t have any rooms. Getting in early and the hotel making accommodations on your behalf makes you feel they value your business. The second is that the entire hotel needs a massive make over. The lobby to some extent but my room 403 - no light in the hallway, once in the room the heat/AC did not work the blinds were not attached so couldn’t open and the bathroom had dings and divots everywhere!

Came for a weekend of opera at the Met; no better location in the city for that. Several uncomplimentary reviews had me worried. No worries were warranted. Staff was courteous and efficient from Niya at the front desk, to our housekeeper who asked what time we would like our room made up, to the doormen who never missed a beat, to the bell captain whose service was top-notch. Rooftop bar is great and thanks to our server for the samples of candied ginger that was the secret ingredient in my cocktail. Facility is a little old and worn, but then again so am I. Yes the room is smaller than the Comfort Inn in Terre Haute, Indiana. Hello, you're in New York City. Yes, it's pricier than Tulsa Pick Roosevelt. Again, NYC. Noise, climate control, operation of hand-held shower? Zero problems. Comfy bed, nice linens. A wonderful stay in a superior room.

If you want a place on the upper West Side, the location is great. Staff was also polite. The hotel was very outdated. The bathroom door was made of glass. Daughter used bathroom in the middle of the night and woke everyone up as the light shined throughout the room. The bathroom also had no vent. Speaking of light, There was no light at in our hall. Kids had to turn on flashlights on phones for us to find the keyhole. Also only 1 light fixture in the room itself.

The rooms are very small (but it’s Manhattan, so not terribly surprising). The bed was very uncomfortable, little control over air conditioning (was either freezing or too warm) & the shower dripped constantly. You cannot beat the location, however & the staff was great.
