A bit lifeless . The hotel is well situated close to City Airport, 10mns away by cab. The rooms are spacious. I had a room which had a side view on the water. The dining/breakfast area has an outside space where you can dine outside. I had diner at the restaurant, the mine is simple but OK.
Rooms are very good and clean and to a very high standard. The staff are so friendly and helpful and made my stay enjoyable. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is in the area. The food is delicious.
Stopped at the Novotel whilst in London Service was great - staff remembered it was my wife's birthday and kindly bought up a birthday cake to the room Nice touch ..! Room was perfectly adequate Breakfast was great Will stop there again
. . . so here it is in public. The hotel itself is actually quite nicely decorated and smart looking, unfortunately this counts for nothing when the attitude of the staff you interact with stinks. I checked in and went to my room to find it was a downgrade from what I had booked, so thinking this was an honest error, I called reception. After the phone rang off twice, they finally answered it on the third attempt and told me to come back to reception, which I duly did. Before even looking at a single thing to do with my reservation, the receptionist told me it was my fault for booking it wrong! Astonishing rudeness and arrogance. We quickly established that I had booked it exactly right, and then came the excuse that the company I had booked through described their rooms differently to them, so that was the room I was getting. The reality of the situation was the company I had booked through used EXACTLY the same terminology as the hotel do on their own website. Next excuse: our system describes the rooms differently! What sort of hotel sets up their system so that the rooms are described differently from what guests can actually book?? Hearing the discussion, a manager comes over, but instead of trying to understand and rectify the situation, says "why don't you want that room", "it's a nice room", "what's wrong with it?", "it's one of our newly decorated rooms" . . . fine, but I paid extra for the upgraded room, so that's what I expected to get, and I consider that perfectly reasonable. After about 10 minutes of this ridiculous argument, I was finally checked into the room I'd paid for . . . a truly unnecessary and offensive course of events just to check into a hotel. During the conversation, the word "overbooking" was used once, which I think was about as close as I got to honesty from the staff. I strongly object to being fobbed off by these blatantly dishonest and rude members of staff and management who seemed to forget that they create the first impression of the hotel on their guests. Their failure to manage their bookings correctly should not become the guests' problem.
Here for four nights and was happy from the start. Reception staff were efficient and very helpful. With three lifts serving nine floors passage to the rooms was fast and smooth. The rooms themselves were well fitted out with plenty of sockets and Wi-Fi connections. The bar which was on the same level as reception also served a variety of meals at very acceptable prices. Breakfast was a self serve buffet and help yourself to as much as you want. All the staff member were very helpful and cheerful. It is very handy for the exhibition centre and all the other things happening in the dockland area.
Been to quite a few Novotel's over the years and I can say with confidence that this one is my favourite! Great location near the water and excel centre. We got a bit lost and had to call the hotel to ask for directions, luckily for us Levi at the Front Desk answered the phone and was very helpful and showed great area knowledge to understand where we were. What set this experience WAY apart from the rest was the fact that Levi personally came to meet us at a nearly Tesco to bring us to the hotel! Whilst walking to the hotel he made great conversation, giving us a mini-tour of the area and letting us know the best spots on the way there. He was very engaging with my kids and gave them some toys from the hotel. We were upgrade free of charge to a beautiful room on the 7th floor. The kids loved the room as well as my husband. Breakfast was reasonably priced at 16.45 and had a wide variety of options. Based on the beauty of this hotel and the location along with Levi's exemplary service, I have no doubt I will be returning soon when our family returns to London. Novotel Excel have gained a repeat customer and I look forward to staying again!
beautiful hotel very well priced for the area. Room was spacious and clean. Even a bath and a separate shower which was great. Pizza bar was good Freshly made to order at £10-£12 each. Breakfast worth booking prior to arrival and worth the money. Would book again.
Booked by my sister for the proximity to O2 venue. Waterside location was great. We had a suite on the fifth floor which had a lounge as well as a bedroom with extensive views of the water and beyond. There were two toilets and a rainfall shower. The suite had two large flat screen tvs and several vertical lamps as well as a fridge and a nespresso machine. We asked for the sofa bed to be made up for me and I was very comfortable indeed. This is the sort of hotel room you would want to spend time in with its chaise longue and table and chairs. WiFi was fast and easy to access. We arranged a 2pm checkout and were able to enjoy delicious and reasonably priced late night pizza on return from our event. In the morning we enjoyed a delicious hot and cold breakfast buffet with a wide range of choices, very nicely served and with river views. Excellent hot coffee. We then used the small steam room and sauna on the top floor with even better views. There is also a gym there. We found it difficult to find Information re breakfast timings and we had a few pre 2pm calls from staff re checkout which were a little bit irritating. However, this did not detract from what was a fabulous stay in the Novotel Excel. Highly recommended.
Recently stayed here on business and chose it due to its location being out of the city and overlooking The Thames. The rooms are comfortable and the evening meal was lovely. The DLR is a short walk from the hotel and will take you into the centre of the city.
At first glance, this hotel seems like any other that caters to business travelers; but what gives it heart and sets it apart in a different league is its General Manager, Michael Lucas. When he first crossed our path, he gave the seemingly generic greeting "If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to call upon me"; but less than an hour later, we had a need that was way above and beyond in what should be asked of a GM (a colleague had mistakenly checked into another nearby Novotel). Not only did he handle matters with the other property, but he had belongings gathered and delivered to us. Exemplary customer service! From that point on, I became a huge fan of this property. We crossed paths with Mr. Lucas many times and were greeted with enthusiasm and interest. This was also modeled with the front desk staff. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet; and have to admit, I had fun playing with the "frosted glass" button for the see-through shower. Next time in London, I will consider this hotel for both personal and business use.
