DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London ExCel

An overpriced hotel with small rooms and small beds. We booked a room with a queen size bed but got a standard double. Staff point blank refused to give us a room with a larger bed. Shower and handrail were both hanging off the wall in our bathroom. Food quality in the bar. Was poor quality and they even ran out of fish and chips on a Friday evening before 6pm. The best thing was the breakfast and breakfast staff. Both very good.

Stayed here during an event at the nearby Excel center. The hotel blocked off large number of rooms few months ahead of the event. I made international calls on four separate occasions to get my reservation straightened out, I never got to talk with anyone from the reservation department, even after sometimes holding for 30 minutes or more. I wanted to reserve from 11/13 to 11/17, but was able to reserve 11/13 to 16 with reasonable rate, but when I tried to change to 11/17, the rate inexplicably changed to astronomical 299 pounds per night, for each of the 4 nights. In the end, I made 2 separate reservations, one for 11/13 - 16, and one for 11/16-17. Even after I checked in and stayed in the hotel, I was never able to talk to anyone in the reservation department, apparently, these people have the luxury of 9-5 jobs. Being a Hilton Diamond member I will most likely not return to this hotel in London next time, there are quite a bit of choices, even you are trying to be loyal to Hilton and stay in the Hilton family. If they offer you an "upgraded" room on the second floor or any floor for that matter, make sure it is not facing the DLR as the train tracks are merely few feet away from the windows, you will both hear it and feel it when the trains go by, it's almost as bad as the planes taking off promptly at 7:00AM every morning. But with the planes, at least you know what you are getting into because of the airport.

Arrived at the hotel, free parking which was a bonus for London. Check in was smooth and the warm cookie was a nice bonus. We were given a room over looking the river which met all our needs. Breakfast also was well organised. We were given incorrect information on getting to the o2 which cost us. We were told to use cable car to get there and could also use it getting back as it closed at 11pm. We left the venue at 10.30 so not to be late only to find it stopped running at 9pm. As we had not researched the train we had to use a taxi at the cost of £25. Other than this an excellent stay.

Probably used more for business, an excellent base if flying from the nearby airport ( you can see aircraft taking off from the runway) and can also see the 02 arena. For us this was a last minute visit and chose Hilton brand as a safe choice. Car parkingcould be a problem as there is not plentiful spaces available, we were lucky to get the last space when we arrived. The receptionist was very helpful, we had the warmed cookie as Hilton Honors guests and the room was just what we wanted, quiet and clean, and we had free internet access. Buffet breakfast was good, I have seen other reports suggesting this let the hotel down but that was not our experience and the hotel dining room seemed quite full but the breakfast items were being renewed rgularaly. Overall as we were just a 40 minute or so drive from London centre the cost was very reasonable and if in the area we shall revisit.

Staying with the Hilton family of brands - you know there will be a clean, comfortable room waiting for you and the Doubletree includes a great buffet breakfast with many options to choose from. We dined at the hotel's restaurant for dinner one night and also in the lounge - service was very good at both, and the food was of good quality. It was a very short 5 min walk into the ExCel centre, and we used public transit to get into the city one evening, which took a good hour in order to reach the theatre district at Tottenham Ct station. Perfect place to stay for my needs which was a trade show.

I was at the Hilton hotel for six days with my mother. Upon arrival to the hotel we were updated our room was not ready and the room allocated to us had problem with the heating system in a cold weather condition. When our heat went off at the initial stages, we were offered a similar room with the same heating issues. It was until I had mentioned that I was leaving the hotel then the "Make It Right service" came into play to grant us a free upgrade to a Deluxe room. My previous stays in Hilton hotels in the U.S.A have been exceptional so that is why I decided to choose a hotel by Hilton in the vicinity I had plan to reside during my stay in the United Kingdom.

Room was still left with rubbish from previous guests. Breakfast let’s this hotel down so much. Not Hilton quality and you would get a better selection at 3 star hotels. Fried eggs where over cooked, yoghurt was of cheap quality, bread was not fresh and overall selection was just poor.

Checked into this hotel for 3 nights for a trade show held at the excel. It is very accessible for th excel. The room was fine. I really liked they had Hilton Honor floors which included complimentary bottles of water - that was a plus. The breakfast had some good choices. Cookies or fruit provided upon checkin. The only disappointing ting was I tried to order room server late one evening and they didn’t have the item I requested - which was odd as they would have known it would be a very busy week. However overall I was very happy here.

I was very impressed with this hotel. One of the cheaper Hilton hotels in the London area but it didn’t loose the Hilton quality. Staff were really friendly. We ate in the restaurant and the food and staff were excellent. (Touch slow on the service but we didn’t mind). Room was nice and clean. Normal layout. We had the standard room and the only negative comment I had was the bed was a little small. All in all a good stay.

We stayed at this Hilton in September and, when another trip to London was required, decided to stay again. Our second visit was as good as the first. Good location next to the DLR and Excel, just 25 minutes from the centre of the city. Great breakfast. Views over London City Airport. I'd particularly single out one of the duty managers, Nina, who quickly, calmly, efficiently, and effectively resolved an issue that arose. I'd certainly recommend this hotel, and we will return.
