Maitre'D was very helpful and it was a pleasant experience but chosen more for location than atmosphere. we had afternoon tea with a glass of fizz. service was ok ,selection of tea fancies was generous
Wonderful room once we sorted out our registration with a young man who did not seem to want to tell us what the delay was. Helpful concierge who fetch out luggage and took control of the situation well. Looking forward to the evening meal to find that Marco Pierre White had taken over the menu. Not very exciting and the shepherds pie left a lot to be desired and the spice in a prawn cocktail what was that about how to spoil a good simple recipe. Have to say the waitress was very attentive and recommended the grilled salmon and this was excellent. Eaton mess for pudding very nice but too much cream and little meringue . The bar was packed and service very slow not as on our previous visits but that could have been the Star Trek group that we’re having a gathering. Would I go again, certainly but beware the place is undergoing a refurbishment.
Because we have to travel 240 miles to Southampton, when taking a cruise we like to travel down the day before and stay overnight. Having tried several hotels, Grand Harbour offered the best deal, being competitively priced against, would you believe it, the Ibis Budget! However, where the Ibis offered only a spartan room and car parking, the Grand Harbour gave us a lovely double room overlooking the harbour, the concierge brought our luggage from the car into the hotel and stored it for us, and the deal included our evening meal and breakfast, Moreover, it also included transport from the hotel to the ship, and back to the hotel upon returning to Southampton, and of course car parking. The hotel is very nice, and is the place to stay if you are cruising from Southampton. So, why have I not given it an 'excellent' rating? Well, the booking in took 20 minutes to complete, as the receptionist did not seem to know what he was doing. Having finally issued us with our key cards, we found that neither of them worked, and had to return to reception to get this fixed before we could get into our room. Also, we think the quality of the food in the restaurant has gone down. The last time we ate there, we were very impressed; this time, not so much. In mitigation, they were perhaps short staffed, as they had a 'Star Trek' convention going on at the time.
I’ve been to many hotels on my travels but few compare to the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton in terms of exceptional service, friendly helpful staff and a great place to hold a convention. From Della (housekeeping pictured), to Joseph (manager), service was second to none, prompt and done with total professionalism. A very special place to visit. Thank you all
Excellent but very busy hotel, we have stayed here several times and it is suitable for us for staying the night before we go on our cruise. The restaurant is very good, the food is mid range, the breakfast is okay. The bar prices are way too high and the hotel should think about lowering their prices. The car park is a hit and miss as it is always full. I would recommend this hotel.
For the first time in southern England and a 30-day stay at the Hotel, the attention was excellent. The rooms are always clean and very comfortable. The bar has excellent service with a wide variety of drinks from all parts of the region. I want to take this opportunity to highlight the special attention of Mr. Luis who daily rescues us with a very kind kindness and smile that distinguishes the Colombians.
My husband & I stayed at the Grand Harbour Hotel, parking was very simple in the hotel car park, reception area was very welcoming as were the staff. We stayed in the Billington Suite, very grand too, delicious treats on the table, which were delicious. The room was very spacious as was the bathroom, with a huge Jacuzzi bath tub! We also enjoyed a massage experience together in one room with two masseuse, which was so relaxing, we nearly fell asleep! The indoor pool was a comfortable temperature & decor was very nice. In the evening we took a short walk to West Quay where we were spoilt for choice of Restaurants & a multiplex Cinema & bowling. Retiring back to our bedroom later in the evening, our SuperKing size bed was so comfortable we both slept really well. Breakfast was ample & scrumptious, especially the Sausages!!! The service staff were very polite bringing hot drinks to our table. Overall 10/10 5* Hotel Thank you to my husband for taking me here & especially to all the kind staff at the Grand Harbour Hotel xx
My wife and I booked the Grand Harbour while we were visiting family in Southampton, as we now live in Spain. We were given a warm welcome by the reception staff and were shown to our room (The Billington Suite), which had a balcony with splendid views across Southampton Water, to the New Forest. The room had a very comfortable super-king bed which was perfect for us as we have one at home. There was a contemporary sofa, writing desk, huge flat-screen Philips tv which had a great picture and crisp sound and the bathroom had the largest jacuzzi bath I've ever seen! It was full-length but double-width, with two headrests - perfect! I was a long-haul airline crew member for 20 years before retiring last year, having spent countless nights in some of the best 5-star hotels worldwide and can honestly say this was one of the nicest rooms I've ever stayed in. We had booked massage therapies on our arrival day and these were done at the same time in a lovely double therapy room. The staff were experts in their field and worked wonders on our aching backs, after a long day of driving. We followed this with a swim in the recently refurbished pool which (unlike many hotel pools), was a comfortable temperature. That evening, we took a short 5-min walk up to the West Quay shopping mall, which is better than most American malls I've visited. There is a fabulous array of international restaurants there and a brand-new 'Showcase' cinema with reclining armchair leather seats and IMAX style screens. The next morning, we enjoyed a well presented and cooked, full buffet breakfast. The choice was great, in line with any other top class hotel and was plentiful. However, the staff were very attentive and helpful and brought fresh tea and coffee upon our arrival at the table. To summarise, I would highly recommend this hotel for cruise passengers as you're almost on the waterfront, parents visiting their university students, people looking for a great weekend break and for visiting the now world-famous Southampton Boat Show.
Feels like we stayed in a different hotel compared to other reviewers. Check in and out was smooth, the room was as good as I expected ie clean, tidy and the bed was fine. Breakfast certainly seemed ok to us and the bar food looked expensive but they were big servings and tasted great. Didn’t use the spa but the pool was as good as it should have been.
Stayed here overnight in room 348. Service was great from all staff. Cakes in the room for the wife’s birthday. Room was fine. Bed a little hard for my taste but good quality. Nice balcony with both city and sea view from the room. Shame it rained all day! We didn’t see any of the renovation or smell the paint etc. Maybe that was on floors above us. Breakfast was fine. Like all buffets it depends what time you get there, and the chef was available to have poached eggs etc if desired. Nice meal in MPW’s steak house. Again great staff and nice touches for my wife’s birthday. For a city centre hotel the room price was good. Cider price was ok but wine was a tad expensive. They looked after us very well and we would happily go back. Thank you!
