I travel all over the world and book hotels through TripAdvisor all the time. Sometimes my travel writing means I have to change plans at short notice. Even with the most hardline cancellation policies, hotels are normally understanding. Indeed, in 30 years I’ve never once faced a totally unyielding response. Until the MacDonald Windsor. I had an unavoidable delay of a week in Southeast Asia whilst completing my next book. I tried to change the dates a week in advance of the reservation. Not allowed. Refund then? Not allowed. then ‘reached out’ to the hotel to see if they would be amenable to flexibility for one of their regular customers. Not allowed. Actually, the hotel didn’t even bother replying. £284 taken and banked. What a rubbish response. But then, a hotel that charges its guests £35 a night to park a car should be a warning to you all. Pick-pocketing of which the Artful Dodger would have been proud.

Right across from Windsor Castle. Clean, modern, comfortable rooms. Concierge desk arranged good taxi service. Pity about the restaurant. Breakfast was about what you'd expect in a tourist hotel, but the dinners were mediocre. Our entire group sent back one dish as inedible. On the other hand, we discovered that Windsor is not much of a restaurant town, so "mustn't grumble."

Great weekend at hotel got a upgrade also it was are 35th wedding anniversary and when we arrived at room a bottle of bubbly in ice bucket a balloon and two nice cup cakes Emma was really helpful on reception helped us book tickets for castle breakfast was very nice lots of choices all and all we had a great weekend

We really enjoyed our stay here (February 2018). The room was a good size and featured steps going up to a lounge area and a super king size bed. On arrival we were treated to a bottle of presseco and cup cakes in the room which was a nice touch. Valet parking took care of the car in the hotels underground car park as well as brought our bags to the room. We ate in the hotel and enjoyed cocktails afterwards. The hotel is perfectly sited opposite Windsor castle and seconds from the shops, we would certainly recommend it to anyone considering staying in the area.

We stayed as a family midweek the night before flying off on a ski holiday. The 3 rooms were all excellent but the hotel really lacked on service once you got past reception. Dinner - food quality was poor in the restaurant and service frosty. The restaurant manager was very attentive but sadly he doesn’t serve all tables or cook the food. One of our steaks was ordered medium, it was served rare. They changed it but then brought back an even rarer steak! The venison stew looked like the scrapings from school dinners - 3 tiny bits of meat, I was still hungry afterwards. Breakfast - a good selection and plenty to go around but again the staff never smiled and bordered on being rude. The whole experience was capped off when one of our party accidentally left a coat in the room on checkout. The hotel kept the coat but never notified us they had found it. A week later on the holiday we remembered and called reception. They confirmed the coat was with housekeeping and ready to collect. After returning from holiday we went to collect the coat and was told it couldn’t be found but they would wait until the day shift was in next day to take another look, nobody called and I had to get quite firm on the phone before miraculously the coat was found within 30 seconds. Upon collecting the coat I was also annoyed to see it was creased and clearly hadn’t been taken care off in the manner you’d expect from a 4 star establishment. Despite the great location and nice rooms we won’t be back in a hurry

Staff were great really helpful, and a great city centre location for a break. Thanks to all for making it so easy. Parking was busy, glad I booked a space in advance. Loved the breakfast too, best meal.

We have stayed here 4 times now. The last time was Saturday 3rd Feb. Its in a great position to explore the town and is right opposite the castle grounds. We did the one night B+B Special break for £139. The room was well appointed ( internal facing). The breakfast was superb. The breakfast manager was very friendly and helpful - nice chap. 2 things stuck in my craw . The 1st was that the Parking at £30 per night seemed excessive . However the desk staff assured me that even the public car parks are now 20-25 overnight... so this made me feel better. The 90p charge for a glass of Soda water was the 2nd thing . The bar man laughingly explained that it Is a Scottish owned hotel. On a brighter note the hotel did give each guest a £10 voucher (per room) to be used in the hotel. We enjoyed our stay ( despite the soda water).

This hotel is excellent, right in the middle of Windsor and 2 minutes from the Castle. Its hidden away a little of the High Street, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the perfect place for our night away. Enormous standard room, comfy bed and exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. The only downside is the bar is exceptionally expensive.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, from arrival to leaving everything was perfect. The hotel is impeccably clean, with a modern style, our room was just immaculate, very spacious and the bed was super comfy! The girls on reception were extremely helpful during our stay, especially when it came to sorting out an extra night for us and even organised for us to keep the same room which was a great help! The breakfast had a great variety to choose from as-well as having plenty of it! I certainly would return to this hotel again as it’s very central and was ideal for us to use the train, lovely views of the castle also..

This property has not only a great location but large comfortable room in contrast to many in the area. You will appreciate the easy access to Windsor Castle but also to the nearby train station for trip into London or elsewhere to do some site seeing. Close by are many shops and unique restaurants, things to see and do all within walking distance. Very enjoyable stay!
