I visited this venue and its partner The Complete Angler during on overnight stay. I have to say the staff where amazing and tentative even helping when I lost a phone charger and couldn't figure out how to dial the Netherlands. The lunch buffet was full of flavour and very tasty. The hotel is located in a fabulous position in Windsor for you to see all the changing of the guard from the castle. The dinner @ The Complete Angler! What can I say..... again Amazing, such a shame I arrived so late in the evening that it was to dark to appreciate the amazing view from the hotel. Id like to say a huge thank you to Andy Menear @ Windsor & Pil the General manager @ The Complete Angler for making my stay wonderful and a truly amazing experience. Regards Marion
Stayed for one night from Saturday 7 April 2018 - Sunday 8 April 2018. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel only for one night, but I now feel we should've stayed for longer! The staff can't do enough for you, we arrived early at Windsor and we wanted to go to the hotel and drop off our bags - too early to check in. However, when we arrived, we were told we could check in early which was great! Hailey was who we saw at the front desk and she couldn't do enough for us. She told us we could get an upgrade and showed us different rooms so we could choose what we wanted. She was just amazing. She helped us settle in, provided us with advice about Windsor, told us what the hotel has to offer. Explained that as we upgraded and we had breakfast included in our stay, we could have breakfast in bed the next day without the surcharge- which was amazing. I've stayed at many hotels and the hotel food hasn't always been great. However, we had dinner at this hotel and it was so good! My boyfriend had the gammon and I had the stake sandwich which was cooked very well and was so lovely! The service was flawless and they couldn't do enough for you! It really was lovely. The breakfast (for breakfast in bed) you fill in the leaflet in the room the night before and this is then taken during the night and brought to you. You can choose the time you want the breakfast to come which is great and choose anything you want which I did! I had 1 thing from under each title, so croissants, cereal, juice, hot chocolate, eggs, toast, hashbrowns, bacon everything! Again this was amazing, freshly cooked and very well presented. The check out again was flawless and we were able to leave our bags in the hotel during the day before heading back home. I definitely recommend this hotel, it's centrally located literally 2 minutes walk from Windsor castle, very well presented. Just a very nice atmosphere overall. Thank you Hailey and the team at Macdonald Windsor.
Brilliant place to stay very cosy Castle across the street. Location is in s brilliant place 10min walk from the river. Enjoyed the food staff were brilliant. Had a lovely time with my husband. Rooms are lovely and clean. Would definately recommend.
We arrived early, 10:30, not expecting to check in but needed to valet park the car. On arrival we were informed our room was available - really good start. Room was lovely, only negative was the design of the bathroom door. If you used the bathroom at night, the light fills the bedroom - it's glass and does not work and also highlighted the glass needed a good clean! We ate in the restaurant - food was good and the free drinks voucher was a nice touch. Breakfast was good, had to wait for the hot food to be re-stocked, but all very tasty. Staff were very friendly. A bit cheeky to add an optional charge for our stay - when I enquired what this was for, I received a very vague reply - it was for the staff and service, I had already payed a service charge at dinner. Great location and would definitely stay again.
First of all, the location is awesome where is right next to the castle. The hotel itself is lovely. We stayed in the classic double room, which is roomy and clean; however, maybe it’s because our room is at lowere level (3F), what we see from the window is just other building’s wall (and the worst part is that wall is so close to our room that we could almost touch it if we reach our arms out). We also have its breakfast and it’s tasty. Besides, for those who drive, better to register for car park beforehand, otherwise, 35 pond for the overnight parking will be charged. Overall speaking, it’s a nice experience to stay with this hotel but if next time, we decide to stay here again, I’ll remember to ask for a room at higher level.
I booked two rooms in the Easter week one for my Mother as a treat and the other for myself and wife. I booked two Executive rooms. The hotel itself is very modern and recently decorated from initial impression. The rooms were clean and if you looked out of your window and attempted to look around the corner you could see the castle. As I had booked two rooms, when we we arrived at reception it was advised that they load my credit card with a block of £75 on one of the rooms in case we wanted to use the bar etc and add to our room bill. That is normal and most hotels simply leave the card open instead of pre-blocking your card, but each to their own. When we decided to have a drink in the bar before wondering around the town we found that for some reason the bill could not be charged to our room, it turned out that my card had been loaded against my mothers room, which in itself was no great issue as I was paying for both or had in fact pre paid for both. This however was obviously too big a hurdle to overcome for the barman and as I left my mother and wife to go outside for a cigar. The barman appeared at my side as if I was attempting to escape and said there was a problem and I needed to go to reception. This I did without going out in case they thought I might run away and leave my mother, wife and our S Class Mercedes in their Valet parking garage (£35 per night) for the sake of not paying a £23 Bar bill on our first night. It was somewhat humiliating to say the very least. Then a different Reception lady to the one who had processed us on our arrival took my credit card details again and said that instead of the £75 pre loading which we were told when we initially checked it, it was actually £75 per night per room, as we were staying 4 nights that was now £300 per room(£600 in all) pre loading on my company credit card. I told the young lady that it was ridiculous and that I have never heard of such huge pre loading of a credit card, her answer was ‘well you might decide to have 5 bottles of Champagne and what would we do then”? I answered, what if I did just that and stayed one night what would you do then, her answer was that it would flag up that the loading had been exceeded? So its no difference whatever level is pre loaded I said. “I don’t make the policies was the flippant reply and you don’t have to do it anyway you will just have to pay cash each time”. Not what I would consider customer friendly, so I refused to allow her to pre load my credit card and paid cash. I travel all over Europe as a business man and have never heard such cod’s wallop as I heard that evening. Needless to say we decided to use the Castle Hotel Bar where my brother was staying and had a much better and friendlier reception there. We ate out each night and used the local pubs instead of the Hotel we were staying in as we did not feel comfortable there. For some reason we were never able to open our mini bar either? That said the Concierge is fantastic and are very helpful and approachable. I am not sure whether I would go back again after the humiliation of being handled like some sort of fraud after trying to charge my bar bill to my room. I would probably op for the Castle Hotel to be honest after the extremely friendly reception my family received there (Parking there is £20 a night a considerable deference). I am firmly of the mind that when you are paying a considerable amount of money for a hotel, you have the right to be treated with some respect. As aforementioned this does not apply to the excellent concierge who should be commended, with a little luck some of their aplomb will rub off on the self important lady on reception.
My wife and I stayed at the MacDonald Windsor hotel over the Easter Weekend for one night. We had an amazing stay, the hotel is beautiful and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect central location with easy access to the Great Park for lovely walks. We ate out however we had wished we had booked at table at Caleys the restaurant based in the hotel, the food looked amazing. We definitely plan to stay again would highly recommend.
We booked the feature suite as a 30th Anniversary present to ourselves. Although it is expensive, we had a thoroughly nice stay and would definitely do it again. The room has a great view of the street and Windsor Castle to your left. It was nice seeing the changing of the guard from your balcony for a change! As I say, pricey but this is a very nice hotel with a good team running it and it was an excellent stay.
Having stayed here before with a good experience I was looking forward to returning. With a mid week room costing well in excess of £200 expectations were of course high. Sadly this time the mark was significantly missed - as staying on business to not serve breakfast before 7am is criminal. Having paid a rate including breakfast and being turned away at 6:35am left the group of us hungry and having to source alternatives outside of the hotel. It was disappointing not to have been offered pastries, take out coffee at least and we paid for something we didn’t even experience. Additionally the rooms were incredibly hot, two of us had bad nights sleep due to this - I even had an electric heater roaring in my room that I had to turn off. Whilst we have been going through cold spells here in the U.K. it’s been 12’C this week and these should have been turned off prior to arrival. Finally and call me petty I couldn’t get into the Elemis shower gel, I even tried my teeth (not cool)- the lid didn’t budge. Reception to their due gave me a bottle of something different when I mentioned it, just thankfully I noticed before my morning shower. Hotel decor is nice, sadly I don’t feel the stay was worth the money this time around, very disappointing.
Couldn’t fault the hotel. Beautiful room. Hotel is close to the castle. Breakfast was superb and we had a lovely evening meal in the hotel. We wanted to see the Changing of the Guard so asked if we could check out 15 minutes late. They allowed us a complimentary late check out to 12. All the staff were so helpful and friendly. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it or return again.
