The Accor booking website "forgot" the month I entered and had booked us for the prior month. The notification arrived 3 days later and was lost for a time among other preparations. By the time I noticed the change Accor regretfully could not honour their "price promise", approximately doubling the cost. On arrival Parking was extra. Overall it was an unexceptional room for a "superior" price.

Stayed here as a family of three and couldn’t fault it. Staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived earlier than the 14.30 checkin and as our room wasn’t quite ready we had a drink in the bar. When the room was ready the young guy on the front desk brought our key cards over and gave us a free drink voucher for our wait - a very nice touch and completely unexpected as it was us that had turned up early. The room was lovely and clean with a little fridge. Beds very comfortable. Had a great nights sleep. We had breakfast in the hotel and again this was very good. Had drinks in the bar in the evening, bar staff friendly and a good drinks selection. Quite pricey though. All in all this was our second stay at the Novotel and we will definitely return again. It’s a lovely hotel to stay with children. Our daughter loved it.

lovely clean, peaceful hotel, just within comfortable walking distance of York.Only downside was the room was a bit cold and we were unable to close the vent on top of the window to stop wind howling noises.Very freindly staff, and very pretty setting.

Very happy with our room , spotless lovely comfy bed , liked that the toilet was separate from shower room, room was at the front facing the car park on second floor very quiet , staff were very nice , The only complaint we had was the evening meal we had on the monday night after arrival was terrible, we were told when i we went in for dinner that we would have to wait a while to be served , but did not expect to wait for over 40 mins and when our dinner did arrive it looked liked it had just been chucked on the plate , so sorry but did not enjoy it !!!!!!!!!, but apart from that we did have a good stay .

A bit tired in the process of upgrading some rooms. We stayed bed & breakfast - bedroom was OK but very strange set up with toilet (WC) in a separate wee room next to the room door. Sink shower and bath off the main bed room got to come out the toilet to wash your hands Had dinner in the restaurant one night 3 Course set meal at a reasonable price but the cost per glass of wine from the bar is extortionate probably works out at £40+ per bottle of house wine? Just a bit off putting when you get the bill.

Lovely hotel. Clean and friendly staff. Pool is small but me and my partner had it to ourselves every night around 8-10pm (kids in bed maybe?) it was clean and warm. We went in it every day. We decided not to stay for breakfast as it was £12 per day, instead we walked along the road to weatherspoons and got breakfast there for £3.99. ( served 7am-12pm) We did not have dinner in the hotel either, we walked along the river and canal to winner winner on one of the nights. We did order food from just eat and delivered to the hotel , hotel were fine with this. The bath was lovely in the hotel, I could relax and watch tv at the same time! Bliss. There was a shower head in the bath to wash my hair. I didn't use the shower so I can't comment on that, however I did hang my swimming costume in the shower and by the next day it was dry ready to use again. The town is a short Walk, you could walk along near the road (front of hotel) Or walk along the river (behind the hotel) which we did a few times. The blue foot bridge was closed so we had to detour. I can imagine it being a lovely river side walk to the town centre when the foot bridge is open again. There was places to sit outside next to the river. The hotel was lovely, I would stay again. However maybe need to re think the price of the breakfast? £12 is a bit much for cornflakes and toast.

Myself and partner left it late to book a hotel in York for 3 nights, the Novotel turned out to be brilliant quality for the price... Upon arrival we were greeted by a young lad well spoken and well dressed, a credit to the hotel, made us feel welcome and nothing was a trouble. The bar staff were absoloutly spot on and again would do anything for you, with a smile on thier face. Novotel is a 4* and the prices reflect that, however if you feel that eating out is for you, the hotel is a short 10 minute walk from the city centre, with plenty of places to eat, the hotel also have absoloutly no issue with ordering for from outside the hotel, I asked the reception if it was oka, because I felt cheeky haha. We spent the majority of the days in York and the evenings we would spend in the hotel pool, not a big pool but it was pretty quiete on the evenings so we had it to ourselves. The room was pretty much perfect, no issues, for a Queen standard rated room it was spot on. If I had to really pick faults with Novotel it would be the construction on the first floor, but it was done invisible to us. We will definetly be using Novotel again if we visit York.

Different from 3 days ago I stayed in Novotel London Blackfriars No welcome drink for member Staff not friendly Toilet flush and telephone were out of order Plain coffee ,no coffee machine Swimming pool dangerous for children

Stayed four nights as part of a package from Rail Discoveries. The room, bathroom and separate toilet (good feature) were spotless, and the bed was comfortable. Staff were courteous and helpful throughout, though the check-in (after a pleasant welcome) was a very long-drawn-out procedure. I think the breakfast and dinner buffet service needs some serious management attention. On our last evening, the main-course dishes and accompaniments only appeared several minutes after the 7.00pm advertised (and semi-compulsory) start, and coverage was somewhat erratic throughout our stay. Examples: Coffee flasks were very late one day, with a queue forming. Salad dressings only appeared on one day. Cream for desserts only appeared on one day. Vegan breakfast sausages were only there for two days. In the desserts/cheese section, implements (cake slices, tablespoons, cheese knives) were almost completely lacking throughout, so I was reduced to purloining cutlery elsewhere, or picking up cheese and cakes with my fingers - hardly satisfactory at a 4* hotel! There was just one (very boring) vegetarian main course choice each day, and the main course choices overall weren't very inspiring. Butter allowance was meagre, with just one prepacked pat per side plate. As mentioned, the room was excellent in functional terms, but a bit dreary and dated in decor - large expanses of off-white "rice pudding" finish wallpaper, reminiscent of woodchip in a dodgy B&B! And a more cheerful "feature" colour than chocolate brown could have been chosen! On the other hand, the spacious lounge/bar WAS up to 4* expectations, if a little odd in some design/decor features. The stairwell opposite our room had an unpleasantly fusty smell. Overall, I think Novotel should seriously look to its laurels, as I find Premier Inn and even Travelodge have upped their standards of late. Don't get overtaken!

Hotel clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful. Large room and very comfortable bed. Modern Bathroom, separate toilet did not like this as no hand wash or wash hand basin, not very hygienic. Breakfast selection very good, restaurant OK. Excellent location for visiting York, near the Barbican Theatre, and the city walls. approximately 15 minutes walk to the centre, bus stop a few minutes walk away. If you do decide the order the fish fingers off the snack menu, they are fish fingers, limp white bread no butter on the bread, very poor value for money. Considering the standard of the rest of the food I could not believe chef had sent such a poor snack out. My husband had a cheese sandwich, stale bread again white, think it was left over from breakfast. The restaurant on the whole apart from this was very good. It does have a small indoor pool, but did not use it, as did not have the time, I would definitely stay again, as the good things out weighed the poor things. I would not order fish finger sandwich again.
