Overall the stay was fine. The things that were good was outside of the room. The pools were awesome and never crowded, the beach area was awesome and you never had to search for a chair. The outside areas were very clean and nice. The areas that need improvement are CUSTOMER SERVICE! The staff was not friendly or helpful in any way. For two people in a room they gave us one towel and no hand towels or wash clothes. When asked they gave us two more towels and nothing else the rest of the trip. The front desk was rude and you had to go get your own drinks in the dining room even though there were an ample amount of employees standing around talking. The time share salesman in the lobby, that lie and say they just want to take you and show you one of their 5 star resorts so that maybe you will book it the next time are a complete and total scam. They tell you to lie about your marital status and trip details and the sales people on the other end treat you terribly when you say no to their vacation club scam. Heads up, just say no and keep on walking and you will save yourself a ruined morning. They totally lie to get you to go and represent it as something completely different. The rooms are fine, with the exception of some plumbing problems but nothing that keeps you from enjoying the trip.

Restaurants and buffet foods are not too good. Nightly entertainments also are not to entertaint. Stayed 7 days and saw the same everyday.

Property offers a variety of places to eat. Unfortunately they are not so good. The Japanese restaurant and the Mexican are the best restaurants to eat at. Now saying they are the best doesn't mean they are great. They are just the better of the options. Buffet is horrible. Breakfast lunch and dinner. I did like the pizzaria out by the pool. When we made our reservations we requested a king bed. When we arrived we had to take a room with two smaller beds and then they had us move the next day to another room. Upon entering our first room we were knocked over with the smell of mildew. Literally snacks you in the face as soon as you open your door. My brother, who was also staying there and is a carpenter, came in ourr room and looked in our vent and it was filled with mold. We had to have the air on because it was really hot and humid. They wouldn't or couldn't move us so we had to breathe that in all night till they could move us the next day. The second room was much better. No smell. The pools were very nice and one had a swim up bar. Perfect temp...not too cold not to warm. Beach was beautiful and well maintained. They offered a show every night which was nice BUT unfortunately it was all nothing but people singing. Every night. Communication was tough. 90% of the employees never had a clue what we were saying. Snorkeling from small building to the right on beach is MUCH cheaper than the guy you can book with in hotel. And it's a 2 hour trip so it doesn't take up your day

We have been using Orbitz from its first year for our annual time off. This is the first time the presentation to it by pictures didn’t come to reality such as charging for internet and staffs were not available nicely.

Decent size property with good amenities. But our reference was Iberostar which we could not book this time due to last minute booking. On the first day when we reached and went to the pool we could not get beach towels at 5:00pm. The kids were disappointed. Also everyday you could change towels only 2 times, unlike Iberostar which does not place any limits. But overall the hotel was good with good staff. Unfortunately they don't speak much English and that was a slight inconvenience. Food was good and there was a variety of sea food that my family enjoys. We got booking to the specialized restaurants for decent times. The programs in the evening were all in Spanish and does not make much sense to non-English speaking crowd. The only saver was the Michael Jackson show that we enjoyed. Initially I thought all the MJ songs would be sung in Spaninh. But Thank God, he sang in English. Guy looked so much like original MJ.

People are nice. Italian food was not very good and service was slow.

Beautiful setting. Room leaked. Wait staff was not efficient in providing services such as keeping tables cleaned off, filling coffee or water, bringing meals in timely manner. One night it took 4 hours to get served all of our meal.

The property was set on a beautiful strip of the beach. The service was very good, and the place was very clean and well kept. The food, unfortunately, was very disappointing but that can be expected for the fantastic rate.

If was my first time to The D.R. and the staff at the Occidental Caribe made my trip memorable. I loved it! The food was great and the staff was outstanding!

The resort was ery pretty and right next to the beach. Along the beach were many water activities to participate in. The drinks and food were included which was also very nice.

Occidental Caribe is hands down the worst resort I have ever stayed at. This hotel was a dump. This place is literally disgusting—the drinks are horrible, the food is horrible, and the staff/management above all are HORRIBLE. I was treated with more disrespect at this hotel during my stay than I ever have before by every other service worker I have encountered in my life combined. Jose, the boss of the place, is abrasive, insensitive, and disgusting. I will tell everyone I know to never stay at this or any Barcelo hotel again, unless you want a complete waste of all of your money. With 2 medical issues caused by the hotel in my only 5 day stay, including food poisoning and bed bugs, I was met with charges and no sympathy by the hotel management who were running the beat establishment that caused it!
