It's everything you would expect out of a 3 star all-inclusive. As long as you come with those expectations, it's not a bad hotel. I heard it's getting updated this week, for 3 months for renovations -- and those are much needed. Little things like calling the front desk and getting no answer, or not having our water bottles restocked in the room, drive me nuts. The beach is nice, the hotels were fine, the bartenders and restaurant staff were generally nice and helpful. But it took 45 minutes to check in (we had a large group). But to save some money, DR is cheaper in general, and Riu always has fun entertainment teams that occupy the kids. But having traveled a lot, and knowing what a 4 & 5 star place is like, this can't get more than 3 stars.
Good Famus brand, but highly overused hotel. I didn't expect a lot, but few things that I do like and don't: Pros: - friendly stuff - big good positioned connected hotels area - a lot of choices to eat, drink, have fun - great atmosphere - nice drinks - great ocean Cons: - overused equipment in all over in the area (you know that feeling when you don't want to seat and be, because it's old, over clean and overused almost everything: from bar to the pool/ocean chair. - overused broken bed - not working and broken AC - dirty looking overused food plates - quality and selection of food - absolutely NOT good, no taste, not recommended, after 2 days - bored and not healthy, eventually you only gonna choose to eat their good pizza to the rest of your stay. - lots of loud music - annoying friendly offering of every 5 mins of something to buy at the beach - there is nothing to see at the evening, shows are sucks.
Do not waste your money here. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. To start off the hotel room are very outdated, the beds are very uncomfortable, and the room phone did not work. We reported the room not working to the front desk so that it can fixed, they stated that the phone will get repaired that same day. We stayed at this hotel for 5 days and reported the phone not working every single day sometimes twice a day to the front desk and by the time it was time to leave the phone was still not working. The pool was dirty, the comforter and beds had a bad smell, the eating areas are not air conditioned, the beach area is dirty due to cups, cigarette buds, stuff left behind, and algae not being cleaned by the hotel staff. The worst thing about this hotel is the staff and the food. The staff is not friendly at all, they are not helpful and they seem to have a bad attitude/negative with the service they are suppose to provide. The food was horrible, we got food poisoning, the food doesn't have any flavor to it, and the plates were dirty. We even found a dead roach on a plate where the clean plates are kept. Never again will I return to this hotel/resort. I really expected more from a RIU hotel since I have visited some in Cancun but they are not the same at all. Seems like a totally different chain other then RIU. Do not book a trip here unless you want to have a bad time and experience.
I had an amazing experience recently at Riu Bambo. The staff is excellent and the service is great. The plenty different type of food is delicious. The place overall is the best. I was there for 12 days and I had the great and best vacation ever.
Beds in room uncomfortable.Could not make restaurant reservations already booked up. Only choice was buffet . Could not reserve kayak already booked. Overall disappointed with this property. Would not reccomend if don't speakSpanish .
Food is boring and the same staff every day. Everyone got food poisoned at the end. Room is clean, but a/c blows toward the bed, so you either sweat or getting cold. There are only 2 toilets for the whole resort. There are no umbrellas on the beach, only palm trees. It is not enougth for Domenican sun. Every other person had bad sun burns even with 50 factor sunblock.
This is the 4th time I have vacation in one of the Riu Hotel Resort. It is a great place, excellent restaurants the chefs always have a big smile and they try to accommodate the guest with whatever request one may have. The beach.... awesome.. lots of palms trees .. I love. This year I thought I will try a different Hotel just to see. Well, ... I will not say the name of the Hotel, but the room was dirty, the lamp on the night table did not work, the safe-deposit box did not work...the upholstery on the furniture...WOW..dark bleu and worn out that combine with black furniture imagine.. and the beach.. bear, no a tree, palm or other, not an inch of shade, no parasol nothing.. so much so that the following day I requested a transfer to the Riu. Unfortunately they had no room available, so I had to wait a couple more days, but at the end I got a beautiful vacation. Highly recommend the Riu Hotel Resort. Ooh!! thank you for the Riu hat guys, I love.
I have to change rooms twice because of hotel inefficiency. Besides attention was not the better plus the food at the different buffets were not good enough. Just one of the restaurants had air conditioning system. The rest have been hot hot and hot.
Room smells humidity. Between reception and pool smells very bad. The beach dirty.
The hotel is very nice is clean have a lot of kinds of activities for all ages we play in the swimming pool a lot of games at nights great shows free transportation to go shopping, casino and night club. I had a good time.
Great beach and great vacation, 7th trip at same resort. I will only go to the Bambu. Love the workers and the beach very safe !!
The hotel was quaint and had all the amenities one needs. The staff is what made the stay worthwhile. Beach access and pools were worthwhile. The gym equipment was super outdated and broken. Management needs to invest in new Nautilus equipment. Instructions should be provided on what other RIU Hotels allow you to access their property and enjoy the amenities. The Macau and Palace do not give you full access. Shows were ok, but need to come up with new entertainment. Maybe bring in current movies and comedy shows like cruises.
This is my first experience with Riu, and will certainly be my last. The staff made the entire group of 30 people I travel with annually feel as if we were an annoyance. Well we will not be annoying them again. I heard the Palladium was a much better experience, but I haven't been there myself.
The hotel was what we expected, good overall, good food and plenty of options, staf was very friendly and alwasy willing to help. Room was clean and bed were fine. Recommended, great price for the money. If you are going to get a tour, shop around the potions at the hotel, do not reserve in the first one..
I would spend the extra money and go someplace else. this was below average.
Wonderful staff , clean rooms and good food! Great for kids.
Very nice resort for the money. Food was great with large selection. Service friendly. Beautiful beach and pools except that pools were a little small and too many people. A lobster night would have been nice. Champagne was available in the bars but not in the restaurants. ??? Would recommend to others and will stay at other Riu's in future.
The hotel location is wonderful, but unfortunately there were a few things that need to be improved. 1. The staff in the front desk are not well informed about basic info, and many times they are not capable to answer your questions and help you efficiently. They have a very informal approach. 2. The rooms were very simple which is not a problem, but the furniture and linings have to be replaced, are way too old. 3. The food at the Mexican restaurant was terrible and the buffet needs more variety. My family and me spent six days and we ate the same food every single morning. The stuff in the Colonial dinning room were not always cordial and polite as we expected. 4. The beach area needs more shade! It is very hot .There are not enough palm trees to hide from the sun.
The staff at the hotel was so nice! The food was excellent for my taste! Our room had old furniture but we didn't mind since we only used it mainly for sleeping and showering! You can upgrade to a nicer room for more money! But this hotel has more activities than any other hotel around! Overall it's a great place!!
First of all, the hotel was not bad, we did have a good time, beach was perfect, pools were kind of small for too many people. Activities were not good, so do not even bother (archery, darts, etc..) stick with the beach activities (not that good either but better) Rooms are way too small, the mini bar was almost empty, (2 pepsi, 1 seven up and 2 beers) and they only refill every 2 days.. So imagine we were a party of 4.. I had to give a 10 dollar tip to have it filled. Beds are small and the mattress was way too soft. IMPORTANT. WIFI is only free at the lobby but only 90 minutes per day and the time counts from when you log in the first time, so if you log in the morning the time ends after 90 minutes even if you only use it 5 minutes. The pools (all of them) close at 6:00pm (sun still up). You have to make appointment for the restaurant (a la carte) at 7:00 am (the previous day) or you wont get a space.
